For reference - today 23rd January 2025 where there is a haze where I live in Siem Reap. Having just returned from a visit to Khon Kaen in Thailand, I did not see any agricultural burning (sugar cane) but there were many domestic fires/bonfires, especially in Cambodia. The recent spell of chilly weather means many rural familes light fires in the evening to keep warm, as I witnessed them on the long drive home As fog enveloped Phnom Penh today – and is forecast to do so until the end of the month – the Ministry of Environment has allayed widespread concerns about air quality...........In response to citizens’ concerns about air quality in Phnom Penh, the Ministry of Environment on the morning of January 23, 2025, deployed a mobile vehicle to monitor air quality...........stated that air pollution in Cambodia has not yet reached a level that poses a serious risk to public health.........Ministry of Environment emphasized that this level is below the red line of the emergency declaration, and in the event of continued increases, the Ministry of Environment will issue notifications to the public. https://www.khmertimeskh.com/501628314/in-pictures-ministry-states-that-current-foggy-conditions-in-phnom-penh-have-not-yet-reached-a-level-that-poses-a-serious-risk-to-public-health/ -

For reference (7 days ago) - a contributing factor?? JAKARTA, Jan 15 (Reuters) - A volcano located in Indonesia's eastern island of Halmahera erupted on Wednesday morning spewing a four-km (2.5-mile) high ash cloud, forcing authorities to raise the alert level in surrounding areas to the highest, officials said. Mount Ibu erupted at 07:11 a.m. (2211 GMT Tuesday) for around two minutes, the country's volcanology agency said in a statement. Clouds of thick grey ash billowed into the sky leaning towards the west, said Muhammad Wahid, the agency's head. https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/indonesias-mount-ibu-erupts-spewing-big-ash-cloud-2025-01-15/ -

I am not surprised. Mitrephol take note!! IMO as a type 2 insulin dependent diabetic, Thai foods and beverages are "stuffed full" with sugar. Also the availability of "junk" fried foods. The choice of low sugar and sugar free products is very limited in Thailand compared to here in Cambodia where there is a wide choice of such imported products. Maybe Thai "protectionism" prevents the import of healthier options? -

With respect, no not at all. I only visited Birkenhead once in my lifetime. However, before retiring to Thailand and now Cambodia, I lived down south in Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire. Nowadays Newport Pagnell is within the metropolitan area of Milton Keynes City and not Buckinghamshire as such. But the original post code is maintained MK16. 👍 -

I have just returned home to Siem Reap (Cambodia) from a visit to the private Ratchaphruek Hospital in Khon Kaen (January 13th to January 15th 2025). The weather was clear with sunshine, but rather chilly, with NO pollution throughout the return drive via the O'Smach border crossing and across country via Surin and Buriram to Khon Kaen. khon Kaen was refreshingly clear. This was sugarcane country and it was harvest time. I saw no evidence of burning the cane, just the cutting of the cane for loading onto trucks. -
These - very common in Thailand, especially out in the sticks! No "bum gun", just a plastic bowl, no toilet paper, no wash basin, no soap and a squat loo! Very off putting when seen in restaurants and used by customers who return to the table and then use their hands to pick ice from a bucket and put it into beers.

Most of the food and drink outlets at BKK and DMK are expensive, however at DMK, there is a halal outlet tucked away in a waiting area for gates where its sandwiches were around 80 baht compared to others at 100 - 125 baht. I have seen the staff freshly preparing them. By the way, I am not a Muslim but someone who appreciates value for money.
