  1. Sir, you have my sympathy. Elevators are now a definite "no,no" for me, ever since I lost foothold and tumbled down one in my local supermarket. Fortunately no serious injuries - just small cuts and bruises. Also a large crowd of gawping customers!
  2. A month. I hope they have plans for their personal hygiene!
  3. Poor man - so very sad. RIP and condolences to your family. Now 80, I have mobility problems and on several occasions I find myself having to struggle up flights of steps where there are no handrails (eg from street level into Malls) not only in Thailand but here in Cambodia as well. However, when it comes to flying, as a frequent flyer with Air Asia, the airline's free wheelchair service is excellent - from check-in desk to cabin door (if booked in advance with ticket).
  4. Have they also planned for toilets, showers and laundry facilities to avoid this????
  5. Amazing Thailand - picture from The Nation (3/2/24) showing first day of new numbering system. A bus arrives with the new number (B44) with the destinations pasted onto the side of the bus!! Imagine the delay in departure (especially during rush hours) whilst all the passengers try to check the list before boarding! I wonder if new timetables with amendments were also released on the same day and posted at bus stops - I bet not!!! Typical Thai bureaucracy and stupidity.
  6. Yes there is - Pattaya 2 (known locally as Pattaya song) on Ubolratana Lake near Khon Kaen in Isaan. .
  7. I am not surprised when Thai Hom Mali rice was knocked from top to fourth spot by Vietnamese and Cambodian Fragrant rice, also Indian Basmati rice. Thai rice farmers, pull your socks up and produce better quality rice!! For reference (wikipedia): In 2023, Cambodia exported more than 656,000 tons of milled rice worth $466 million, marking a three percent growth in volume and 13 percent in value compared with 2022. Revenue in the (Cambodian) Rice market amounts to US$0.42bn in 2024. The market is expected to grow annually by 6.48% (CAGR 2024-2028)
  8. If the passenger lives outside Thailand, possibly in Australia, surely it would be almost impossible for THAI to successfully sue the passenger? (unless the Thai authorities issue an Interpol Red Notice) I stopped flying with THAI many years ago when I discovered a less expensive and better direct service between London (LHR) and Bangkok with EVA Air.
  9. Please excuse any ignorance on my part, but under Thai laws regarding freehold property, surely such a large mansion would never be 100% yours unlessyou set up a company? wikipedia: Thai freehold ownership gives you indefinite ownership of a property. The two types of freehold ownership include freehold in a condo unit and freehold through a Thai company acquisition. Thai Freehold – As a foreign national, you can own properties indirectly by using a Thai Limited Company.
  10. Perhaps Ukraine where they would probably get a favourable reception for criticising Pooh-tin and his Government.
  11. As the article states, there is already a service between Bangkok and Thanaleng in Laos via Nong Khai and across the Friendship Bridge. This new service is just a short extension from Thanaleng to the main railway station in Vientiane where passengers and freight have to change from metre (narrow) gauge SRT trains to the standard gauge HST to China (or vice versa). Freight containers will have to be lifted from narrow gauge to standard gauge bogies to continue their journey. Picture shows dual gauge railway where freight is being lifted from one gauge to the other. (stock photo) It will be many years before a standard gauge HST railway becomes operational between Bangkok and China.
  12. I did by choice. I went to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Luang Prabang - the old capital city of Laos on the Mekong. A wonderful experience with such lovely scenery. (stock photo)
  13. Out of a population of 71.6 million (2021) - a drop in the ocean! Thailand's covid paranoia again. No further comment from me.
  14. I wonder if his name was "J ARTHUR????? (UK cockney slang)
  15. The very best of luck to you Sir, but I do have reservations when you are up against the minority, but powerful, anti-democratic Establishment and Military.
  16. With the greatest respect, the fire appears to be clearing the area of some of those dreadful overhead wires!
  17. Interesting comment "Move forward". This may not be so if Pita is eventually found guilty and his party is abolished, just like Thanathorn and his Future Forward party. Maybe a glimmer of hope if Bhumjaithai, the pro-military, pro-Monarchy, pro-establisment and anti true democracay party is abolished.
  18. An interesting distribution, however here in Siem Reap where I live, at 1pm on 20 January 2024 it is a lovely refreshing day with sunshine and clear blue skies with no haze/smoke pollution.
  19. It will be intereting to see after 90 days if the PM and his Government are summoned to the Chiang Mai's Administrative Court and found "guilty" for non-compliance. Will this pave the way for Anutin to become PM?
  20. So she must pull all the strings in her loan sharking!
  21. Not quite sure why these refugees are fleeing such townships, which are homes for the ethnic rebels. They are fighting the Terrorist Burmese Military (Tatmadaw) for freedom and democracy for their people. Are these Burmese refugees pro Junta supporters seeking the protection of the Thai Military?
