  1. With respect, he may then have "sleep walked" out into the street and been killed in a road accident.
  2. No Greathead Shield being used to prevent such collapses??
  3. At last, maybe "roast lamb with mint sauce" appearing on the UK ex-pat menus!! Not only in Pattaya but throughout Thailand where it is always roast beef, pork or chicken - never lamb. Frozen lamb is available in MAKRO I believe? I do know Thai people do not like lamb which is regarded as "stinky meat".
  4. Oh really - "shockwaves" what a laugh! On an island where sex tourism is a major money earner. Shockwaves:
  5. When I lived in Thailand almost 5 years ago, and being an insulin dependent Type 2 diabetic, my Thai doctor prescribed - Amlopin 5mg (2x daily, am/pm) and Angilock 50mg (one daily am). This is approved by my Khmer doctor and I continue with the same prescription.
  6. I must admit when I scanned the headlines this morning I thought I read "pirates" not "patients' - how wrong I was!
  7. Republic of Ireland (Eire) 2024: Canabbis-induced psychosis featured in five murder cases before the courts last year amid warnings more young people are becoming addicted to the increasingly potent drug. The revelation comes after Garda Commissioner Drew Harris recently warned that higher-strength cannabis is causing psychosis and long-term mental health issues. https://extra.ie/2024/04/07/news/cannabis-murder-case Get real man!!
  8. Very tragic RIP. The five Chinese were tourists from Hong Kong. In addition to the pilot and co-pilot, the other 2 Thais were cabin crew. https://uk.yahoo.com/news/9-passengers-crew-feared-dead-043829183.html
  9. Decrepit old fool - he needs to go to the Knackers Yard!
  10. With respect, how wrong you are! I now live in Cambodia and have done so for the past 4 years. I lived in Thailand for 20 years and moved across the border when Thailand's visa system became a nightmare with all the associated financial bureaucracy. I am certainly not skint (as you suggest), receiving a UK State Pension and 2 additional index linked UK Police Service Pensions. I have a nice regular income which provides me with a comfortable and hassle free life. Thailand does not provide a hassle free life - that is why I moved. I do visit Chiang Mai and Khon Kaen to visit old friends on short-break visa free holidays. IMO the Khmer people are far more friendly than the Thais. I enjoy a quiet life and I do not need sandy beaches, beer bars, prostitutes, night clubs etc. etc. - my choice! Regarding your statement above, may I suggest you put "brain into gear" before stating such rubbish! No further comment from me.
  11. Please excuse my ignorance, but I am sure there is no weekly service from Malaysia through Thailand to China! Malaysia to Bangkok (metre gauge) - yes! Bangkok to Vientiane (metre gauge) - yes! Vientiane to China (standard gauge with HST electric trains) - yes!
  12. Yes indeed. Cambodia is so easy and hassle free regarding visas and this was the main reason I left Thailand after 20 years to continue my retirement across the border in Khmer Land which is now approaching 5 years. If you are 55 years or older and want a retirement visa for whatever period, PLEASE NOTE in addition to what is quoted above, you must show your registration on Cambodia Immigration FPCS (Foreign Persons in Cambodia System). The onus is not on you but on your landlord, property owner, hotel manager etc. My annual retirement visa is due this coming October and my landlord will accompany me to show the FPCS registration on his smart phone. (I do not own one so do not have the app)
  13. For reference: January 2024 - An electric bus has caught fire in London, making it the third to burst into flames in the capital this month. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/electric-bus-london-fire-putney-capital-b2484622.html June 2024 - Three electric buses that were parked at Vastral bus depot in Ahmedabad were gutted after they caught fire early on Tuesday morning, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation officials said. No casualties or injuries have been reported. The Ahmedabad Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) buses were being charged when one of them caught fire, with the fire then spreading to two other buses parked adjacent. The buses as well as the chargers have been damaged in the fire. indianexpress.com/article/cities/ahmedabad/3-electric-buses-gutted-in-fire-at-ahmedabads-vastral-bus-depot-9413298/
  14. Welcome to your tropical paradise island holiday!!
  15. I still have memories of school dinners from when I was 11 to 18 (1955 to 1962) at UK Grammar School. Loved - treacle tart with custard, corned beef hash, sausages with mash (occasionally chips), grated cheese salad, "spag bol", tapioca pudding with jam, mutton stew and carrots and on special occasions "toad in the hole". Hated - steamed cod on Fridays (bland - no sauce and lots of bones), mashed swede (like others here on AN), wishy washy semolina and rice puddings with a spot of jam, boiled cabbage and boiled onions, squashed tin tomatoes. Whatever, I always had my own bottle of HP Sauce which I kept in my school desk. Not officially allowed but one could always smuggle it into the canteen inside my school blazer pocket.
  16. How about money in the Thai bank for visa - 800,000 to one million baht and 400,000 to 500,00 baht!

  20. She is now the Prime Minister. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, daughter of the billionaire former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, has been approved as Thailand’s next prime minister, after securing enough support from lawmakers. Paetongtarn, 37, will be the youngest prime minister to lead the country. Her appointment on Friday followed 24 hours of frantic negotiations triggered by a court ruling that ousted the former prime minister Srettha Thavisin. https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/aug/16/paetongtarn-shinawatra-thailand-pm-replacement-voting-thaksin-shinawatra
  21. Well, Thailand must keep up it's reputation of being a hub for air pollution!!
  22. Yes indeed and I certainly learnt my lesson some years ago when I purchased a new Haier (Chinese) refrigerator. After a few weeks, the freezer compartment door broke and I could not get a replacment anywhere. Gave me hassle for a couple of years before I moved to Cambodia.
  23. Especially when the wheel drops off! (January 2024) A wheel fell off a Yellow Line train and hit a taxi on Thepharak Road in Samut Prakan province at around 6.30pm Tuesday. https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/general/40034348
