Sadly, at the moment "yes". In past years, turbo prop planes flew from Chiang Mai (CNX) ) to Mae Hong Son (HGN) operated by Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways, Nok Air and Kan Air (which also flew to Pai). Currently there are no longer any flights, including to Bangkok. Perhaps the proposed new Thai regional airline M-Landarch with its Cessna fleet could offer flights along with its routes to the southern provinces. Yes, the journey by the northern or southern circular roads from CM take almost a day, whilst by air over the mountains is around 35 minutes!!

Common sense from across the border???? (from today's Khmer media 20 April 2023): "Prime Minister Hun Sen declared this yesterday afternoon that the mandatory facemask wearing and rapid COVID-19 testing at any public gathering (including hospitals) will be discontinued. Our New Year celebration was held without COVID-19 infections, therefore the Royal Government, at the request from Ministry of Health, would like to end the mandatory wearing of facemask and COVID-19 rapid test for any mass gathering,” https://www.khmertimeskh.com/501276347/cambodia-ends-mandatory-facemask-wearing-and-rapid-test-for-mass-gathering/ Personally, I (and many other people) have not worn masks for many months. Masked folk are definitely not the norm.

Hello Driver52, To save a lot of waffle from me, this informative website has all the details you require: https://movetocambodia.com/planning-your-move-to-cambodia/cambodia-visas/ Please note, on your first entry to Cambodia whether by air or land, get an ORDINARY VISA ON ENTRY. If you have an ON-LINE E or TOURIST visa, they cannot be extended as "long stay" visa. You tick the "ordinary visa" box on the application form. Once you have your ordinary visa, this can be extended to suit your requirements at any official agent (most travel shops). You do not deal with immigration itself. You may be asked to show your registration on Cambodia's FPCS (Foreigners Present in Cambodia System). The onus for registration is your landlord, hotel manager, house owner etc. NOT YOU. This is essential for a one year Retirement Visa. Take a copy of your passport before dealing with an agent as your passport is sent to the main Immigration Office in Phnom Penh and returned after 10 days with your visa.

Monks attack each other at cremation in argument over seating

Just some trifle monk-ey business no doubt! -
If you do, have an enjoyable trip. From Chumphae route 201 will take you south via Chaiyaphum to route 2 near Pak Chong. Alternatively, keep on route 12 to Khon Kaen and then south by train or car (route 2) to Bangkok. Regards.

Thai Private Sector Upbeat on China-Laos Railway Service

It will be many years before a High Speed Standard gauge line links Vientiane with Nong Khai and eventually Korat where the new High Speed Standard gauge line currently under construction from Bangkok will temporarily terminate. -
Thanks and very much so. It was the financial demands and associated bureaucracy that drove me across the border into hassle free Cambodia after 20 years of retirement up north in Thailand. I am single and have no family ties. Now been living in enjoyable retirement for 3 years in Siem Reap. For starters, no 90 day reports here and no 800,000 baht in bank scam!! I have access to all my money in a Cambodian bank account at any time. Visa application very simple.

Bert Elson, Pattaya’s British Honorary Consul, Retires
Burma Bill replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
When I lived in Thailand (Lanna), I joined the Royal British Legion in Chiang Mai and met Mister Elson on a couple of occasions when he attanded our AGMs. Originally, Chiang Mai members were recorded as Pattaya members and when it was decided by us "northerners" to form a Chiang Mai Branch this caused many "waves" with Pattaya. Mr Elson was very much a pro Pattaya resident. We eventually formed our branch with a full commitee. On 11th November 2022, the first Remembrance Day Service was held since the Covid-19 restrictions, organised by the Honorary British Consul (Chiang Mai) Mr Ben Svasti Thomson and the RBL. -
Interesting, perhaps this is why some farmers in Cambodia are now illegally growing to try exporting to Thailand (without success). April 16 2023: I have never seen media reports like this until now. This is the second recent big bust. "2 foreigners have been arrested after over 10,000 marijuana plants were discovered at a farm in in Mondulkiri Province...............During the bust, police seized and burnt 10,671 marijuana plants weighing 1205 kg............Police also destroyed large amounts of growing paraphernalia" https://www.khmertimeskh.com/501274181/in-pictures-foreigners-arrested-in-massive-marijuana-farm-bust/

I totally agree but Thailand with its Covid-19 paranoia, it will go on and on and on - Thailand the hub of Covid-19??? For reference here in Cambodia (16 April 2023): Today’s official daily new COVID case total (diagnosed by PCR test) was 0........The Kingdom recorded 0 new community and 0 new imported cases of the new variant........There are now 1 active COVID cases (diagnosed by PCR test) in The Kingdom. https://www.khmertimeskh.com/501274210/no-change-in-cambodia-covid-total-5/ -
TAT Expects Strong Summer Air Traffic This Year
Burma Bill replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The number of Russians visiting Thailand may soon be curtailed - at last!! For reference 14 April 2023: Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a new law that cracks down on draft dodging.................Lawmakers rushed the legislation through both houses of parliament this week..................new law makes it very difficult for Russians to avoid being drafted or conscripted..............system will now be supplanted by electronic notifications...........And with the new law, draftees are immediately banned from leaving the country. https://www.npr.org/2023/04/13/1169464889/russia-military-draft-ukraine-war -

The Burmese Military (Tatmadaw) is, IMO, ranked amongst the world's worst genocidal terrorist organizations and its leader General Min Aung Hlaing should be a subject of an Internationl arrest warrant like Poo-tin! -
