Clearly forum members are concerned about price reductions one forum member told MG that they could take their cyberster to where the sun doesn't shine becase they refused to provide him with a price reduction guarantee There was a news article recently where over 50+ Byd owners want Byd to buy back their vehicles due to the huge price reduction So clearly people are concerned about EV price reductions On the MG ZS it clear why MG have only reduced the price of the MG ZS as replacement model will be announced either in the December 2024 motor show or the March 2025 motor show MG ZS petrol registrations for the past 19 months January 1st 2023 to 31st July 2024 4,122 MG ZS EV registrations for the same period 2,074 Hence no price reductions on MG ZS petrol for the past 4 years

As far as I am aware the Battery prices for MG ZS EV,EP and ES haven't reduced in price much they are using a different technology to other vehicles they are using modular batteries which is made up of 6 batteries joined together The MG EP and New MG ZS EV models have modular batteries , with 1 battery pack consisting of 6 battery modules. Each module can be replaced. The price per module is 75,000 baht Therefore, if both car batteries are damaged, the advantage for users is that they can replace only the battery module, not the entire battery. While the MG 4 Electric car has a cell2pack (CTP) battery , the price will be 525,000 THB (Not include VAT) https://www.prachachat.net/motoring/news-1229139 The battery price reductions that we have seen in the media are mainly for the cell2pack which have come down in price by approx 50% You are right about to be concerned about the rate of battery improvements and it worth checking out which models have plastic battery covers and which ones have metal battery covers doing a search in the motor forum for rat or rodent will explain why

If you purchase a vehicle how much do you expect the Brand to reduce the price in a 4 year period and would you buy the vehicle knowing that the price could be reduced by nearly 50%
-
And you have the added bonus that your 2022 MG ZS EV has only reduced in price by MG B350,000 compared to B591,000 if you had bought the ZS EV in 2020
-
And you are ignoring the fact that anyone that bought a MG ZS EV in 2020 would have seen the value of their car being reduced by the Brand by a whopping B591,000 It seems you made the right choice in 2020 going with the MG ZS and not the MG ZS EV as you said yourself hard to justify extra B500,000 for ZS EV at the time https://aseannow.com/topic/1233709-electric-vehicles-of-all-kinds/#comment-16864154

Many different types of Oil used nowdays 1. Mineral Grade Mineral grade oil has a relatively short service life and cannot resist high temperatures well. The mineral base oil is obtained from the crude oil refining process by using the part at the bottom of the distillation tower to be purified through a few steps. Therefore, there are still some contaminants left and some properties are still no at their best, resulting in quick deterioration of the oil. The drain interval for cars is 5,000-7,000 kilometers or 4-6 months, whichever comes first, and 1,000-2,000 kilometers for motorcycles. 2. Synthetic Technology Grade Semi-synthetic or synthetic technology grade engine oil has a longer service life than that of mineral grade. It contains two types of base oils which are synthetic and mineral base oil (the proportions of those vary from brand to brand). The properties of semi-synthetic oil are between synthetic and mineral oil. The drain interval is at 7,000 - 10,000 kilometers or 6-9 months, whichever comes first for cars and 3,000 kilometers for motorcycles. 3. Fully Synthetic Grade This type of engine oil has the longest service life. It is produced from synthetic base oils that have undergone a number of refining and improvement processes to obtain the highest purity oil, or is an oil synthesized from a chemical process to achieve high lubricating and heat resistant power. It has low friction and evaporation rate, and can resist deterioration well. These qualities will help prevent wear with strong oil film while also improving engine performance. This grade of an engine oil has longer service life with a drain interval of approximately 15,000 kilometers or 9-12 months, whichever comes first for cars, and about 5,000 kilometers for motorcycles. https://pttlubricants.pttor.com/en/knowledge_bit_detail/3/64

Ford recommend oil change every 15,000 km or every 12 months on their rangers other brands suggest 20,000 km or every 12 months on some models looking at your original figures the ICE owner still comes out better off 51,428 X 8 = B411,424 still less than the price reduction of the MG ZS EV of B591,000 plus the extra insurance costs for 8 years and the extra insurance premium to be paid each year to top up battery cover to 100%
-
And for the MG ZS EV owners that do want to trade up the tents might take a punt on the basis that MG can't reduce the price any lower

Clearly the SMMT doesn't believe you Hence they are campaigning for VAT cut for private EV consumers For Businesses its a no-brainer Accountant tells you your liable for a huge tax bill or you can write off the entire bill by buying an EV

Electrified vehicle uptake continued to grow robustly in June, with plug-in hybrid (PHEV) volumes up 30.0% to reach a 9.3% market share, while hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) rose 27.2% to achieve 14.9% of the market. Both powertrains also outpaced battery electric vehicle growth (BEV), which rose 7.4% but took its highest monthly share this year, accounting for 19.0% of all new vehicle registrations. The UK’s zero emission transition – and the ability of manufacturers to meet the requirements of the Vehicle Emissions Trading Scheme – currently relies on the fleet sector as private consumer uptake continues to soften. Private BEV uptake has fallen -10.8% year to date, with fewer than one in five new BEVs going to private buyers. Overall, BEVs now comprise 16.6% of the new car market so far this year, slightly above the 16.1% achieved in the same period last year, with uptake behind the levels mandated by government. https://media.smmt.co.uk/june-2024-new-car-registrations/

Automotive Brands tend to price their vehicles on what they believe the local market will bear There has been a couple of Brands in Thailand that their marketing team have got their pricing wrong and have had to rejusted their pricing downwards after 2-3 months from launch mg zs ev current model in the UK starts around £30,500 or B1.37 million or today pricing if the onlly additional cost was 10% import duty you could buy 2 in Thailand pay the 10% import tax and still have B50k in your pocket price war will last while their is oversupply more vehicles built than customers wanting to buy next year will be interesting with 490,000 Thai built EV on the market if we assume 140,000 of those for the domestic market that means 350,000 for export but to where Byd Thailand and MG Thailand will be up against Byd China and MG China in pricing and I don't expect the Chinese exporters to hand over their sales to their Thai counterparts without a fight
-
I don't believe they were profiteering as it doesn't make sense for them to chip in for B77,000 under EV 3.0 and B127,000 under EV 3.5 I suspect that these cars will be EOL before EV 3.5 ends I think next year the replacement for MG ZS EV BEV will be the MG S5 https://carnewschina.com/2024/07/12/new-all-electric-mg-s5-suv-in-surprise-listing-exports-likely/ and that the MG ZS will either be renamed or carry out as hybrid only

The MG EP+ Was launched November 2020 with a price of B998,000 the price reduction only occurred as a result of the EV 3.0 subsidy that started March 2022 MG EP normal price: 988,000 baht with a state subsidy of 227,000 baht. Net price: 761,000 baht* MG EP PLUS normal price: 998,000 baht with a state subsidy of 227,000 baht. Net price 771,000 baht* so in this case MG didn't reduce the price Thai Goverment said for every car you sell we will pay you B227,000

Your thinking of trading up you have seen your dream car 0-100 km in 0.1 seconds your offered a reasonable good price for your trading in on the Friday you tell the dealer that your think about it over the weekend and let them know Monday lunchtime Monday morning your trade-in brand announces a B400,000 price reduction Will the dealer still agree to Friday deal knowing that if they do there going to take a serious hit or are they more likely to say Friday trade-in offer has ended and then offer you a new trade-in taking into account the B400,000 price reduction Likewise you see your dream car on a friday but it only available in a colour that your 50/50 over the dream car is priced at B1.7 million baht you place a deposit of B5,000 over the weekend shock and horror the brand reduces the price by B400,000 you go into the dealer on Monday that your order should have the price reduction to it dealer says sorry can't do your order has been placed in the system and nothing they can do Would you keep your existing order or would you cancel even if you lose your deposit of B5,000 if you cancel and you lose your deposit your still be B395,000 better off

here is a good example why ICE hold their value better than EV 2020 MG ZS petrol 37,000km sold November 2022 B400,000 On one2car there are 45 Petrol 2020 MG ZS price ranging from B285K to B459K with 32 of the 45 listings priced at B364K or higher indicating that the MG ZS petrol hasn't depreciated much in the past 2 years when you compare to 2022 MG ZS EV Model D MG ZS EV (D) Normal price: 1,189,000 baht with additional state's subsidy of 240,000 baht Net price: 949,000 baht* One2one has 16 listings for MG ZS EV ranging from 2021 model B369K to B628K for a 2021 model On the MG ZS EV facebook group their talking about between B300-B400K for used MG ZS they didn't state which year but assume 2024 EV with the recent price reduction to B599K That is a whopping price reduction of 36.8% over a period of 20 months

According to the SCB EIC report, which assessed the total cost of using a passenger car for 10 years, it was found that: - Gasoline vehicles (ICE) have an average cost of 456,976 baht/10 years. - Hybrid vehicles (HEV/PHEV) have an average cost of 426,868 baht/10 years. - Pure electric vehicles (BEV) have an average cost of 386,166 baht/10 years. The residual value of pure electric and hybrid vehicles tends to decrease by almost 50% from the selling price after only 1 year of use. The residual value of electric cars tends to decrease rapidly, with depreciation of up to 50% after just one year of use, while gasoline-powered cars can retain their value in the first year of use at 67% of the new price. Part of the reason why EVs have depreciated so much is due to their continuously declining resale prices, as well as concerns from the business sector about EVs in the used car market. https://workpointtoday.com/thailand-vehicle-passenger-market/#:~:text

when you buy any vehicle as soon as you take it out of the showroom it loses a % of its value when Brands decided to reduced the price of their vehicles due to either oversupply or lack of interest by the end buyer that price reduction increases the depreciation of the vehicle that someone purchased at a higher price How many people on this forum that purchased a MG ZS EV in 2021 when it was priced at B1.19 million baht would be happy to see the priced reduced to B599,000 price reduction of 49.6% -

Clearly EV Depreciation is a Major issue in Thailand as you told MG that you wanted a 12 months price protection in writing or they can stick their Cyberster where the sun doesn't shine https://aseannow.com/topic/1310792-byd-seal-tips-tricks-and-help/page/36/#comment-19060935 If EV Depreciation is a non-issue in Thailand no need for a 12 month price protection agreeement -
It must be secret or you would have posted what are the terms and conditions of the warranty and MG definition of lifetime what is lifetime or did they ask you to sign a NDA
-
It seems no-one on this forum knows what MG definition of lifetime is as far as I know no other EV manufacturer has offered a lifetime warranty and specified their definition of lifetime and what conditions are required to qualify for such warranty Between 2024-2032 in China Cumulative insurance registrations of NEVs with eight-year warranties have amounted to 19.41 million units over the past eight years, but starting this year, their warranties will begin to expire, he said. https://cnevpost.com/2024/03/17/nio-william-li-urges-more-focus-on-battery-life/
