  1. Thanks for sharing this here. I have an appointment on the 26th. Since I'm going to be home for 3 months after that, thought prudent to make an appointment just in case current policy changes. Glad I did. This next extension was probably going to be my last one anyway. I'm a bit sad that the U.S. embassy is even "evaluating" but perhaps there will some other type of statement. Hopefully, if there are changes they will give some notice.
Evaluating does not sound good when others eg oz and Germany have made proactive announcements they won't be changing anything.

So now USA citizens will walk on egg shells for a few months

The BE is saying, understandably, that it cannot verify the sources of income. It never has done in the past, nor has any other embassy. I'm sure more information will be forthcoming. Either other embassies will have to change their policies, or the British Embassy will have to explain why it is the only embassy being required to verify. I think there has been too much of an outcry about this for them to simply ignore it.
They are not required to verify! They chose it! Maybe they felt like they were doing the right thing but found themselves liable in the end and Said screw you we are done
  3. Facebook is free to use but has given Zuckerberg massive wealth and influence. I would expect he is expanding the property rental service to expand his wealth and influence. More users and charges to the people renting out property through his portal.
There are many reasons why Thailand may have been chosen to roll this out in Asia. I doubt it being the best place in SE Asia to rent out a property is the main factor.

What makes you angry about success? If probably one of the most successful guys on the planet [emoji290] points to Thailand and says this is where I'm launching my home stay service then you better believe he did his home work.

  4. I doubt they will offer anything different to the current and numerous online booking sites.
I won't be using it as I think Zuckerberg already has too much money and influence.
Huh? It's free! You need glasses or what?

"Facebook has chosen Thailand as the first country in the Asia-Pacific to launch its new Property for Rent service."

Shows us where the best place in South East Asia is to rent out a property!
  5. I think that it's much safer to assume that it has nothing whatsoever to do with satisfying Thai authorities.

The British Embassy does more than most to verify the stated income, so why would only they be targeted?

They have publicly lied about other aspects of the situation, safe to assume that they have lied about their motive for withdrawing the letters.
We can only go by the information presented so far. They will be in deep sh$t if they lied.
  6. What possible court proceedings involving an expat or embassy could take place with regards to an income letter? Can you name a single case of litigation against an embassy over an income letter? It's just a stupid excuse IMO. If immigration decided not to accept an income letter for whatever reason, they would merely cancel the extension application and give the expat marching orders - case closed. They wouldn't even bother to contact the embassy. Thai immigration has all the power to do as they please.

You have no idea what triggered the brit embassy letter shutdown. All any of us can assume it's related their statement about satisfying the thai authorities

The legality of the income letter "waver" was just a by product of the discussions here on TV

Try to keep up. Nobody said it was the sole reason

  7. I’ve received a lot more responses from them because I’m getting really assertive but polite at the same time with them.  So far it looks like literally every other embassy is business as usual and providing the proof of income affidavits EXCEPT for the British Embassy.  The US Embassy nothing has changed regardless of the BS statement the British Embassy made the German Embassy and every other Embassy is still providing the service except for the British Embassy.  Sounds like the British Embassy is just lazy because they don’t want to full fill the requirement that’s always been in place, the only difference is that immigration is now actually enforcing the rule that embassies must verify our income which I have no problem with because I know that my monthly income requirement is way above the minimum for my marriage visa.  Even for a retirement visa my income is still more than double the minimum monthly requirement.  I go by the monthly income requirement because it’s no ones business how much money I have saved and I prefer to use my United States bank, I don’t want to use a local bank but if I’m forced to I will.  I can put 40 or 50 thousand Baht in a Thai bank just to show the minimum monthly income and then print a bank statement and then just withdraw my money back after I print the bank statement.  It would be a hassle but I could do it.  I have savings in the states and I receive my monthly pension payments.
It's already been mentioned a number of times. The British embassy is one of the few or perhaps the only one that provides a letter after verification of income which makes them liable

Most of the others use a different system which requires the applicant to write their own letter and the embassy just witnesses the signature. Zero liability

  8. As I've already explained, for the BE producing income letters is zero sum. Are your cremations zero sum?
According to an accountant stopping the letters would not make any hole in the income stream.

Whether other embassys follow suit is the acid test as to whether the BE were BSing everyone about the meeting with Immigration earlier in the year.
The USA and oz do zero work. Literally 5 second scan followed by rubber stamp.

How much work did the British embassy do? Sounds like a bit and maybe it was to time consuming

  9. The British Embassy did more than most other embassys to verify income, so why has no other embassy been affected by this? They have publicly lied twice over this issue. I believe that the "verification vs certification" issue is a smokescreen, to hide the real motive which is cost cutting. Move to smaller accommodation, cut down on staff salaries and office accommodation by cutting a net zero service. An accountants dream.
That's the irony of the situation. By being so involved they put themselves at risk.

The others like oz and USA provide zero involvement with proving anything so there is no comeback

You would think under that system they would leave the brits alone but TIT assuming they did in fact pressure them but no proof of that either
