I’ve had plenty of overstays over the years. It’s more convenient to live life on my schedule than theirs.

It’s just money, and having money buys convenience. It’s the same reason I use an agent when I start a new visa or am supposed to go to immigration. I can’t be bothered with those knuckle heads or standing in line so I pay someone to handle it for me. Overstay is the same for me, I leave when I want to leave, not when they say I have to.

In case you’re wondering, I’ve never stayed more than a month overstay. Never had a problem, just paid the fine. Much easier than wasting time to get an extension or flying out on days you don’t want to or can’t fly on.

i used to tell friends not to worry about a few days overstay and years ago, long before the bans came in i used to overstay regular, sometimes up to a a fortnight and just pay on the way out. reasons? usually just couldn't be bothered and had no worries in paying the fine on the way out.

i wouldn't recommend anyone overstays for even a day anymore if they can avoid it. wouldn't want to have to visit a friend in idc and know they were going to get blacklisted because i said all will be well.

"but mark, you said it would be ok"

ahhh shit, i said it should be ok! you need some bottled water or something?

Earliest flight into Saigon arrives after 9am. Depends if fella is visa exempt to Vietnam. Even if visa exempt. (Many countries are) will still be pressed to make cut off for application by 11.30am. Pick up next day is after 2ish. Again pressure for last flight to bkk. Quote op..  "he is an older lad"

best mate does it all the time and i have been with him a couple of times to have a night out, never been late to put docs in. only takes about 20 minutes by taxi to the consulate

next day pick up he gets the flight around 6/7pm and has to wait around for a few hours at the airport and there are later flights than that.

he is an older lad so will appreciate the fact he can take a taxi straight there and straight to the airport for peanuts

and if the flight was delayed and there was a huge road crash just the morning he needs to put the docs in he could stay an extra night but i would put good money on if the guy reported back that it went just as i posted

I can't imagine he needed the money. I've just made a couple of brief visits to Bangkok and found it almost impossible to get a taxi to take me along Sukhumvit. Both times, something like 8-10 drivers refused, one wanted 200 to go from Nana to Asok and another 400 to go from Asok to Nana. When so many can't be bothered to take paying passengers I can draw only one conclusion - they are so well off they don't need the money. Yet they complain they are poor. Perhaps someone can explain to them that if they take passengers in their taxi then those passengers will pay them. It doesn't appear to have occurred to them.

And before anyone comments on why I wanted to take taxis in that area when I could have walked or used the Skytrain, I had my reasons.

took a lady boy back from nana but didn't want too many people to see? ???? ????????

Thanks for all of the replies.

He can also fly BKK to Savannakhet via Pakse. Its a little more expensive but less hastle than getting to Savan from Vientiane.

I will leave the travel up to him but again advise flying.

I have heard of HCMC doing these visas. Hes an older lad that has been Savan before so will probably use this option. He also knows that no funds are required in Savannakhet. Im not sure about HCMC.

    Cheers.

just let him know, funds aren't required in hcmc. by taking the earliest flight from bangkok he can get to the consulate in hcmc in good time, it's pretty close to the airport. pick up the visa the next day and fly out that evening. would be a lot less hassle for him than going to laos but i understand what you mean about familiarity.

requirements in hcmc are the same as savannaket except he would just need a hand written letter from spouse requesting the visa, no financials required. au lac hotel is good value and an easy walk to/from the consulate

<deleted>. Some folk don't know AirAsia now fly DM to Vientiane. In fact that service not really that old. Since op friend was advised to fly out re overstay, I thought I would add minor added info. Tell me what did you add apart from jab from your keyboard. Grow up.

    ok then, i'll add this.

his friend wants a multiple entry non o in which case it may be easier for his mate to fly direct to hcmc to get it rather than go to vientiane and then have to make his way all the way over to savannaket.

hcmc can be done with a one night stay (and depending on nationality may not need a visa)

With your attitude, you will never see the big picture. It is this very attitude of yours that people everywhere despises. No, you will never understand it.

Long time ago someone said... "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing."

still waiting or are you struggling a little?

Prayut claims to have resigned from the army. Why do I see him at various events all dressed up in a soldier suit medals and all?

normal for ex military to wear their military dress at events after they have left the forces, especially officers.

i wouldn't count the generals here as real officers by the way, just answering your post

Just buy Phillip Morris.  Job done.

Or buy government.... oh wait, that's a nest of rats right there.  Rat poison will be made illegal, but at whose expense [/rhetorical]

can't just buy philip morris. can buy their cigarettes but the IQOS is still illegal in thailand.

Philip Morris, the largest tobacco company in the world, says it will be going smoke free in the future.

    Less than 30 days alternately.

The problem is also that I am in an online bank so difficult to have the bank proof that he asks. Otherwise I will have taken the visa 6 months.

visa exempts should be fine. if you have lots of previous stamps which i assume you have due to being denied entry at cambodia last year (i think that's what you meant?) then having a clean passport would probably be better. make sure you carry the cash required and have onward flight etc just in case.

avoid female IO's counters at airport immigration control, they have a reputation for being, let's say thorough

  11. depends how long you are planning on staying. keep the work to yourself regardless.

the fact you had problems last year doesn't look too good. get a new passport before you come back (some thinks that helps if you have history) would be better to have a visa rather than using exempt and make sure all the requirements are met.

if doing exempt only 2 via land per year, by air no limit but not a good option as the airport IO's are known to pick up on those using them for more than tourism which by the sound of it, you would be.

don't forget you can extend each entry by 30 days at local immigration

  12. no chance of getting RC from bangkok on a tourist visa. depends on which office you use but my friend who has a years property contract and is married on a 1 year non immigrant multiple entry visa went to CW in january. they would not supply him RC. they will only issue a RC if on an extension of stay and they want to see a 90 day report has been done.

he also went in order to get a driving licence (and to open a bank account), CW told him he doesn't need a thai licence as he doesn't stay in the country for more than 90 days at a time and told him he can use his home licence, (what the insurers etc think of that i don't know).

I am not sure how long it has been like that but if those are Bangkoks rules I would imagine others may follow suit in due course.

BTW he ended up getting a letter from his home embassy at a cost and used that for both the licence and opening an account with no problems
