If your land transport office does not have a Police dept you will get away with it. The main one at Chatuchak does have Police and you will get fined. -
Just done it. 60 days on arrival to Non O, was first extended to 3 months. Then had to apply and pay again for the 1 year extension. Four visits later, 12 months Non O retirement visa now obtained. According to the IO we are not supposed to do this, she said it should be obtained before leaving your own country. I did suggest that all this could have been done in one visit but this fell on deaf ears. Note:- There are advertisements at CW advising you to do the TM30 online. However, when you get there they also require it on paper. Biggest waste of time and paper ever.

There is no hope for us when the farang needs instruction on how to use a bum gun -
Long ago one used to have to obtain a tax clearance certificate to leave the country. At the tax office they once assessed me as owing 30,000 Baht. Figures all conjured up in their greedy imagination. I refused to pay and left the country. On the train I encountered the IO who asked where my tax clearance certificate was. He fined me 500 Baht, thereby saving 29,500. Amazing Thailand.

Like I said, if it goes that way it is time to leave. In my experience it is best to do nothing, wait n see what the Thais do, as often these stupid ideas never come to fruition. Furthermore, if they think they are going to tax my UK pension they are going to get told to shove it where the sun don't shine.

CW office. I asked and was told those are the rules and if I did not like it she could cancel my visa. Ask three IO's and you will get three different answers. They interpret the rules on their whim and mood that day. Every time I visit Immigration they want something different. Four visits to get one visa..... I suggested to her it could be done in one visit thereby saving them paperwork and wasted time; - this fell on deal ears.... what is wrong with these people?

In my experience at 160 km/h it can be fatal..... The bugs head goes clean through his own arse.

If he goes to Immigration with his 60 day on arrival visa and applies for Retirement Non O, they will extend 30 days while under consideration. But need to show 800K in bank or use an agent. I have done it for years without an agent, but this time IO said I should not be able to convert 60 day to Retirement. Took me four visits to immigration to get it. This paper chase is the biggest waste of time and has never improved. What you encounter also depends on the whim of the individual IO.

Visa when ill

Not so sure of the answers so far..... having seen a very sick Farang brought to Immigration in an ambulance and wheeled in on a gurney by a couple of nurses. What is wrong with Immigration that this was necessary? -
It does not help that construction here is single wall, not double wall with a cavity filled with sound insulation as found where most of us Farang come from. Yet the Thais want ever escalating sums for these poorly constructed buildings. It pisses me off that we are not considered worthy of being allowed to own land on which to have a private house and some peace and quiet. Yep, they only want our money, they don't want us.

Having already applied for my retirement visa, it only remains for me to go back for the result and get the passport stamped. However, I have since broken my leg, so do not want to try going to Immigration in this condition. I have a medical certificate from the hospital. Can I have my friend go to Immigration on my behalf to get the passport stamped? Do we need a power of attorney? Thanks to all for assistance.
