  1. Chinese cars depreciate alarmingly. Up to 50% in the first year. Saw a BYD Seal advertised on Facebook Marketplace for 995K, don't know which version it was. I would guess the trade in value of one to be around 800K. It looks a bargain until you have to buy a new battery at around 7 years old. Check cost of battery!
  2. This is Thailand! Image vs substance. Thais like to wash the engine, its all about image. But water gets into the electrics and its hard to dry them out so it will start. More important is that the INSIDE of the engine is clean with new filter and quality oil. Meanwhile, the Dynamo shops (Alternator to us) are doing a roaring trade replacing Alternators that got wet inside.
  3. I think it dates from prehistoric times, when the girl went for the roughest cave man she could find to defend her from Dinosaurs, Saber Toothed Tigers and other cave men. ...... Nothing much has changed. Today's girl though, tends to go for credit cards, a condo and a car.
  4. And how is it you would know this?
  5. Judging by the comments from Lady Roadrunner, my middle leg is the problem. Can't stand at all.
  6. And it costs nothing. Some banks will want proof of address, most want just a passport. If you visit three branches of the same bank you will get three different answers. Some will not give a farang an account, just try another one. Amazing Thailand. SCB is the best bank.
  7. You dialed 1178 and they actually picked up the phone!
  8. Make sure they use CVT oil, some don't know and put ATF in there
  9. Is the Thai branch related to the original online Zenni USA or did the Thais just copy the name? (Zenni USA manufacture in China by the way).
  10. They even wanted to see my rental contract, they photo copied that and the receipt showing I had paid my rent! All we need now is for the Thai Revenue Dept to link tax with Visa. Roadrunner will do a runner before he pays their tax. I do not see what right Thai Revenue has to tax a foreign pension.
  11. No telling what they will ask for. I have been here since 1981 and this was the first time they asked for a TM30. Welcome to the land of chaos and corruption. On the plus side, when I went back with TM30 the next day, I went direct to the IO as told and she had me in and out in 10 minutes. A new world record for a short time?!
  12. She also gave me a paper which says they further require. 1. Copy of the apartment owners ID, certified as a true copy. 2. Copy of house registration. So I get back to my apartment to find the owner is away. The above papers not available. Now what? I did manage to get a TM30 from the receptionist and a letter of explanation. I have finally had enough of this and other <deleted> from Immigration. Anyone know where I can find the chief of Immigration?
  13. At Chaengwattana today they asked for the TM30. I told them the apartment I stay in already registered me with Immigration online (this has always worked before). The Immigration officer said their computer was down and she wanted TM30 as paper. Then she said it was a new rule (seems like every time I go to Immigration there is some new rule). So be aware, you may need to submit the stupid thing in paper format. Experience has taught me every Immigration officer has a different take on the regulations. This being Thailand, anything is possible. This is why I never leave it till the last day.
  14. Ah there it is:- You should apply for non O with 15+ days remaining on your permission of stay. I assume this is so for Chaengwattana office? Thanks to all. Roadrunner
  15. Thanks but I think you have entirely misread my question.
  16. I got the 60 day Visa Exemption on arrival. Now wish to convert to retirement Visa. QUESTION: Is there a minimum number of days that must still remain on my 60 day Visa when I apply for Retirement? I think you used to have either a minimum of 15 or 21 days left?
  17. Post Office Air Mail works best. Usually minimal duty, sometimes comes through without duty.
  18. In Thailand anything is possible if you have the right connections. But a blue book will cost you a lot more than a coffee!
  19. Sure, having lots of Russians, some of whom are mafia, makes Phuket a nicer place to live. All because the Thais worship their great God; Baht.
  20. LPG may appear cheaper up front, but not so cheap when it has damaged your valves.
  21. I suspect the age of vehicle cut off point will be just beyond the age of that Aston Martin.
  22. How nice, a new friend and strategic partner. And since Thais can buy property (with land) in the uk, will they be reciprocating? And how about making it easier to take your Thai wife back home to your own country? Cameron is clueless, he could have achieved so much more here.
  23. Like all Thai ideas, they have not thought it out that well yet! The hope is there will be clarification forthcoming, not just the usual chaos and corruption. Anyone having more information is invited to post.
