Fortunately existing petrol and diesel cars will go on for 10 or 20 years

How do you know this? It is getting difficult already, with only Caltex and PTT supplying the Benzine 95 that my car needs. Most manufacturers will stop making petrol / diesel cars by 2030. Some have stopped already.

  2. It takes too long to charge. Imagine the queues at charging stations. Not viable until they get the charging times down.

And what is your ev car's residual value at age 8 years when the expensive battery needs replacing.

I wish they would make an ice that runs on Hydrogen instead.

  3. In Thailand all is often not as it appears.

The girl may have a reason for being upset as the farang refused to take the candy. You have to realise that the gang she works for will not let her go home untill the candy is all gone. She wants rid of it so she can go home.

The reverse can also happen. I met a girl selling Kanom (cakes) and offered to buy the lot! She replied, "if you buy all, then I will have nothing left to sell."

Inverse Thai logic. It does your head in to think about it.

    Amazing Thailand.

  4. Looking for a professional car paint spray shop in Bkk.

Roadrunner is ex UK motor trade and has spray painted cars before. I despair what I see in Thai bodyshops.

Main problem with Thais is their habit of covering whole panels in filler (also known in the motor trade as pudding). They then wet sand it, the filler absorbs the water. They then paint on top and wonder why it cracks and blisters when the filler dries out. Duh, it hurts my bird brain.

Dry sanding takes longer and is a real pain to do, but it is the correct way and achieves lasting results.

Anyone know a professional paint shop in Bkk? Or maybe a spray booth / workshop I could use to do it myself?

  5. Typical cost to paint one panel is 3000 Bt. The whole car including door shuts etc 40,000 Bt.

Depends who does it and if they remove windows so you don't see the overspray around the window rubbers.

The additional facet is your shape: IF you are of a standard physique there are plenty of good ‘off the rack suits’ which will fit you

You have obviously never had to outfit a Roadrunner!

  7. Considering that oil costs a lot less than a new transmission, I always change mine more frequently than recommended. Use the correct specification oil. Beware of some unscrupulous gas stations that use cheap poor quality oil. Check it comes in the manufacturer's bottle and not out of some unmarked oil drum round the back of the garage. Safest bet is to use the franchised dealer.

Fully vaccinated is not defined on the Thailand Pass site.

It only asks for 2 vaccinations with the most recent one no less than 2 weeks before the date of entry.

This from the FAQ's for it. https://consular.mfa.go.th/th/content/thailand-pass-faqs-2

So if one has not been vaccinated within the last two weeks, you either need another shot or a RT PCR Covid test? I also take it that other types of Covid test are not accepted?

When do the Thailand Pass application you will not need a corvid 19 test if you are fully vaccinated. The LA site apparently forgot to mention that when they updated their site.

You do need to check with airline you will be traveling on to confirm they do not require a corvid 19 test to board your flight. Some may only require a antigen test.

Hi Ubon Joe, what do you call "fully vaccinated?"

Is two jabs of vaccine sufficient or is an additional booster shot required?

  10. This being Thailand, what you will get at the LTO varies considerably. I have registered a car with colour change at the infamous Chatuchak LTO (forego all hope ye who enter here). They sent me to their Police office, but the officer on duty wasn't interested.

Suggest you take photos of car before and after paint and keep a receipt from the paint shop.

As for changing colour. Doing it properly requires stripping the whole car. Engine out, glass out, doors off (as you will have to paint the door shuts). Hell of a job. The average Thai paint shop might charge 40,000 Baht. With a black car you can get away without doing the engine bay.

I would leave it as original colour if I were you. Colour change can detract from value.

  11. After looking at your photos. Cause of failure was oil starvation due to old oil being thick like sludge, which blocked oilways causing the engine equivalent of a heart attack. Needs total rebuild with ALL new bearings and new crank if old one is beyond machining. New exchange engine is another way.

This is what happens when you don't change the oil and filter regularly.
