I was paying 65000 bhat for a 2 bed brand new room on sukumvit 5 mins walk to the sky train that was 8 years ago I build a house on a one rai  6 years ago cost me 10 million bhat all up every thing eg fully fenced  driveways lawns 15 mins from private hospital and central. Quite safe nice veiws. So 10 million divided by 65k = 153 months = 12.75 years so I am half way there to paying it off if I stayed in the same room in bangkok with out the polution. It is a win win for me

Plus if you needed to sell quick you could take a hit and make it up with the currency conversion

western banks and brokerage firms instead of demanding them to deposit their money in their third world banking system.

Because western banks have done amazing things with your currency? The smart ones put there money in these "3rd world" banks years ago and are killing it on exchange rate. Immigration by default is doing everyone a favour as the baht continues to soar

If anyone has a recommendation for someone to do bathrooms in Bangkok please PM me. Up to now I’ve had 5 people come to measure and quote. Three never contacted me again, one quoted me enough to build 2 houses and another quoted for doing the whole job and then decided to also charge for the workers! He couldn’t understand why I didn’t want to pay twice!

Is it a condo? try Juristic. We have a great team of long term maintenance guys (its a huge condo block) at more than reasonable pricing that can do all jobs including tiling

Why would you tip a trolley pusher?

You must be looking to throw money at people, surely?

My wife and I happened to go to HomePro today and bought some kitchen appliances. The staff put them onto the heavy-duty trolley for us, then followed us to the car and loaded them into the car as well.

After they'd done that, we said thanks to the staff for their help and they went off without any tip.

That was my wife's doing, because you don't expect a tip for that, and neither do the staff, unless they spot a gullible ferang who want to pay them extra just for doing their job.

They are just doing their job, nothing at all to do with being tight-fisted.

Dont agree. Its not just about doing their job but doing it for absolute minimum wage. Sometimes when I buy from home pro and its a no carry item the staff will take it down to street level and stay doing their best to flag down a taxi.

When I order tesco online they will send out just one person with a ridiculous amount of heavy bags at minimum wage.

Absolutely 20 baht for the above. Its bugger all, but some unbeleivabley tight arsed farang or Im starting to think the real reason is due to tough times. mr big bwana on a pension and with a family to support simply cant really afford it

Use the square box type plastic section thats used for air-con outlets, that can then be colored as required or left cream.

Is that likely to be at home pro? I have ducted AC

All of the DIY shops (HomePro, Thai Watsadu, Home Mart, etc.) carry an assortment of PVC surface mount wire channels with adhesive backing. All you would need is a hacksaw.

The problem will be relaying that info to the Thai staff. Anyone have a pic I could show them?

  7. I want to wall mount my TV.  The TV will be positioned directly over a wall power outlet so no need to worry about that however I will be running wires up from a set top box and sound bar

There are kits available in the west or hollowed out plastic strips etc but I see nothing here. Im in Bangkok and I could source anything that might do the job from home pro

    Any ideas?

  8. Just MY experience.   About 10 years ago was not feeling well.  Thought what the hell, try an antidepressant that the doctor said could help.  Did not like the way i felt ( not "uplifted" like I thought might be).  Just kinda weird.  Took for one month and stopped.  Felt much better !  Took more than a month after stopping before i did not get dizzy when lying down.  (withdrawal ! )

Uplifting is what beer is for. Antidepressants creep up on you until about 6 months it dawns on you that you no longer worry about the small stuff
  9. Europeans , canadians and ozzies need to start planning for the worst especially those supporting families on the pension alone. The days of currency wild fluctuations are long gone and the steady years long down trend of foreign currency against the THB  is disturbing and very real and indicates the new norm for the next 10 years IMO unless some type of catastrophic event changes things.
