  1. A Russian ex-pat who was living in Sri Lanka has fled the country after attempting to organise a 'white party' event, which was met with huge backlash, branding it 'racist' and 'disgusting'.

The advertisement for the party specified a white dress code for guests, but also had a line that read: 'Face control: White,' which was largely understood to mean only white people could attend.

After the advertisement circulated online, the party that was due to be held at Sarayka Lounge in the southern coastal town of Unawatuna, was urgently cancelled.

A mama-san in Pattaya told me that Russians were cheap and wouldn't pay bar prices for alcohol and so bought their booze at 7/11 and then drank on the beach or at home. I think if they drank in bars you wouldn't hear the noise.

I was sat in a pub one evening in Patong having a beer alone, some Russians who were sat outside came in and bought a bottle od Sang Som, 1500 baht they got charged they paid no argument, I was thinking to myself at the time if they saw the price in 7/11, could have bought 5 bottles.

  3. They are making their own rules from what I can see, An old guy I bump into occasionally he must live in one of the soi's near me, he has been asking for advice recently, he has a 2 bedroom pool villa for rent, he has rented it out to 4 Russians I think he lives next door and he was telling me now there is 12 people there, partying every night and having sex around the pool, very noisy and now the neighbours are kicking off, he's asking me what can he do, he said he has called the agent who is supposed to look after the place and they are not interested, I think it's time to call the police before one of your neighbours does. the other thing he said was they are coming and going all night long on their bikes,

  4. WHAT I will eat today,

    Delicious Moo Hong

Moo Hong is a traditional Phuket delicacy, tracing its roots to Hokkien immigrants from Fujian, China. This southern Thai dish combines the warmth of black pepper with rich ingredients like coconut sugar and fatty pork, offering a harmonious blend of sweetness, richness, and spice.

Agree - the tap & go on with the card is very efficient.

But there will still be people taking out their wallet only after they’ve been told the amount.
The same characters are slow with cash too….

….. perhaps even slower with promptpay.

Back fifteen years, my foster son came back from school and said his English teacher said you pronounced giraffe, giraffee because it has an e on the end. When he politely said it's giraffe she told him not to argue with her. He came second in a National English speaking contest and even now is called upon by his Thai international company to do their presentations for them. Perhaps his teacher should have listened to him. Until the Thai education system is elevated from marching, haircuts and dictatorial teaching, and encourages imaginative and lateral thinking, not much will change. But then it's not my country.

I remember some years ago a friend of ours asking could she come around with her daughter because she had been given some English home work from a Thai teacher, her own father was no good he was Dutch and didn't speak good English, The homework you could tell it had not been written by a English speaker, I cant remember exactly what was written but none of it made sense, I did my best for her and explained to her that these questions are not right and we wouldn't ask the question like that, Another problem was the daughters English was also not good.
