I would agree, living a Western lifestyle is not cheap. I guess this is why so many mongers live in a 38 meter room and drive Honda Wave 125 motorcycles.
38 sqm is not small if you are a single guy here for a few months, 25 sqm thats small

Reporting these <deleted>wits as Foreigners is a form of media driven racism.
It leaves any Thai reading the article to believe that all Farang are bad.
So why not identify their origin rather than just call them foreigners?
They were INDIAN except for 1 RUSSIAN
If the facts are reported correctly right from get go it avoids false conclusions
And a Ukrainian woman somewhere in the mix

Owners and long term renters, and every other person - from the cleaner to the security guards, are getting pissed off with certain Airbnb customers in condos, doors slamming at 3am and Chinese thinking the corridor is great place to chat at all hours of the morning as just examples, I wouldn't bet that those signs don't start getting enforced more strongly now covid is firmly dead and buried. Airbnb know the rules but still allow people to list condos for as little as 1 night.
1 night stays is part of the problem, absentee landlords is another, the absentee landlords expecting the condo staff to give out keys when they are not being paid to do that, a condo maybe for 2 and 10 turn up, just no control, chaos!

I thought you had to have the owners written agreement to be able to sublet ?? I know a friend of mine did as he was going home to France for a few months. The owner agreed as he was a long time renter , but he was then responsible for replacing everything that could ever be broken, gone wrong, during his absence. I would never do that myself, imagine someone wrecked the place etc !
It doesn't have to be Airbnb to get places trashed or things stolen but any owner should have insurance,

As far as I know it is illegal in Thailand to rent out any condominium, even your own, for less than one month at a time.
If you do that you might get away with it, but it seems more and more condominium owners and committees fine people who do that.
Many condo blocks did not allow Airbnb you may even see signs at the entrance "No Airbnb" but it still goes on,

Doing sublets is usually illegal, airbnb is illegal, doing any of the work like meet and greet, cleaning etc is illegal.
But besides that you are good to go.
Sorry Airbnb is not illegal, the illegal bit is STR anything less than 30 days which is on the owner of the unit

Part of the problem for Thailand is the Chinese tourists that are coming here at the moment are more of the younger independent travellers as opposed to the perhaps older generation tour groups. The youngsters are tech savvy, so while the Thai govt has teamed up with several large Chinese media corporations to try and control / (sugar coat ?) the narrative, I doubt it's going to stop the reality of people's holiday experiences getting out there via other social media channels.
Judging by the Chinese arrival numbers to Oct 22nd mentioned the other day they must be seriously worried that their easing of visa restrictions is having little to no impact so far in the lead up to a crucial few months.
I know of one flight that was cancelled Friday evening from Shanghai to Phuket somebody I know was booked on it, the reason I don't know yet, if they will get here today im not sure,

This is only half the story, no mention here about the 20 cars and the mini zoo and a Ukrainian woman arrested,

My experience with Chinese they are well aware of all the scams and double pricing in Thailand, we farang complain but it gets worse for Chinese, most of the ones I have met prefer to travel alone and stay away from the tour groups,
