People are advised to stay indoors apart from going to the supermarket, pharmacy or carrying out some other essential business such as banking or immigration and that social distancing should be practiced at all times.
I stay now indoors 99% of the time. But it's impossible to keep social distance especially if we have to go to the immigration.
I have no car so normally I have to take the minivan and motorbike taxi to drive one hour to the immigration. Last time, on the way to the immigration I counted the people which are in close contact me in the minivan. (around 30 people going in and out ONE way. ) One woman was in front sneezing and coughing. At the immigration there wasn't so much people but again we still have contact with some. So I'm ok with social distancing and to stay indoors but Im guess many people do it with the minivan, the only solution I see is to take private taxi and hope that the immigration center is not full, because it's kind of useless if you stay indoors for 3 Month and then you come with around 50- 100people on one day in contact.
And how often do you go to "the immigration"?

If we could know the motivations of the governor ....
And why foreigners and not Thai people? If we could have read the next paragraph perhaps he would have told us!

See how easy that was?

After all these years you still need to ask?
Not really, it was primarily a rhetorical question.

So he's ignorant because he does not want to be tracked for no good reason? Not only will tracking not provide any beneficial info to the Thai government, it is totalitarian.
No, he is ignorant due to the constant stream of negativity and posturing over a remark that is unlikely to affect him.

Uh huh, and bankok bank branches were marking whole rows of machines out of order because of this fact.

Not sure whonis worse, those spreading the disinformation or those only too willing lap it up.

Its started....AC had a run on ATMs 10 days ago....expect the same...no shopping without residency, no ATM working, muggings outside supermarkets, road blocks and passes required with only one per week...living in lala land it tends to go over your head...but now reality is kicking in
What are you on about?

Maybe not blocking farang cards but it does appear to be linked to language, a poster before was saying if you leave the ATM language in Thai, it works. And the app has reverted back to Thai
And that poster should be ashamed for even suggesting that was the issue and feeding the paranoia already so latent on this board.
Another poster suggesting lazada was blocking transactions on foreign cards.
What is wrong with you people?

You can only go to Laos if you get a visa from a Lao Consulate in Thailand in advance, and they will require a medical certificate for you to get one. I'm not sure if any other borders are open for in/out border runs any more.
alas the bold part is the only fact you speak.

I would be worried, specially about elevator surfaces... and wearing gloves while using them and pressing buttons.. a machete to keep others out of the cabin while you are using it would help securing social distancing... ???? minimum is cleansing hands immediately after leaving the cabin
my friends condo has sanitizer dispensers mounted in lifts, lift lobbies and at all common doors.
condo and a cruise ship are different, you can leave a condo, cook in a condo.
cruise ship you are forced to mingle. -

Thanks for your kind words - It's like a cashiers receipt and was stapled to the front of my medical certificate - it showed how much I paid and what date I paid it. Not sure why it was relevant but they told me to go back to the hospital because the dates didn't match.
thanks again

Today I went to the embassy to submit the visa application. They said it will be next day turnaround as normal - so I have no idea what the guy who said it would take 14 days was talking about.
There was a notice that ALL visa applications will have to have a medical certificate. This is available at the local hospital here in Savannakhet for 70 thb.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please double check EVERYTHING on the medical certificate and also reciept. I didn't notice that they have written different dates on the receipt and medical certificate so had to go back to the hospital and get it changed. Another Thai came with us with the same problem. And the embassy staff said his wife works as a nurse there and they have been making a lot of mistakes. So double check everything before you leave.
I realize Laos has stopped issuing visas for the time being but maybe this information will be helpful to someone.
hi mate kudos for being one of the very few sources of good information.
re med cert and receipt, what receipt is this? i sopke to savannakhet on phone about 20 mins ago, they said med cert from bkk hospital was good, but must have been issued within 72 hours of application.is it your visa receipt?

I was unable to make it to the border today in time to submit but did call the Thai embassy Savannakhet who said they would continue to issue non-o monday.
Re the health certificate it must be from a hospital one in bangkok is ok if issued within 72 hours.
cert from a clinic is unacceptable.non bs are not being issues, your own country she said, unfortunately i neglected to ask about tourist visa

i just spoke with an individual at savannakhet consulate by phone after trying for days.
they have indicated that they will be issuing non immigrant o visa monday, no non imigrant b, I neglected to ask about METV, They seemed to believe anyone with a non o should be allowed back in to thailand, but were non-committal.
requirement for non o remain unchanged save the addition of the medical certificate, however the certificate MUST be less than 72 hours old and issued by a hospital. They claim a bangkok hosputal is ok, but clinic will not do.
i was unable to get to mukdahan on time to submit today and am now travelling sunday. sigh.Caveat: you must have a visa already to cross into laos. as of yesterday the Laos consulate in bangkok was issuing them and seemed convinced they would be accepted for the next few days for what that is worth.

For many hours, one of the few firm pieces of news was that you could no longer get a visa on arrival for Laos. While I am now unsure of the truth of this (though it was an official Lao government announcement) be aware that entering Savannakhet without a visa in advance may not be possible.
EDIT: Those who are able to reach Savannakhet might want to ask the consulate whether, in view of the exceptional current circumstances, they are willing to issue visas the same day so you can return before potential border closures.
Yes I spent today doing that at lao consulate bangkok.
And I doubt they will move on the same day visa thing but potential closure is the only reason I am traveling overnight to get there for friday. You are right it cant hurt to ask.
I also have a bangkok clinic issued cert of being clear of symptoms, hooefully that does the trick.
Given the amount of rejections I heard of yesterday for healt cert, im expecting it to be busy as <deleted> friday for a change.

Yep, that was me. I called the embassy myself after lunch because I thought it didn't sound right and the embassy official said as long as I have a medical certificate and all the paperwork is good I would be able to pick up my visa on Monday - but she didn't sound 100% confident. So as usual, I've had two conflicting reports within a couple of hours.
I'm going to submit my visa application tomorrow now that I have a health certificate so I'll come back here and update then.i appreciate you coming back to me on this. the strength of that im willing to roll the dice and spend the weekend in savarnakhet. fingas crossed. sigh
