Yingluck need to answer the questions herself. It's that simple.

    She can't. It's that simple.

She can know .. they have given her study class on YouTube .. she's going to be a busy girl. Watching and re-watching that clip!

But if she turns up, repeats from youtube, then there is challenge and deeper questioning.....

People should be able to see "right from wrong" and once facts are clarified to the public.

So after endless years of depriving the vast majority of normal Thai people adequate education and a full history of lies and corruption from all sides, military and governmental they now believe that all these people are going to understand the in's and out's of the country's constitutional procedures, then all walk away in agreement she is at fault completely. WRONG

As far as the people are concerned they will see it as they have always known it and this will be collective bullying in destroying the woman and all her supporters in an attempt to remove this element from being involved in any democratic process the near future may hold.

It is quite clear that these people can not win over the vast majority of this country through democracy. Only dictatorial measures such as these will have any chance of success. She is out of the picture and the country is at ease. Why stir up trouble? Maybe they think a war on the people will be the best road to take.

    Rubbish.

A very shrewd move. This will be shown around Lanna & Isaan before the verdicts come up, thereby incensing her supporters even more.

In other words the get very quick very quickly club using the situation to get one step closer to a possible /maybe new trough.

In other words more disrespect for moral approaches to building balanced democracy.

"A successful impeachment needs three-fifths of the 250-strong assembly to vote in favour when they meet next Friday."

Shouldn't be so difficult with 52% being military officers and 100% selected and appointed by the junta that overthrew the Yingluck government. What will be more interesting is if Yingluck will be permitted by the Junta to appeal to the Constitutional Court as to the constitutionality of the NLA impeachment decision. The interest will not be whether the Court will sustain the NLA decision (it will), but what convoluted rationale the Court will use to justify upholding the impeachment.

Do you have any other points, something constructive?

    Yingluck 'involved in corruption'
    KRIS BHROMSUTHI
    THE NATION

And how does that make her any different from any copper, army - navy - air force officer, politician, Sino-Thai businessmen or public servant in the history of this country?
Apply the law to all equally or continue be seen as a laughing stock because your witch hunt is indefensible and totally see through to anyone who understands the separation of powers and justice.

You are right she shouldn't be any different from any of the others you mention for if they were negligent or corrupt in their duties they should expect to be dismissed and punished.

Therefor she and any other politician should also expect to be punished for negligence or corruption.

This is not just about her it is about making a benchmark for the future in that it will tell any politician that they are not immune from being held responsible for dereliction of duty or corruption.

Whether she is has herself been involved in or benefited from corruption remains to be seen as it has as yet to go before a court.

The only laughing stock here are yourself and the others who support letting politicians get away with corruption.

No, the reason this is happening is simple. So she cannot be involved in politics in the near future. Mark my words the next PM will not be elected, he will be self appointed....again. It will happen in the next 5 years or less and he country will be in turmoil.

And you might be surprised how many Thai people are saying they would be quite happy for the good general to remain pm for a much extended time to be able to get reforms solidly I place.

Don't agree at all, IMHO it will be very straight forward based on fact, no need at all for any convolution.

The ones who need it most would not attend for they already know that democracy means winning elections by any means, then doing anything you like.

Utter nonsense. The elections were not won by any means. They were won by means pursuant to electoral law and the royally endorsed constitution of the time.

Thai democracy is not Democracy at all. In Thailand, dissent and disagreement is seen as troublemaking. Democracy itself is based on differing views. This is why the powers in this land always site political disagreement as a reason why Democracy doesn't work for Thailand, and continually abuse the people's rights using guns.

There will be nothing approximate to Democracy in Thailand in our lifetimes and the only reason why this cannot be generally understood is because to explain it is to break the law.

Perhaps you would like to consider: the letter of the law, the intent of the law, what is immoral but is within the letter of the law, etc?

  11. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

Thai culture is not conducive to democracy, with the act of kreng jai and not questioning your superior they are taught from very young to accept. That is not the root of democracy.

    So what's your point:

    - Therefore Thailand should or should not try to establish good quality democracy?

  12. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

Which consitution are they going to educate the population about?

They have 13 to choose from. My country doesn't even have one, and we manage just fine for hundreds of years with what many would consider a model for international democracy.

Excuse me if I miss this event.

Yes there are countries without a stand alone constitution but in reality, in most cases, they have many many laws which in fact create the same thing as a constitution.

Therefore your point has no meaning.

Could it be worse than that offered in the red shirt democracy schools that suddenly sprung up in northern parts during 2010?

    yes

red shirts actually care about democracy

"red shirts actually care about democracy"

So how do you explain the various actions of the previous red gov't to create / install a dictatorship?

"red shirts actually care about democracy"

So how do you explain the various actions of the previous red gov't to create / install a dictatorship?

explain when and how that happened.

see, cause that is just all in your own imagination.

    what we have now qualifies.

Me: So how do you explain the various actions of the previous red gov't to create / install a dictatorship?

You: explain when and how that happened.

Me: No need to explain, well documented in many articles and reports in various media, but perhaps you were sleeping for the last several years.

These Junta clowns are repeating their 2006 failure. They have silenced all opposition voices with their guns and oppression and now idiotically believe that the dearth of criticism of their ridiculously biased actions is proof of their correctness and vast public support - idiots one and all. This right wing extremist joke is hurtling inevitably towards its deserved demise

"Examples need to be set that those who commit wrong will be punished, so no future leaders dare repeat these actions. This will create sustainable reconciliation," the NACC member said.

    - Does this line of thinking apply to the Army leaders and the coups they continually inflict upon the nation? Selective justice is no justice at all!

Reconciliation cannot be forced by one side onto the other at the barrel of a gun.

so you like that this corruption from shinawatres continou !!

was ever an political leader imposed by fake and vote buying system kicked out by democratic rules ??

Did change any Dictatorship by democratic votes ?

Will Kim Jung Un step down if in election he would get less than 50% ??

So this is what you say !!

lets Korean people deside in a vote if Kim is the elected president !

    From which country you are ? ( ISAAN ? ) ;

mango66, English is a bit a bit a problem for you huh?

Issan is not a country, it's a province, and it's attitudes like yours that think that your superior in some way, NEWS flash, YOUR NOT......

Take a look at her bank accounts there will be a paper trial and if she stole money and is corrupt then put her in gaol, if no paper trial of corruption then to bad have another crack.

Essan / Issan is not a province, suggest you get your facts straight too.

You think all corruption money goes into bank account of the person in question - think again.

    This is really very simple.

her wealth and assets alegedly tripled, during her time in government, involving BILLION'S of baht.

Ask her where this new found wealth came from and let her proove it.

This simply isn't true. Please provide some data if you have it to back up your claim. Her personal wealth, which was modest, increased modestly during her time in office and was due to legitimate growth in investments. Her worth is nowhere near billions. I really am tired of this mindless banal nonsense coming from hatemongers.

You tell the OP to produce data re big gain in wealth.

You made a statement "... increased modestly during her time in office and was due to legitimate growth in investments...." so practice what you preach, provide data to prove your statement.

Yingluck should only have to ask one question.

I and my party were democratically elected by the people of the kingdom of Thailand where as my accusers took the country via the barrel of a gun and your clear bias towards the Shinawatra family is known world wide so why should I have to answer to you lot?

The whole circus is illegal and a sham!

Therefore as a "democratically"elected PM I have the right to destroy the financial stability of the country and the rice business. I can do whatever I want (or rather what my brother wants) without any possible ramifications, because I was elected.

    Oh please!

As one of the Red's chants went " we won the election, we can do what we want ".

Unfortunately it doesn't really matter who runs the country the control attitude is the same and it's a mindset here that isn't going to change.

+1 Absolutely correct and I have my own view on Thai politics but I normally don't bother venting it and dodge these threads like the plague. In a country where I can't own land or any real property, where I can't vote, probably won't get residency and like 99% of the posters on TV will never get citizenship I say who gives a rats arse. I love residing here and will as long as it suits me however I will never get involved in telling the Thai's what is best for them in their country. It is a nonsense. The apologists will tell you "I want what is best for Thailand and the Thai people"... well that is up to them to decide and they will have to mature a lot more as a people to make that choice. Most of the yellow lovers on here have probably never seen anything but a Shin government so how would you know if the alternative is any better, any less corrupt or any less self serving? Much like the vote buying that everyone loves to harp on about it happens in virtually every country and if you think it doesn't your delusional. Most politicians are corrupt, adept at lying and feathering their own nest why would Thailand be any different? So keep battling it out, but your opinion has about as much clout as your ability to make any real change here.. zero. Rant over alt=wai.gif width=20 height=20> . Now I will go back to ignoring these political threads does my f@$#% head in

Well what a constructive on topic post. Well done.

That's just your opinion - and doesn't detract from the picture painted of the rich daughter of a rich Chinese clan which so wants to see all its members elevated to some kind of untouchable hiso elite status.

unlike the unelected military junta which is full of happiness, kindness and goodness

at least they've stopped the murders, attacks and intimidation of citizens who dares speak out against the lying and cheating of the criminal one and his gang.

We shall see the resolve and bottle of the Junta by how they deal with the slippery sneaking Shin attempts to avoid any accountability. And the way they tackle the real issues of corruption.

oh yea? just don't ask him about the 600 million of land his dad sold? or about his brother on the council? or his wife as 'President of Army wives'? BTW what 'murders'? 'attacks'? for speaking out? FACTS please

So what's corrupt about his wife being the president of the Army wives?

They dare not have an election as she would win again... and again... and again... this is the only way for the ammart to retain power and control over the people and she, has the opportunity, come out of this as a 'heroine' who stood up to the BULLIES (i hope so but it's not clear yet whether she will stay and fight or flee). I think she has remarkable composure and I know many Thais love her and her resilience against the elite unelected bully boys.

About time you emerged from your dream.

This is just a way to gather ammunition, like leverage, for future talks with Taksin and PT.

A huge 'deal' is about to be made soon, I believe, and a civilian will step up to be PM as big foreign investors stay away from Thailand and Thai corporations have warned the Junta that this government is a disaster for the economy.

We will see a lot of change over the next few months, just sit back and relax and enjoy the ride!

    What's the 'huge deal'?

Is this just about the economy? Sure a strong economy with stable employment is highly desirable in any country.

But should sorely needed reforms to stop dictatorships just go totally to the back burner?

  20. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

    Does history repeats itself?

"In 1991–2, I became concerned by the way discourses about corruption became part of the struggle between military dictators and civilian politicians. Generals who took power in Thailand by coup in 1991 justified their action in part on grounds that the overthrown (Chatichai) government had been corrupt. This was undoubtedly true. Some of the members of Chatichai’s ‘buffet Cabinet’ had openly confessed to corrupt practices, and had accused their colleagues of even worse behaviour.

What stuck in my throat was that military dictators, who had a record of spectacular corruption in the past, could use this argument to legitimise themselves, and roll back democratic reforms. Out of this came a book on Corruption and Democracy in Thailand."

Your trying to say that the generals who conducted the 1991 - 2 coup are the same as the generals today.

I was here all through the 1991 - 2 coup and the generals IMHO were overall pretty nasty ruthless characters.

IMHO to try to suggest the generals today are of the same brand is very incorrect and just your attempt to spin.

I might add that thee are very mixed opinions about the credibility / flavor of at least one of the journalists you mention.

You should get out of bed a bit earlier.

This is not a Yingluck/Shinawatra problem. The problem of corruption has been around for a long time in Thailand and its roots are
deep in the culture. Just about any Thai in her position would have done the same thing.

you must have been in Thailand for a long time and have not only a very good network but also indepth knowledge of how all Thai independently think and reacts. If not, you should refrain from slanderous accusations towards Thai people.

Wicha said ... that for true reconciliation, people should be able to see "right from wrong" and once facts are clarified to the public, it can decide for itself if holders of public office possess the qualities to lead the country.

speaking of facts, Khun Wicha is one of the former 2007 military constitution drafters. At the time he stated such things as "we all know elections are evil..."

Given his earlier statements and current statements, one can conclude that he doesn't give a rat's a** about reconciliation.

So you believe in saying "....naughty boy, never mind it's OK ....."
