Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra to Visit Flood-Affected Chiang Rai

Good luck with the “I request no formal welcome for my visit." -
And you assume my grand daughters response was hostile? Not true, she is well aware that many of these drivers become violent / very violent (most of these drivers and taxi drivers have a baseball bat or similar or a big machete under their seat). My grand daughter is well aware of her surroundings / possible dangers which means she would keep any contact / response simple and polite. But with no evidence / detail you assume she was hostile. I'll continue to use BOLT as does my grand daughter when it's not convenient for her dad, or her mum to pick her up. (When she started uni she got a new bicycle (her decision) but after being knocked off her bike twice by cars speeding and traveling too close she abandoned using a bicycle. Now she is taking lessons to drive a motorcycle and driving he mocy inside our village for about an hour every day.)

Seafood restaurant owner’s son opens fire on employees, kills one
scorecard replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Wonder who was paying for the beer? Was this beer drinking after work a daily / regular occurrence? Regardless, the violence / the shooting / the injuries to one man and death of the other are way beyond acceptable. And the injuries / death not acceptable, regardless of race. -
Not impressed. And I certainly don't appreciate your attempts to belittle my grand daughter.

What a sad response. Customers have feelings and budgets too.

Strange dialogue: - How is the Baht bus (red) price guaranteed? I don't believe that. - I've used bolt maybe 50 times, never once had any discussion re changing the quote. I have no doubt that people call use the app to book a journey then after getting in the vehicle they change the destination. The quote is based on maps / data / routes in the BOLT computer systems. And the roads etc., within the quote are shown on the customers smartphone. I've heard several foreigners and Thais say after the journey starts they tell the driver to take a different route. The progress of the vehicle is shown on a master screen in the BOLT operations office. Thus may well cause a change in pricing. Don't forget that the drivers 'commission' is based on all the above. If he ends up using more gasoline then is he not entitled to a bigger 'commission?' - My 21 year old grand daughter didn't respond with hostility, that's not how she responds or communicates, not her nature, never. And no she's not on an ego trip, it was just a simple polite and not hostile comment, many folks would do the same.

"Your grand daughter should have remained silent, kept her comment to herself." Just your opinion and I don't agree. She's always polite and courteous, thanks to a dedicated focused upbringing from her father (my Thai son) and her Thai mother. She's now coming up to 21 years old. Third year at uni studying a program, in English, basically 'civil society'. She has occasionally seen/heard her dad or her mom make a comment where they thought it was appropriate. When the red truck driver said 'she should stay home and help her mum' she ignored him, she made no response. She did nothing wrong.

Suggest you check again about the need for personal visit to the bank. Why? All Thai banks want to change customers to online banking and to bank apps so that they can close branches and close ATM services. And most banks have upgraded their call centre capabilities and plenty of excellent English. From my experience the need for personal visit to 2 very famous / big Thai banks has reduced.

My comment is on the red baht buses in Chiang Mai (same thing s blue Baht buses in Pattaya). The red buses still operate but now very often more expensive that taking a BOLT or GRAB taxi. If the journey on a red Baht bus is a single specific journey (not a standard route) then the red fares are very expensive and way above BOLTor GRAB. A year back my Thai grand daughter asked a red BAHT bus service driver for a price for a trip home from her new uni (Chiang Mai uni) to a stop near our house (near BIG C Don Chan). It was 150% more expensive than the expensive quote she already had from BOLT, and the BOLT price included a specific pick up point and drop off at our house. Grand daughter told the red Baht bus driver the price difference was huge and got a mouth full of abuse including a comment why she 'can't stay home and help her mother to take care of the house'.

I have an old friend in Germany who is a hotel management consultant in Germany and the EU. She says that all hotels have security systems / policies in place and even expensive hotels have poor systems which offer little value to guests and they can easily improve their security and the systems already in place. Another point she emphasises is that most hotels have very poor to zero regular monitoring systems and they now well what to monitor / check, using the systems already in place but it doesn't happen. Further on this she's very critical of the internal CCTV systems on the market and very critical re how often they are out of order or the camera has been slightly moved and the camera is now taking / broadcasting pictures of hallway floors / ceilings. And no monitoring to find situations like this and correct them. She and her German husband (same expertise) are currently working with hotel management companies in Singapore and Bali.

Agree and I've found several SIngapore hotels to be great on this point. Security is a big item with me. After a work buddy had some issues at a Bkk 6 star, he then gave the general manager an instruction 'nobody, incl. room staff enter the room unless I am there'. Next day he went to b'fast, came back to his room before 8.00 am and 2 maids and one friend all sitting on the bed. He called the lobby and insisted that the duty manager come to the room immediately. Some push back; 'not convenient'. He told the maids and friend to leave and not come back until he spoke to them further (he speaks Thai). He then went to the lobby and encountered rudeness and was told that he cannot comment on the hotel actions in any way. He went back to the room and sure enough the maids and friend back in the room going through his bags and his passport thrown on the middle of the bed. He checked out and told his company to ban the hotel which they did.

Point taken. Seems to me there's a lot of folks (mainly younger) who want something different from life, see nothing of value any more from current political processes, and mainstream social attitudes, nothing of value in terms of society as a support mechanism where needed so they follow alternatives. But I'm not sure their alternative produces much.

Next step should have been action to start to fix many serious problems, but she seems to think it's all a kiddy game including wait for daddy to tell me when to smile, and knowing full well he will be there 24/7 and in every photo op.
