  1. Stick with Premier. The alternative is even worse.

Exactly - but it is all location, location, location....

    Hey guys

Thanks for replying. Have you tried INDY Phil? I am located in Sansai, Chiang Mai and fairly close to the DSLAM i think. Not really had any issues with Premier except my downloads are limited to 400 kbps. I NEVER get more than this. I also have TOT 3mb and that seems to have improved a lot recently. In fact there isn't much between my connections and i pay 1090 a month for Premier and only 590 for TOT.

  2. I am considering this switch at the moment. I download torrents and watch iplayer etc. My 3mb premier is fine for surfing and is pretty stable however for streaming video and downloads it isn't quite good enough. Was thinking that with 8mb or 12mb INDY i might get a bit more bandwidth for these services. However, i also like to trade stocks online and play cards sometimes which require a stable connection. Would you guys recommend sticking with premier or changing to INDY?

    Any input appreciated.

  3. What a refreshingly intelligent comment from doublearrow.

Another thought for the tourist industry perhaps, if the CNX International Airport was truly intenational, tourists could come directly here without wasting their time and money in BKK.

Yes, double pricing does p...s people off, not because of the cost but the principle, and I have found Vietnam to be much cheaper and just as relaxing with a much better internal bus facility than here, it may be only a matter of time before CNX slips back to being a nice quite place where Thais live happily without a tourist industry to worry about.

The lack of flights from here must be a concern for some.

Recently, i have watched some international and domestic flights get cancelled and there weren't that many to start with.

  4. Paranoid I think.

    You should be ok. :)

I am also wanting to go from CM to Vientiane soon to get a double entry tourist. Do you know the most comfortable way to travel? If someone could post their experience of the various options and approximate costs i would be very grateful.

just go to any travel agent on the moat and ask them for a vientianne visa run and that you want to come back to CM. private van 2 way was like 1,800 roundtrip?

Hi Thaigift. Thanks for posting do you know what the roads are like? It's just i get quite travel sick and if the roads are quite windy i might look for an alternative.

    Cheers

  5. I used KSC hotspot service over a year ago so things might have changed.

I believe your understanding is correct and you can use TRUE wifi free of charge as a KSC hotspot subscriber.

The KSC hotspots are pretty stable and reliable but i never found them lightening fast. I also had KSC at home for a short time and i think their service and support are pretty good but i switched to maxnet because they were just too expensive.

  6. You are not alone OP.

I'm not a vegetarian however i have frequently received pork in my fried vegetables when my Thai girlfriend has specifically asked for "no meat only vegetables".

Only last week i received "Seafood" in my soup when i specifically asked for "no sea food at all". This was in a Korean restaurant at Rimping Ruam Chok. As in almost all restaurants in Thailand, staff were unhelpful and unwilling to change the dish so i won't be eating there again.

  7. In my experience the "cubes" are better than the liquids. You can buy these at Rimping supermarket as indicated above however they are 240 baht per pack i think.

You can also use the cheap wood provided in the markets but they aren't as good as the "cubes".

  8. Not wishing to hijack the thread but i am wanting to sell my house in CM.

I am clueless as to the selling process but if someone could recommend me a good agent and provide an appromoximation of their fees i would be very grateful.

    Martin

  9. Hire a 100-125cc m/c (scooter) like everyone else, about 150-200bht a day or 3000bht a month.

Nobody bothers much with insurance but the compulsory insurance (purchased when taxing mc) covers 15kbht in hospital fees.

Nobody steals stuff like that in CM (I've never heard of anyone having a m/c stolen), you leave your helmet sitting on the mirror, shopping hanging off the handlebars.

    I've never had anything taken.

You should have a valid driving licence in English or Thai, but nobody is going to check.

(Just for your safety and everyone elses)

    Hi

I would also add that my cleaning lady recently had her bike stolen as did 2 of my friends. I have also had a helmet lifted off the handlebars of my own bike.

Riding a bike around CM is very convenient but make sure you park in secure areas and don't leave any valuables inside.

If you are looking to buy there is a decent market on Sundays at Ruam Chok right next to Rimping supermarket. If you want to rent there is a decent shop right before you turn into the Chiang Mai Gate Hotel on the left hand side.

    Cheers

  10. Ok so from what they said I need to go to a 7/11 and purchase a top up card for the correct amount (950 baht plus VAT so 1017 baht or something) then call them again and ask them to put it on the data plan.

Seems like a long winded process and I don't understand why it cannot be easier? Surely there is a better way

You would think there is a better way but unfortunately there isn't. I have had endless frustration with this since i started using the service about 12 months ago. As soon as DTAC get 3g i will instantly be dumping AIS.

  11. we dont believe its impossible..............but for a tourist to think he gonna pick up a nice office girl for free is ludicrious! only way i see it is if man lie thru his teeth promising this and that.

if im a hot thai good girl, no way am i thinking of going out w a tourist in the hopes it turn into long time relationship.

ps i hear govt is thinking about putting iodine or something in water to raise iq level of its people............so maybe the stupidity of thai girls is possible:lol:

I've lived in Thailand for a few years and from my experience plenty of office girls are looking for a "casual relationship". Quite often these ladies have previously been hurt in serious relationships (mostly with Thai men) and don't want the hassle of a serious relationship. I lived mostly in BKK would i would not expect it to be any different in Koh Samui (although i have never been there).

  12. The fewer tourists the better. I'm loving it!

Depression? What depression? Pattaya, Samui and Phuket, now THAT'S depression!

I was in Phuket 2 weeks ago and it was VERY busy. I was very surprised after reading all the gloomy stories.

  13. Hi

I will be visiting Phuket at the end of the month and staying at the Kantary Bay hotel. After reading all the stories about tuk tuk's i would like to avoid any problems by renting a motorbike with insurance. I'm looking for a reputable rental shop to deliver a bike to my hotel at the start of my vacation and collect it at the end. I am staying for 5 days and have a full Thai licence.

If someone could recommend a good shop i would be very grateful.

    Thank you.
