I'm fully aware of the details, I just don't understand the hysterical fixation on his previous employment. He was a known user of Ya-bah, he was caught and (eventually ) dismissed in June and from the date of his sacking he ceased to be a police officer. Its not really important were he sourced his ya-bah from, it is readily available for anybody who wants it

got to agree with you, My personal thoughts are that it was a combination of many factors, a "perfect storm" as they like to say, Easy access to a gun,? of course. Some sort of mental issues,? definitely The concept of face ? without doubt. but for sure heavy use of Ya -bah will not have helped matters

I am confused by why so many people are obsessing about his former job, ok so as a police man he may have received some firearm training but I doubt he was taught how to use a knife and the relevance regarding what he did stops there. Anybody could learn how to use a gun in less than an hour. The only other relevance of his previous employment might be the response of the police in investigating what happened but I doubt that is valid considering the scrutiny this case will be under

I think it is irrelevant what his previous occupation was, he could just as well have been an ex bank manager. He was sacked due to his drug misuse, as are many people, not many companies / organisations follow up a drug related sacking with a comprehensive drug rehabilitation program do they ? Perhaps they should , in a perfect world eh ?

Mental problems could absolutely cause somebody act in such a manner, there is no other explanation, are you suggesting he was a regular run of the mill guy ?

Of course the guy was a complete nut job no need to let political correctness stand in the way of describing him as such, any body committing an act of this nature obviously is mentally disturbed. His alleged use of methamphetamine may or may not have been a factor, who knows?

I cannot accept that it would take 6 weeks ( is that as a result of a queuing system ?) nor that the presence of methamphetamine could be accurately detected by a breath test as he suggested Surely the result of a blood test would be almost instantaneous

I'm not convinced that arming more people is the way forward, The uk for example has always resisted arming the police ( other than specialised officers) and as a result the amount of gun crime is relatively small, Compare that to America were all cops and many others are armed it has not reduced these kind of incidents Military trained Teachers with guns ? I don't think that would be a very good Idea .Most normal people would be unable to kill another

It would be a "start", however the next perpetrator is not necessarily going to be ex-army or ex police, I don't know what the answer is or even if there is an answer. Many people are motivated by money here "money number one" as they say, perhaps some sort of financial incentive could persuade people to hand in their guns or report those who won't, possibly funded by the lottery ? It won't be 100% effective but many would jump at the chance to get their hands on say 5000 baht. It would be another step in the right direction would it not?

Is working as a prostitute actually on the list of reserved occupations alongside hairdressers and tour guides etc ? If not then there is really no excuse for not obtaining a work permit beforehand

Estimates are just that. whether by self appointed "experts" or anybody else. There are many guns here but nothing like this has happened before, Perhaps a more pertinent question is how many nutters are out there that have the potential to commit similar atrocities? Perhaps the "experts" could shed some light on that? If they were registered guns they would not need a swedish "survey" to "guess" how many , they would just n look in the register and count them. Nobody has a clue how many illegal guns are circulating, or perhaps more importantly, how many of them are in the hands of nutters like that guy

Plenty of guns in Thailand, not so sure how a Swedish institute has any Idea how many there are , Guesswork in my opinion.

How would any research project, establish the number of guns , was it a telephone survey? or online survey ? or were they over here knocking in doors and asking people? Or maybe yet another "fine" example of "mathematical modelling " " the graduate institute of international and development studies in geneva" ??? sounds very impressive but how could they possibly know Why was the "survey" not conducted in partnership with the authorities here, that way as the guns were found they could have been confiscated . not sure if that work's available for foreigners, but I saw something on the news a few nights ago where a Thai woman was paying 100,000 per month for the services of a Bar boy ( or "bar host" ) as they called him His hourly rate was 2500 baht . She was not bad looking either I would have done her for free

25 years ago several people tried to "warn" me that the energy drinks like M-150 and lipo contained amphetamine.!! They were deadly serious, I also remember rumours that Thai beer contained formaldehyde . That guy seems determined to start his own urban myth, I can see no other reason for his post

seems nearly every week some hitherto unknown publication publishes an advertisement for Thailand quoting some fictional figures from imaginary people as part of the spiel . The correct response is to just ignore it all, Where people find the energy / inclination to vehemently agree or disagree with the obvious b/s is a mystery to me. As is the possibility that somebody might arrange a holiday based on what they have read in a magazine which they probably found in a dentists waiting room or whilst waiting for their car to be serviced or wherever else these rags end up prior to their final resting place
