Why are they memorable? What's special?. If I'm honest, apart from the bigger cities, every other place is much the same. Same as everywhere in the world. However the people make the experience, not the bricks and mortar. But you have to meet the people and can't do that on a fly through visit.

Rode an elephant at the festival in 2013. Never again!! Basic bamboo platform to sit on and try to balance with nothing to hold onto. Just rope around the elephants belly holding the platform on. At that stage I was 120kg and the wife 50 so trying to stop the platform sliding sideways was a challenge. Was not feeling safe at all !!
