Can recommend a book called " April Fools Day". Well worth reading. Some stark realities in there, not the feel good stuff some people want to believe. It's about a young haemophiliac, the author's Bryce Courtney, son, in Australia who contracted AIDs due to the need for blood transfusions back in the 1980's. Every haemophiliac died during that period due to infected blood as I recall. Haemophiliacs are exclusively male. It used to also be the rule if you lived in the UK between, I think, 1989 and the mid 90's you couldn't donate blood in OZ due the risk of mad cow disease.
