Has the world gone woke or mad
Tropposurfer replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
If one was to sit down and talk in a considered and critical way with someone (anyone) who uses this word most who do use it have zero capacity to actually define in any way what this word actually means to them. What is offered, vomited up from the psyche is the usually glib, shallow, misinformed, un-processed, bigoted prejudices and fears conveniently and psychologically lazily and oh-so predictably projected outward. I.e. I don't like you. I'm not going to reflect on what how and why that may be in me, so what name can I find to describe you that satisfies and feeds mine, and my groups fear and bigotry. This is precisely the reason for using such nomenclature i.e. it is a convenient way to objectify and cast out and call 'the other' those who think and believe differently to the woke and the woke-loathers alike. If one was to actually sit and discus and chew such labels and to study, even in somewhat simple term, one would have opportunity to see that mankind swings on a continuum from polarity to polarity. Sometimes as a species we settle in the middle in a somewhat balanced places on that continuum. But first what happens is we swing more wildly until balance is achieved. This is evident both in the hateful fearful vitriolic naming and use of such nomenclature to describe 'the other'. To use such language without careful reflection and moderating adjustments offers us up to the darkest of humanity and the horrors that lurk in our shadow-side. How apt a topic for today seeing as today is Armistice Day. A day to bow our heads in silence and sit with the horror of the extremities when we objectify other human beings. As for looking to the average American for any semblance of nuanced understandings of the world and mankind's social structures I shan't hold my breathe for this to emerge lest I turn blue. -
Do you believe in natural selection

Seeing someone laying in the road, paralytic drunk or no, and leaving them there to very possibly be run over. (knowing how folks drive here) Good job mate real good job! -
If the birds are walking all over the area then bird spike strips as we call them in Oz won't work. But, if they roost on pipes or handrails you can simply either stick or screw these spikey strips along the railings and bingo. If they walk all over the patio floor then a screen akin to insect screens will work perfectly OR maybe try a solar powered owl or similar predatory bird attached to a railing or perch. These gadgets have wings that move, and heads that turn. You can occasionally move them about the patio to fool the birds that the predator is real. I know folks that use then for crazy cockatoos in Australia (where they can be a total pest and extremely destructive ... eating decking, lights and screen doors etc). They put theirs on a tall bird perch which he fashioned quite quickly and easily ... Not one cockatoo ever came back the moment he put the fake predator out - and cockatoos are very smart birds!

As an Aussie who once had his passport damaged while in LOS and therefore had to get it renewed while in-country. Get it done NOW ASAP. As a side note you have to have 6 months time left on a passport to move across borders in most countries. So theoretically your stuck here until you get a new one, or of you leave on it you risk not being granted re-admission to the Kingdom. Priority Registered Post to Oz. OR take it to the Aussie embassy in BKK (amazing building) with new passport photos and funds to pay and they'll process it for you and you return there to collect. It's easy to do there. Mine took about 6 weeks ... but that was back in 2012.

Phuket immigration need appointment?
Tropposurfer replied to SteezyP's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
No appointment necessary at either. Phuket Town - Get there very early stock up on gaffee buran and kanom for the queue. If you get sunburn take an umbrella as you'll spend some time in the sun. While Patong offices are seeing less numbers it's still (always) a total bun-fight ... to get served early you need to get there at least an hour before the doors open and fight to keep you spot every moment - people push shove squeeze and intimidate/get cranky with others all the time there (its also in direct sunlight from about 7 am onwards so it gets hot as hell, or if raining you'll get drenched along with your paperwork). Phuket Town is far more organised, there's much more physical space and more shade cover. The I.O. support officers allow far less chaos here too. Make sure your paperwork is in perfect order, you've got the exact cash and correct photos for the visa type extension before you queue up. Thank the gods I don't have to go to these places anymore ???????????????? -
<deleted>! We already pay 3 or 400 AUD a night at Anantara, Kempinski, St Regis etc in LOS. If folks can afford the above which most cannot then tax the high end hotels and resorts sure not the middle and lower. AND don't let the entrenched corrupt steal this added tax like they do everything else! What a total p0nce. Here's a suggestion akin to some others posted here ... How about this plonker donating some of his insanely astronomical wealth to help OR ... how about the 1% of Thailand that control EVERYTHING and take EVERYTHING give a bit more to the nation. I'm reminded of, in this fellas comments, the same rhetoric/false narrative promoted in the World by the 'trickle down economics' proponents. Ahem rephrase that the 'robber barons' ... trickle - (dribble being the more appropriate word) and their lackies in the governments of this world.

Sorry you had a bu.mer of an experience with MB Lacessit. There are lemons (even in Benz's) and bad faith dealers for sure. I've owned them for decades (in OZ, USA, Europe and now LOS) and never had a bad car, nor a bad experience with either the parent company or dealerships. In fact the exact opposite. Bend over backwards to be helpful and service oriented. I was savvy enough though to not pay the insane prices for servicing but used AAA quality independents for my services and parts. My new Benz is simply another glorious progression in a long line of superb automobiles.

Sorry you've got this annoying ongoing aircon problem ???? Is your quote from MB? You say it was definitely found under the dash. If this is the definitive leak point then ... ... There are some good MB independents around BKK who can help you at maybe at less cost. Sorry I can't offer a referral as I'm in Phuket. My caution about any independent touching a complex, fine tolerance vehicle like a Benz is something I would not personally conscience unless you have really good long experience with that particular mob. As an MB owner here myself I would say that under 1000 AUD for this dash removal fix is quite reasonable (especially if its being done by MB as you get a rock solid warranty on the work and genuine parts and MB grade gas). Given the fix requires removing the entire complex dash and components to access, repair, and reassemble I wouldn't use anyone but someone with long experience, a solid well-known independent OR similar good rep Benz dealership to touch it. Peace of mind is also one thing I wouldn't trade off for a few hundred dollars.

New Zealand expat arrested in Phuket with 26 guns and 11 grenades
Tropposurfer replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
I thought that immediately after wondering why would someone want to amass such an arsenal, then I thought maybe a white nationalist nutter like the freak who attacked and murdered all those Muslims a few years back in NZ. -
2. Haven't gone down in Australia ... I called my cousin on Sunday and he paid $2.37 AUD a litre for unleaded 98 (best quality/mix super) on the lowest cycle day price last week. Diesel is around $2.37 AUD. There was a temporary freeze on the Federal petrol tax in for a while back at home in OZ but it was reinstated a month or so ago which put the prices back up about 30c AUD a litre. I paid 34.7 bht a litre which is a touch over 1 AUD in Chalong on Saturday morning. To me that is dirt cheap.

That's why I bought in the area I did. No locals for quite a few miles. No stinking plastic burning, no maddening Thai music at all hours. No local whiskey drunks wandering about, no soy dogs, no muffler free motocys nanda.
