  1. After the 'Glock Rule' has been extended to whomever preys on others in this way, let's see 'The Singapore Rule' here for such drug trafficking. No 'holiday' in jail, but a terrifying walk to the rope.
  2. I was recently back on Oz and a buddy of mine turned up to a 'golf date' and he was pee'd-off! He picked up his phone to check for messages (driven by lust for a cute woman he had met earlier and who had messaged him) at the traffic lights (stopped). He was photographed by the camera with his phone in his hand and got 5 demerit point on his license and a $362 AUD fine. Which in Oz is almost half the demerit points for a year before your license is suspended for the rest of the year. I just polled a bunch of my mates at home and they say they see far less drivers with phones in their hands these days than a year or two ago. When I asked what they though this was about they said it was knowing the use of cameras and the police on the roads nabbing them. Whether such a social consciousness/fear can be both instilled and enforced here is another matter.
  3. Yeah ???????????? they seem to have their doo-doo together and do have regular discounts and a good range and as you say seamless delivery and install.
  4. Call Thai Airways and book a golf cart to meet you. Yes you'll have to pay for it - I'm not sure of the price. You come out of the airbridge and then through the glass barding arrival areas of the gate and the cart will be there waiting for you.
  5. I thought heroin was illegal in LOS ????????????.
  6. Driver poorness, speed, chemical impairment, lack of attention, distraction, and the other possible factors described by my learned experienced A.N, colleagues is all valid. It wouldn't stop the sudden halting of momentum of the striking vehicle into the stationary vehicle but if the trucks in Thailand had anti-intrusion bars under the read of their trays and pantechs (like they do in Oz) then being crushed/decapitated by the tray of the truck would be almost impossible. Once they installed such bars on ALL Australian trucks of every wight category the incident of fatal rear-ending of trucks dropped dramatically.
  7. Yeah! ???????? I come from the Antipodes and there the idea that large swathes of a public beach thereby excluding masses of others by leasing or squatted on by chair and umbrella vendors would be considered blasphemy and almost treasonous lol ????. You go to the beach .... you take your own mat, brollie and if needed beach chair.
  8. Consider buying shares in safe established gold-mining, you'll get a better return. Try Western Mining in W.A. Australia as one example of a great investment in Oz. Some ingots too are an idea as solid in-hand wealth. I bought shares with Western Mining, and a portfolio of other gold mining companies in Australia spanning as far back with my initial shares some 20 years and have made superb profit on investment ... AND a very secure medium/long term investment they are. Remember if you do buy gold to get the purest ingots from the best producers you can as this affects the buying and resale price. As far as I am aware Thai gold due to its purity levels is not as lucrative (am willing to stand correction on this?) as gold from e.g. Canadian, South Africa, Australia.
  9. Of course he had a chicken under his arm ... Back off or the chook gets it !!!!
  10. Rather walk around here than in north America any day of the week
  11. I know 2 fellas (falangs) who live on the island, live near us, who have ex-military Thai's on their house-staff trained and licensed to own hand guns ... they have the weapons onsite in case any nutter thinks it's mass murder time.
  12. Lovely Thai female smiles. I bought a cheeky onepiece number for this years run lol ???????? but I'm a tab worried it makes my butt look too big ... hahahaha ????????????
  13. Yep says it all about our hedonistic ways hahaha ????
  14. That's a good question. I'm curious too? I guess I have seen a TT driver follow falangs into the temple entrance, but not right into a temple building. My Thai is poor (well I think it is) but I never get hassled now (I did when I was just visiting on holidays and in BKK) and probably looked like a bright, shiny, wide eyed mark lol ???? I simply tell then no thanks, I live here and have my car.
  15. Yep. I have Aussie passport (born there) and British through my dear departed dad. Just be sure you use same passport you enter with to leave with. It was great during EU membership as I could fly into Europe, no visas and go wherever I pleased with complete ease. I still use it when I/we fly into UK and sometimes get a nice warm; 'welcome home' by the IO folks bless their Ol' Blighty hearts thinking I'm returning home after a long absence ... hahaha ????????
  16. If it were to attend I'd love to see leaders en mass turn their backs on him when he approaches them or enters the room.
  17. Pretty much the same timeline as me and mine was back in early 2020. Easy huh ? ????
  18. No complaints about lovely mother Russia and the boom times until the water got a bit too warm maybe? I have a Russian (St Petersburg) friend who married a Swiss some years back, and she saw and wrote, as a journalist, about the deliberate, inexorable, degradation of Russias moral centre spanning decades since Putin came to power. She can't go back home now because of her speaking out. I hope the Ukrainians drive every last son back behind the Russian border pre-Crimea invasion and show them no mercy.
  19. The food halls in Centralworld Malls are good. MQuartier has a good food hall and a good selection of deli stuffs.
  20. Leave, and if you own sell. Life is too short to live next to a vortex of insanity.
  21. I'd agree with many here about stop watching violent social media stuff. Once you watch a few those dang media site algorithm's will target you again and so on ... its not good for your/anyones head. In other nations people go around smacking people and acting like total appendages. It happens here too but as others have said its very rare here per capita especially with falangs and Thais ... if you're cool and relaxed nobody will touch you unless you invite it. If you walk around with the fear/images of how unsafe it is and being hurt others will see it (even if they aren't aware they do). Yes there are wolves about, if you act like a sheep you may get bit. If you really want to defend yourself go find a good western boxing coach and learn the art and slowly begin to spar when he says it's safe to do so. Learning to use your feet at your age will take focus and time away from the hands and defensive technique. I've been boxing (and other arts) since I was twenty and still spar every week at age 66 (and I hold me own against lads in their twenties). I put that down to a lot of experience and good basics. One of my mentor/coaches in Oz won the boxing world masters some years back in his mid sixties in two weight divisions so staying fit, fast, and strong is entirely possible at your age. Maybe not as goods as my mentor but still fit, strong, agile and handy if need be. Boxing training is good for mateship and despite some images of it can be a really honourable and character building endeavour. I would bet you if you did take it up within a year or so any trepidation will leave you and you will feel less fearful and completely forget about possible dangers lurking here and there, or wanting to use your hands in the street.
  22. With all respect to GP's they are not equipped or trained to assess anything but the most glaringly obvious mental health conditions. All police need to have psychologist delivered, periodic, random, psych tests, as well as station shift commanders need to make regular reports to regional and national commands of all their officers in conjunction with their psychological wellbeing not just other 'standard' policing performance indicators.
  23. Yo escape, Elite are very kind I found/find. Just ask as many questions as you need, they understand. It's easy to do the bank account through Elite with Bangkok Bank just to get you started n settled and change to another later if you want to. I opened an account in Bang Tao/Cherngtalay area. I did my own with a tad of help from a friendly real estate agent I was dealing with. I can't answer if they'll do it in Patt's for you. It might be tricky with you address details for the bank if you haven't got those in place first. BUT to get settled and have readies use your usual Visa or whatever at the bank ATM ... for a few weeks it won't cost you too much in fees and exchange rates ... If you have international transaction fee free UK cards then you'll give the Thai banks little by way of fees in that short period. Once you've got a drivers license, condo lease or house bought things get a tad easier with all sorts of things. It takes no time at all for Elite to set the accounts up for you ... You can set up Singapore banking (for big money account) from UK before you leave easy enough, should you wish to use this option. As to your drivers license thats easy too Elite will help with that, and when you go to renew in 2 years for your 5 year license ... it'll be pretty easy then as you'll hopefully have some language skills and because you already have a valid Thai license renewing for the next 5 is pretty simple. If you're adventurous, patient, and want to learn about the whole MOT process you can do it yourself, I did, and it was kinda fun. I only sat for an eye and reflex test so dead easy. Seeing as you have a UK license (I assume its clean and your middle aged) you shouldn't have any issue with the license as our nations licenses are respected in LOS and translate to simple issuing here (well they did in Phuket MOT lol ????). I'd suggest before you leave Ol' Blighty you get some great international money investment, and offshore money moving advice - not your local bank! And plan how to move your money out of the UK as efficiently as you can. I got into Singapore Bank's for the majority of my cash (I don't think, based on members comments here of money disappearing without trace in LOS banks that putting any large sums here is a good idea - the junta thing made me seek other ways of money storage and investment). But, that's up to the individual and may not be the majority of expat experience of banking here. Its expensive (fees and transfer fees) to leave money in my home country as an emigre overseas so I simply moved my money offshore. Maybe UK is different in this regard so go check this if you haven't already. There's quite a few S'Pore banks that are very welcoming and helpful e.g. HSBC, Barclays etc. Don't forget to get a legal will set up asap after you land to cover your money and any assets you might procure e.g. house, car, bike/s etc.
