  1. My experience in Thailand is the manufacture/distributor's service center provides the best service at a reasonable price. This seems not to be true in the USA, where I am from, but I have had nothing but good service from Samsung, Siemens, Electrolux, etc.
  2. Trying to get someone here to recommend a specific dentist here is like pulling teeth. I recommend Zmile Dental Clinic in Chiang Mai and the female dentist who is the owner. She went to dental school in the USA and practiced there as well. Speaks perfect English. Unfortunately I have forgotten her name. She spent 30 minutes with me discussing my dental issues and concluded that no work was needed now. There was no charge. It was clear to me that she is practicing at a high ethical level. And Chiang Mai is a nice place to stay and visit! https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100089101495989&locale=hi_IN&paipv=0&eav=AfYq9usd6jgZ3jj6UFgLdhlJ1fzElBKUwmFeU2W5Yy7OJPzCTMfxIO_HdwprQpWUm2I
  3. That used to be common with new bike purchases (one year of 1st class insurance), but it does not seem to be so anymore.
  4. I wonder if that fake news story was planted by someone that wanted to increase the value of their condo for a pending sale. That's pure speculation. Could be some internal organizational strife being played out. Or just kids, them damn kids!
  5. Has the Pink Line monorail to the Changwattana government complex opened? I saw an article that said test runs started last week but it was unclear if all stations were open or if they would be open on 1 September. It will be nice to avoid the taxi drivers there as well as the horrible traffic in the afternoon.
  6. I stayed in an Airbnb recently that had a Samsung washer/dryer all in one. My hopes were low as my previous experience was hours long cycles yielding damp clothes, but the Samsung worked perfectly and quickly. I was pleasantly surprised.
  7. Oh damn. I didn't even think about that and I just payed them. OK. It is in Thai and English!
  8. Thought I would give Siemens service center a try based on the high quality of their website https://www.siemens-home.bsh-group.in.th/repair The customer service rep I spoke with was quite helpful and ultimately offered me a similar Bosch washer for 12,500 baht which seemed reasonable. So I am set and thanks for your suggestions. Bosch WAJ20170TH - An older model, I think, but that is OK.
  9. Thanks. That will work fine. I just have to find it at one of the stores that will install it.
  10. I'm sure it could be fixed. All it needs is drum bearings I think but she wants to keep life simple and buy a new one.
  11. I called them the other day to ask where to drop my Honda Wave off since I was taking the train to Chiang Mai. Drop off the bike at the Bang Sue station "across the street" I was told. Not sure what means exactly as I have never been there and decided not to take the trip. Call 1690 for excellent customer service in great English!
  12. The washing machine in my rented condo needs replacement and the owner asked me to buy a new one, up to 20,000 baht and deduct it from my rent. I was happy with my old one, which was a Siemens front loader with temperature settings up to 90 degrees. Any suggestions for a new one? The Siemens is no longer available and the few other Siemens models I see online are quite expensive. I would be happy to spend closer to 10,000 baht to keep the owner happy. She has been good about everything over the years. Thanks.
  13. Anyone have a recommendation for a physical therapist for shoulder issues? I need some fairly specific and experienced guidance on stretches and exercises for recovering from "frozen shoulder". I have heard great things about Ajarn Noi at Chiang Moi Physiotherapy and planned on seeing her on this trip, but she is taking a break for now. Thanks.
  14. I am resurrecting this ancient thread because I happened upon an elephant brand leather wallet of the sort I used to buy years ago. There is a vendor at the Sunday market in Chiang Mai selling them. I paid 200 baht each without much bargaining. After ten years I'm back in the faux elephant skin wallet game!
  15. They have cleverly designed the system so that when the online submission is rejected it's too late to mail it in. And they only return my photocopies every 3rd or 4th time. Frankly, I am starting to think they just don't care about my minor inconveniences.
  16. Thanks. Oh well, I guess I'll have to add the residency certificate to the list of minor bureaucratic annoyances that are part of the experience of living here. ????
  17. I can't get the housebook as I live in a rented condo. The work permit book is good for motorcycle registration also and I occasionally buy and sell them.
  18. All pages on my old work permit book are stamped so I was told I need a new work permit next renewal in Bangkok. I like having the book with my address in it as it substituted for the residency certificate whenever needed. Is the only option for the new work permit the kind without an address? Or can I request a book with address? Thanks.
  19. Thanks. Where did you get the copy made?
