  1. Is there? So far there is no government, no clear path to forming a government, and doubts about Pita's ability to serve as PM...
  2. Overstay and fraud I get it - arrest is justified - but arresting people over failure to file TM30? that's a bit harsh. I hope they're only arresting the landlords and not the tenants as I doubt many Thai landlords actually file these things, and it's not the (legal) responsibility of the tenant. Anyway, all these crackdowns only serve to deter foreigners/tourists. Good luck with their "X million tourists this year" goal.
  3. Another day, another idiot buying property for a Thai woman in her name. If it's in her name, it's a gift. It's not an investment, it's not yours, it will never be yours, and you will never see money back from it. Simple solution: don't buy her <deleted>. Now get back in your lane.
  4. He talks too much for his own good. Surely acquired new enemies since the election. The more he talks, the less chance he'll make it to PM. I like MFP but stop talking before you've even formed an actual government. Time will judge what you do - not what you say - assuming they even make it to government.
  5. Good life rule anywhere, not just Thailand. Though things tend to go from 0 to 100 a lot quicker here than they do in other places. As for the guy - he's an idiot for dating a girl/hooker who's dangerously violent, and he's even more of an idiot for fleeing the scene - this could've been his opportunity to leave that relationship relatively unharmed with police escorting him. Next time he wants to leave she'll get even more violent or otherwise try to get him in trouble (fake police complaints etc). Abusive partners come in both sexes.
  6. WTF? Does MFP have no idea who their constituents are? I have no love for cannabis but a great percentage of MFP voters do. Ban it in public, allow it in private, and move on!
  7. Being a drug runner is not just a "bad decision" - it's a potentially life-ending decision either by prison/death sentence, or in this case another form of death sentence. I don't care how dumb a kid is - there is no excuse to get involved in something like this - especially if he comes from a relatively stable household and didn't come from the gutters.
  8. Agreed. It makes no sense. Maybe the guy wanted a piece of the girlfriend and they tried to resist? or maybe she was already sleeping with him and the kid found out and confronted him? It's extremely weird that the gf would ride with him (without trying to run away or ask for help) after she witnesses him murder her bf. Unless she was in on it or sleeping with him already.
  9. Aside from the weed and tattoos, sounds good actually. ???? I dread the day when my wife's husband and/or my (married) brother visit Thailand. I mean, it'll be like watching a kid in Disneyland who knows he's not allowed to be seen enjoying the rides...
  10. Lost her revenue stream, so she demands compensation. Sad that this is what her daughter's life is worth to her, but understandable. What's not understandable is the amount she demands. The daugher wouldn't have brought in 179 mil in the remainder of her career - the shelf life of idols is very limited. And that's before discounting the fact that the mother would get only a fraction of the revenue. If she already received 10 mil in compensation then that's more than enough. She's shown contracts for 10 mil - which means that after taxes and the daughter's own expenses the mother would get what out of that? 1-2 mil? so she's suing for 90 years in advance? ????
  11. Illegal gun ownership is already punishable by up to 10 years in jail - but it's rarely enforced. They could start by simply enforcing current law.
  12. If he's not mature enough to plan a vacation - he's not mature enough to travel. Pattaya in a dorm and meeting girls (I assume you're thinking of freebies) on beach road? Which he will then take to his dorm? ???????????? The proper way to do Pattaya is go by taxi, stay in a cheap hotel close to the action (~600 baht a night is possible), do a gogo tour paying too much for drinks and lady drinks, pay more at a nightclub, end the night with a cutie who's name and face you'll immediately forget after she leaves with 1-2 crispy bills. Not a "budget holiday" destination...
  13. But bystanders do get injured, property gets damaged, and worst of all some of those gangs go on to harass and attack complete strangers. There's been a string of incidents of teen gangs attacking strangers in Pattaya lately. If they carry guns and other deadly weapons they need to be rounded up and locked up. Age is not an excuse for being a violent thug. This isn't "teens wil be teens" - more like teens will be future murderers.
  14. I live in the Soi 11 area - yet managed to remain dry this year. Just took a taxi to whereever I wanted to go, and avoided Nana/Cowboy and other such areas. If someone chooses to walk in such areas they do so at their own soak risk. As for this guy - he had a water gun in his hand and was spraying passerbys. He knew exactly what was going on and there's zero room for excuses.
  15. IMHO the main reason why Bangkok has never rebounded in terms of tourism is the wet blanket 2am closing times. That changed the whole nightlife experience that used to be here in the past, and hurts tourism significantly. Bangkok is not getting repeat tourism as a result. I know many guys who used to come several times a year but now they won't return because it's boring for them. Phuket fares a little better because they close later - but Phuket is it's own **** show and having to deal with hordes of annoying drunk tourists and shisha smoke everywhere is a terrible experience. Pattaya is trying to commit tourism-harakiri lately by raiding establishments and conducting drug tests on innocent people - ruining their night in the process. The end result is simple - less tourists. I was supposed to go to Pattaya today - cancelled my trip. Chiang Mai is air pollution central - 'nuff said. Add to that price increases across the board, increase in taxi and other scams, viral bad news like kidnappings and raids, and the list goes on. The last year+ was fueled by young people who were desperate to travel, but now that they've scratched that itch already, world economy and inflation woes, and higher airfare prices - many will not return as often. This was completely predictable. At least the good news is that once tourist numbers are down, prices and attitudes will get back down to earth too.
  16. Learned long ago to hide/lock all valuables before going out drinking. Even if I black out, the worst they can steal is the cash in my pockets. But unlike ladyboys, girls don't normally steal - almost never happens and if they do it's stupid small stuff like a pack of condoms or a mini-fan.
  17. He bottled 2 guys and they (police) just let him keep on going to assault more people? wtf? Should've arrested him right then, and avoid this tragedy. Hopefully he's jailed for a long time then deported. There's nothing worse than violent tourists who seek fights.
  18. Apparently not enough. And agreed- with the right water pressure and enough time, it will blast away anything there. Using your hand might get the job done quicker, but isn't actually necessary with the proper... technique.
  19. Japan invented electronic bidets - not the bum gun. In 8 years of living there I've never once seen a bum gun there - 99% of toilets have electronic bidets. Which brings me to the next poop..err..point - between living in Japan and Thailand for 15+ years, I don't quite remember when was the last time I've used toilet paper. Trips back to my home country were a painful experience (literally) until I realized that wait - why not just install a bum gun there? it's not rocket science. Ordered one from Amazon (I think) and boom! my very own bum blaster. Works great in summer, but will freeze my butt off (literally) in winter. Stil better than grinding toilet paper though!
  20. Maybe he got some "encouragement" to change his story. ???? But anyway where's the broken nose? he looks fine.
  21. It's disguesting there. Literally bugs on the shelves. As for Foodland - the location sucks - who wants to go grocery shopping in a red light area? just walking there would require crossing paths with ladyboys, African drug dealers, hookers, beggars, etc. But yes I think the main thing is a lot of expats in the area left during Covid and never came back. Tourism in Bangkok never really recovered since.
  22. You'd let your daugher work at a low class karaoke bar/brothel? Some situational awareness is required - she knew where she worked and she literally knew these guys - it's the Swede who seems to have had no idea where he was and what's (in)appropriate there.
  23. Look at all the white knights here praising a guy who paraded around a questionable venue with a 2 baht gold necklace, then interfered in a situation he did not understand*. In any country this could land you in trouble, but in Thailand specifically interfering in Thai-on-Thai matters can easily get you killed. This is not brave - it's just stupid. He could've just called other staff, security, or police. * The full article states that the waitress did in fact know the attackers, and one of them even called her later.
  24. Bingo. The responses here are specifically because he's a young white tourist. They wouldn't say the same **** if he was Thai or even another race tourist.
  25. Just taking a wild guess here- could it be because they're literally everywhere in areas where tourists often are? I doubt there's something special about 7-11's that makes tourists want to smash. ???? Exactly. The guy is either drunk out of his mind or mental issues- point is he didn't actually attack or hurt anyone (that we know of). A simple fine and some compensation for the employees and for the damages caused should be more than enough. It's interesting how easily people on these forums call out "deport" and "jail him" for an offense that back in their home country would probably result in a fine or probation - if that.
