  1. Your mrs can get a license for a .22 hand gun, l understand no bigger. Only problem with that is you must hit the target about six times to stop them, unless it's stuck in their ear hole :D.

    Really!!

  2. Thank you GH.

I am looking at what I consider to be a simple situation.

In the UK there would a maximum of 2 bank deposits, an occupational pension with defined widows benefits. No State pension yet (but I hope to get there eventually).

In Thailand a car, m/cy, condo and bank deposit.

I think that if I can be specific about these assets a UK bank would be able to pay out to my Executor against sight of theWill and Death Cert.

You need two Wills one for the UK and one for your assets in Thailand, and as you want simple write them yourself, just get to know what is required.

Whilst it may appear a simple situation, I believe the comment made by GuestHouse "Having two wills allows both the Thai and UK assets to be transferred independently" is a valid point

I accept that point but I am questioning the practical necessity.

Horses for courses, of course, but I don't see how "one Will" will prevent my UK and Thai estates being dealt with independently. IHT is not an issue and i cannot see any areas where the Will would be challenged.

Please don't misunderstand me, I fully accept there are cases where 2 Wills would be preferable, or even essential, but I don't see it in my case.

As always, I am happy to stand corrected - which is, of course, the purpose of this thread.

  3. That sounds a bit like her Tabian ban, house registration ,and maybe her health card,NO farang is ever allowed to have possession of ANY Thai documents. That is a serious crime. Yes, it is time it was also reported to his Embassy.

I hope I am not thrown in Jail for having a "Yellow Tabien Bahn", Thai Driving License and Thai marraige certificate... all my own and in my name of course. :whistling:

    sorry afarang could not resist!

What you have are given to you by Thailand they are yours and worth nothing (only to you) and easy to aquire, not quite the same!

mmm Thai driving licence.... Allows me to drive totally legally in Thailand. As I found out recently when someone hit me. The insurance company rep was at the scene within 30 minutes taking pictures and filling forms out. He also informed me that it was lucky I had just renewed my 5 year Thai license as if I was driving on my EU or states side license they would not have considered me covered (Class 1 Insurance check your small print in your policy documents guys).

Yellow Tabian Bahn: No embassy letter required to renew my Driving license. Accepted as proof of address in lieu of embassy letter everywhere I have needed it. Saving a few dollars and trip to Bangkok.

Marriage certificate: allows my wife and son to accompany me wherever I work in the world for lots of money!

You are correct all benefits to me :whistling: . All very useful indeed  . Do you have either of the first 2? The only person that I would bow to comments like yours at the end of your post is the guy on this forum who obtained his Thai citizenship in 2007.

This also applies to all my other documents such as passport, home country driving license etc, only useful to me. Guess I should not apply for them either. :whistling::D

However we are all entitled to our opinions and that is the beauty about this forum. :jap:

Anyway :offtopic2: for both of us lets concentrate on the Lady's issues but please do not let this stop you posting as to whether you have those documents.

Yes I have both the documents the Thai driving license I swopped for a IDL and the yellow Tabian Bahn I swopped for a Liverpool football shirt, good eh! and you are right get back to the topic

  5. buy that bike which you like to ride more....resale value is not compensating for riding pleasure- and to me this is all about riding bikes. i would also go for the suzuki 1200 :-)

    mbox

Had a Suzuki gsx 1200 in the uk for 8 years excellent bike, smooth and good to ride can go anywhere in top gear so much engine

  6. When the going gets tough the tough get a quad bike!

If you buy one of those eat lots of spinach like PopEye as the steering is had to turn.

My friend has one and I tried it out as I was thinking of buying one for my wife and I had problems trying to turn it.

    Scrapped that plan right away.

    +1

i had a look at those quads yesterday @ Impact ( yes it is a home and garden exibition but there is a stand showing those too) it really needs a lot of effort to steer...maybe there are other ones too but the one i looked at was hard to steer.

    mbox

Thought they were illegal on thai roads

  8. if you made more than 20k baht per month youD' be abble to afford these

    trailer_regularcoot.jpg

    single-bike-trailer1.jpg

which would not only make you look better, but it would make you safer and it would stop cars from having to swirl in the oposite lane to drive around you.

Sorry I dont need one I will use the pickup

  9. Since i came to phuket i have seen exactly 3 farangs driving them. Funny thing is. 3 farangs in this thread admitted to driving one. Good chances i saw those 3 guys since i doubt many farangs would want to be seen in one of them.

Funny thing is, all 3 of them were old or on very old and cheap motorbikes and definitely not legal. If the 3 of them genuinely liked to ride motorbikes but had loads to move around, they would simply buy something worth more than 1k baht to attach in the back, a tuktuk or one of those steel reinforced samlor that looks like a mini car. or wait even better.. if they were real motorbike enthusiast they'd have a real motorbike.. not a cheap honda wave

Or the few times they had loads they use the car to get them, a car can carry as much as those little crapmobiles.

Always funny when farangs on 20k baht a month tries to make excuses for their weird living.

What you say is maybe true but not sure about the 20k bit and weird living, and yes I am maybe one of the three saling drivers you have seen but dont assume to much I also have three motorbikes, real ones! and I suspect more money than you will ever have! and the Tuk Tuk bit You are well out of touch if you think you can drive one around Phuket.

  10. Yes I can support my claim, and as you have a saling thats taxed and has insurance maybe you can tell us all to which government station you took it to (with the saling attached) or did you as I suspect take it to your local bike test shop who did all the work for you to get it taxed. If you did then your motor bike has tax and insurance, BUT its not registered as a Saling!!! None of them you see in Phuket are, taxed or not. OK

There are LEGAL salaengs in Phuket, let me know if you want to inspect one

Well please tell me in you estimation how many legal Salings there are on Phuket as a percentage then I think you will see that there is an excellent chance that Stevens is illegal. As mine is! And yes I would like to see one, please PM me Thanks

  11. Well if it helps I can tell you that the Saling IS illegal here in Thailand and that if you have an accident (of any kind) it WILL be your fault I can assure you that the police will not even ask the other partys involved any questions, IT will be your fault and you will pay! there is no insurance! Thai or Falang, (and if you are falang you will be in BIG trouble) I know this as a fact!

Thanks. Can you support your claims, or do we just have to believe it because youmclaim it?

  12. looking at one you can not decide if its legal or illegal, neither can police, reg book needs to be checked.

Of the 27 I spotted the other morning, my rough guess is that they were all illegal. The Highway Police or Phuket

Provincial Land Transport Office should be able to answer that question without even checking their records.

I wonder if there is even one that is legally registered here in Phuket and I'm not talking about professional sidecars

    with brakes i.e. HDs etc.

And how did you come to the conclusion they are all illegal? I am wondering, what is illegal about them? Mine gets a new sticker every year plus insurance, is it still illegal?

    Yes its still illegal

  13. Thanks, but that is no answer to any of the questions. You're guessing about legality and you're guessing about the insurance.

Well if it helps I can tell you that the Saling IS illegal here in Thailand and that if you have an accident (of any kind) it WILL be your fault I can assure you that the police will not even ask the other partys involved any questions, IT will be your fault and you will pay! there is no insurance! 14. phuket town has the cheapest and freshest sea food. There's a restaurant 5mins south of boat lagoon, but you have to take lots of small roads, then a boat.. they picck your sea food directly from pits IN the sea.

Also one in the middle of nowhere (couple tour bus stops there, and tons of local thais) with sea and mountain view.. cheapest ive had anywhere in thailand.. highquality cooking

I know the floating one well. Do you have any clear direction or place name to the middle of nowhere one!

  15. What I'm nervous about is if it's under the whole floor. So I can't just scrub it off. I would really like a company to do a test on this.

What do you mean when you say it is UNDER the floor.

It's a wooden floor. But I suspect the whole foundation is humid. There is a pool right outside the room - when I say right outside I mean you step into the pool when you open one of the glass doors in the room. It might be leaking or something. There is water coming up between the joints in the bathroom in that area too. Who should I talk to?

If you have water outside the room then I would suspect that it is at that same level under the floor,

  16. the thai guarantor will have nothing to do with the car in the end (unless you don't pay) You can sell the car without them and the financing is 100% in your name. So, you can use a thai employee, friend, etc if necessary and not have to worry about somehow getting screwed.

What you say is true in a perfect world, but I think you will find that not many Thais. will wish to be your guarantor, its not you they will worry about being screwed!!

  17. I will probably move to Patong or Kata at first since I am alone. The quieter beaches would probably be a little too isolated.

Do many of the thai landlords speak enough english? How much deposit do they generally request?

I am sure you will not be alone for long  where ever you decide to live on Phuket.
