I've had an electric shock many times here - thank god they have a high voltage and low current that hasn't killed me.
Think the stuff that gives you a belt that doesn't kill you is low wattage, lucky it wasn't a kettle or heater, but even low wattage can stop your heart.
Anything in my place with a 2 pin plug now has a 3 pin plug using an earth from chassis of a suspect appliances, but l do have an earthed 3 pin sockets outlets.
When l rented a place, had a washing machine delivered, they set it up, 2 pin plug, fixed an earth to the chassis, banged a nail between the tiles on the floor and wrapped the earth wire round it.
Actually, if you read the OP it was a kettle and a heater!
No it was a kettle on a base, the heating element would be in the kettle.

Visa applications are outsourced, passport applications are not so you will need to visit the British Embassy in Bangkok. Make an appointment.
You have a new baby so whether you are married or not (you haven't said) your child is entitled to a UK passport and although there's quite a bit of paperwork involved it's not difficult.
You need to get a British Birth Certificate before you can apply for the passport. If you don't have one already this will entail two visits to Bangkok: one to register the birth and apply for the birth certificate and another to apply for the passport at the same time you collect the birth certificate. The birth certificate is processed in the UK and the passport in Hong Kong. They courier the passport to you so you won't need a third visit to pick it up.
Agree about getting the Thai passport first.
I take it you are refering to the poster (he will need his birth certificate) not required for the child,

Told by Phuket Honda that the Phantom was not being made now! A friend who works at Honda tells me they are designing a new model. Anybody heard anything.

Probably opening the checking account will be the most difficult. Under the circumstances you describe, probably best to open 2 savings accounts, 1 in your wife's sisters' name, there's no reason why she couldn't have her own account. All the banks offer internet banking, but many use an sms to the account holders (Thai) mobile phone to verify transactions, that might be a problem when your wife returns home (not sure if it's possible to register a non-Thai phone).
Thank you for your prompt and informative reply
You are right two savings accounts can work also,as long as her sister has an ATM debit card. The only reason I thought of a checking account was for the Debit card.
I had not think about the SMS issue, thank you for pointing that out. I don't believe an SMS to verify transactions will be an option, as we are in the USA,and I am not sure if their system will make international calls, or if we will receive them, it will be something that she will have to ask at the bank.
Thank you again
In my OP I forgot to mention that the bank needs to be in Khon Kaen
The sms notification is not a problem, but you (or the wife) will need to be in thailand when you set up the transfer from your ac you will only need to enter the once only number sms to your phone to set the ac transfer in the system after that, not required.
Now Im confused

Maybe I'm missing something here.
Yes Im sure you are.
Well, if you are in Thailand, why translate it to English?
If you are overseas, write "THAILAND" at the bottom and mail the darn thing.
Sorry! yes you are correct, I will shut up and start fishing

Get ready for the new UK government to swing the axe on Disability benefits. Many more interviews and assessment. The last pile of 13 years Labour C**p allowed the wasters to fake and scam. Now if you can talk or write (walking not necessary) you can work.
To claim a benefit you are not legally entltled to in your own country is bad enough but to claim while living overseas is even more shameful. So less " bad mouthing" those who have or would "shop" the criminals
7000 letters out 1.6 Million ish to go ! The airfares should outway the benifits

Don't know what prompted the OP's rant,
Hearsay via his 'thai missus', apparently.
Well worth his feelings of anger and meriting a thread.
He best watch out what else she tells him is the true

Bangkok Bank, when you set up 3rd party a/c all you need is a/c number ( not even sure if you need a name? ), enter that and then they will send OTP ( one time password ) to you mobile. You will then have to enter this number to confirm you want to add that a/c - job done.

Correct was as you say ten days ago

If the issue is about her getting a passport, the Dept.of Foreign Affairs must have some procedure in the event of parent(s) who are deceased, can not be located etc. Is she listed on someone's house registration (Tabien baan) ? If so, maybe that person can assist her in getting a passport.
With regard to locating the father, are there any other relatives who could be enlisted to help ?
I assume she has an ID card thats all she should need for a Passport

Was she previously married before you came along ??.....if so....No Sin Sot...easy
No the question is was she NEW when you married

When passing through the Dubai airport I always see little gold bars. I've thought about buying one or two each time I go through there, but haven't a clue which gold bar would be worth the expense (they have many different kinds...brands?).
Any insight from those of you in the know?
The value is relative to the purity,

Your child will be able to have a British Passport married or not! just make sure that the birth certificate is correct! the hospital well. if you are going to use a Thai. Government one, my advice would be to have the preg. watched over by a Doctor that works there and runs a private clinic connected to it, most have these private clinics and you will have to pay, but well worth it!

You absolutely should not include your pension in your will - doing so can give rise to your pension fund being taxed.
What you should do is contact the trustees of your pension and ask for an expression of wishes form, fill that in and add a letter to your will detailing what assets you have, contacts for the trustees of your pension etc.
I agree entirely. An expression of wish form would only be required if Cardholder is unmarried. If married, the wife automatically receives the widow's pension. This is non negotiable
Would it perhaps be possible to have 2 signed copies of the same will - one for Thailand and one for the UK? This would save the expense of executing 2 wills, and also of obtaining certified copies. Bear in mind also that the will used in Thailand would need to be in Thai script, whereas the one for the UK would have to be written in English
Not so the Thai Will can be in English
