  1. These pic´s might help you to have a cheaper idea´? :D

Hahahaha, love the pics! Though the trailer is a necessity because I can't imagine my dog sitting still for a scooter ride :)

I think Kata's suggestion makes the most sense - a dog trailer of some kind. Thanks everyone!!

My Saling is a honda dream and (sidecar) a metal box steel tube and steel panal sides, stops the children putting fingers in the wheels. Its the best thing that I use here I go to the local shops etc and around the local area. I love it. I made it (go to talk with your local m/c shop) with three bolts onto the bike and a electric plug to the sidecar lights etc. takes 5 mins to remove. A note here make sure the sidecar has lights and indicators front and back (could save your life) makes life interesting mind the Thais, ask if I want to rent a house, would I like to buy a cheap car, nobody offered me their daugther yet, Ah well I wonder why! rolleyes:

  2. Thanks very much for all your replies. Arrivals to LHR were completely out of the question. As KennKate suggested several local travel agents were consulted.

He leaves Sunday 6 evening with Etihad one way at 22,900. Good flight times & short connection.

Should be in hospital by Monday lunch time.

Thank you also for suggestions of websites that will work to book flights originating in LOS.

Hope all go's well, but if he's been in Thailand 20 years he could have a problem with the NHS

  3. Enforce the helmet law. A lot of head injuries are more than likely in those figures. See so many people just coming off their bikes.

Yesterday when I left my mooban, there were 2 police on a motorbike, they were headed the same way as me, once out on the main road 2 motorbikes, drivers not wearing helmets, passed right by the police and they didn't even bat any eye. Apparently the police only enforce the helmet law at check points only?

Have just made a U turn behind a m/c policeman the first oncoming m/c coming the wrong way towards him he stopped, how refreshing :)

  4. Often 'charges' relate to using the access road over private land or using private land to park. Beaches are considered 'private' if there is no public access road.

Yes I understand that! but some of the posts refer to sailing in ! and again, what is this private beach thing then, if they belong to the King, do they or dont they ? :)

  5. This post has been replied to in the Phuket Gazette this week, by a government official, It is not a private beach , BUT some are? now thats interesting if they belong to the king. :)

  6. Seems partly having to do with the fact that overhauls are rather cheap over here.

Not sure on newish Japanese cars, but full overhaul on VW Caravelle auto gearbox = 25,000 Baht.

Top end overhaul of engine (same VW, 5cyl engine) also quoted at 25,000 Baht. To be expected at around 200,000 Km, after which at least another 150 to 200K km before full overhaul...

Do the same on those cars in the West and you'd rather bring the car to the wrecker! Labor intensive job so often not worth doing in the West. Not so in Thailand where the main cost is the spare parts...

You are correct !! thats why you pay so much for second hand cars here in Thailand that service costs are LOW :)

  7. Every year in the US there is a water park where people get sick from the kiddies dropping doogies in the water.................can't imagine the amounts of chemicals this place will need to dump into that water.

I have a water park for you, it's called The Andaman Sea.

Ah now, the Andaman Sea has plenty of dropping and plenty of chemicals. :)

  8. i think you can take red wine it is healthy & good for heart.

I know i am looking like crazy giving you different idea all of a sudden but try it, it is really very good i take red wine every day.

But how much of it do you drink? I had a good friend who thought the same, gave up the beer and onto the red wine, ended up drinking three bottles a night died at 58 with an heart attack. No easy way out of the alcohol problem I think :)

  9. We stayed at the Phuket Naithon Resort 2 years ago in December with our daughter visiting from the US. Really enjoyed the quiet and clean beach. Noticed at the time that there was some heavy duty construction going on just behind the resort area. We're considering returning to that area again this December. Anyone have any recent experience with the Naithon Resort or other resorts in the northern part of Phuket?

The complex to the North end of the beach road that I assume was the constuction you mention is mostly finished and the rest of Naithon appears as it was. :)

  10. What are the current prices for leasing land in Nai Harn / Rawai, does anyone know?

This is for a 3-5 year inital contract, with annual lease payments, and the land is on a good concrete soi (no dirt, no gravel), 90 meters off the main road. Electricity is there, water also provided by owner, centrally located near many shops.

The owner asks about 1500 Baht per Ngaan (400 sqm) per month, 18,000 Baht per year.

(The equivalent per Rai would be 6000 Baht per Rai per month, 72,000 Baht per year.

Is that a reasonable price for the area?

The Thai that come here to work will pay 2000- 3000 Baht per month for a plot of land that they can erect a hut they can live in whilst they stay here, there will be many huts on a Rai, no real sanitation, no water, no roads and no paper work, this should give you something to gauge your costs by. :)

  11. This seems reasonable. Just being a normal foreigner here we have to continually jump through hoops and follow the procedures, good on the government to actually put this in place.

As for woman's rights? Well when did they ever start to worry about that....My wife's Thai and they haven't ever seemed to care about her rights!

Maybe they should look into the products being sold here, perhaps they are tweaked with female hormones. I have no problems with seeing a few beautiful looking ladyboys around but something is definitely wrong here because 1 out of 10 are likely a man. I went to the Central shopping plaza the other day and my family and I just wanted to have a nice visit. Besides the blaring loud music everywhere we kept contently getting harassed by isle sales women

If your post is saying that 1 out of 10 of the Ladyboys you see are men, then I can tell that 9 plus will be men :)

  12. Are you sure it is her Brother ? Unsual for family to react this way :)

    It must be.

He, the "brother" was ever present at the wedding, definitely has the same family name and is always helping around the house.

    Im not convinced yet :D

  13. truely a unique species. The only one which

....straps bomb belts on to kill others of its own species

    .....torture its own

..... and increases the price of a residence according to how crowded and noxious the place is. In other words, the more inhospitable a place, the higher its property cost.

sorry, I just dropped my newly buttered toast face down on the floor. Maybe I should go back to bed and get up again on the other side.

Best watch what you do in bed ! the price of baby milk and nappies are serious in Thailand :)

  14. Go to laem hin and one get one of the longtails to take you to bang id (its the name of a floating restaurant owned by a fishermans co-op) the ride is payed for by restaurant and the food is absolutely superb, fish held in nets under the raft you are sitting on, oysters still in the ocean when you order so you cant get fresher. It is only a 5 minute ride and the food is great, tho price getting up now but still cheap compared with patong seafood restaurants.

Can you tell me where laem hin is, thanks
