There is a "Naturism Beach" on a northern tip of Koh Samui, even I don't know the meaning of "naturism" for that particular beach – Thai-way-of-thinking might be different from my-way-of-thinking – it's in a very deserted area, so might be possible there; Google Earth map HERE.

And Google Street View HERE (if there had been folks, they would be blurred, so don't fear Google Street View)...????

There is also another area on one of the southern beaches that can be quite popular. Access is a bit of a hike but it’s a stunning spot overlooking the 5 islands so that might give you a clue ????

You're right, your post was formed in the manner of a question but it was really just emphasising those alleged efficiency figures.

"so if a first jab of vaccines give say 60% protection that would not make a difference if the recipients were to contract Covid".

I don't really understand what that question means, "not make a difference" to what?

Either way, I've no idea, I'm not a virologist or epidemiologist but my understanding is that the 2-dose vaccines are not considered effective until the second dose has been given, i.e. if there's no 2nd dose, the first dose would be redundant.

You probably need to do some more research before posting then instead of guessing

Thaivisa posters guesses and "recollections" don't count as real stats!

With a two-jab vaccine the effectiveness after the first jab is irrelevant, it could be 0% and it wouldn't matter, it's the second one that completes the inoculation.

If you look closer you will notice it was neither a guess but a question. See the ? At the end.
so if a first jab of vaccines give say 60% protection that would not make a difference if the recipients were to contract Covid.
Or was that just a guess or recollection?

You must fly direct to Phuket. Attached are some examples of airlines doing direct flights. Please note, all flights are subject to change or cancellation. There was talk originally of being able to fly Bangkok and then being escorted to Phuket. But no confirmation of this yet

Is Thai Airways currently flying commercial flights or just scheduled repatriation flights ?

There are reports of people getting infected twice, even getting infected after vaccination, so what resembles herd immunity?

There is merit in what you say. Vaccines are not 100 percent effective. There are plenty of reports from reliable sources of vaccinated individuals contracting the virus to varying degrees of illness. This is not limited to specific brands of vaccine.

The concept of herd immunity is fluid it is not a static percentage of population ie like 70% that is often quoted. There are many variables. The biggest variables are R0 of the virus and the efficacy of the vaccines used. Once the r0 of the virus gets above 4 even  the best vaccines  will require over 90% uptake for herd immunity

The Cabinet has approved 311.6 million baht, from the central fund of the 2021 budget, to enable the Corrections Department to combat the COVID-19 outbreak in prisons and detention centers throughout the country.

Government spokesman, Anucha Burapachaisri, said the amount will be used to buy 100,000 sets of RT PCR COVID-19 test kits, build two field hospitals for critical patients at prisons in Greater Bangkok, build 10 field hospitals for other prisons and detention centers, build and improve quarantine sections at 65 prisons and detention centers throughout the country and buy protective gear for prisons and detention centers.

He said the Corrections Department will also request the antiviral Favipiravir drug from the Ministry of Public Health.

With a population of 311000 in prisons that equates to 1000B a prisoner. See how far that goes

I think they recognise that unlike Oz which has one of the highest incomes per capita in the world and could afford a hard lockdown, Thailand cannot afford it so they have to do the best they can with what they have which is obvious very little for the majority, they also want to open up as soon as possible because they're starting to hurt economically and they fear the trough will become empty and impossible to replenish.Rocks and hard places abound here and must make it very difficult to navigate.Although I do enjoy taking the mickey out of the those in charge it was always going to be tricky for whom ever was running the place as it has been the world over.Oz through hard work has low numbers like Thailand yet is in the same boat as Thailand and like Thailand it can go pair shaped pretty quickly.

I hardly think Australia is in the same boat as Thailand. 9 cases in community. Economy is roaring away.
what do base this comparison on?

Even so. I'm nervous, as I will have done 4 days out of quarantine in Bangkok before I fly....

Leave Bangkok as soon as you finish quarantine.

You don't know how the current situation will evolve in the coming days. Most entertainment venues, bars etc are currently closed in BKK and restaurants only allowed 25% capacity. Its the last place you want to spend any time atm if you are concerned about changing circumstances.

I would be leaving the hotel and getting a cab straight out of Dodge.

You can leave anytime, just hard getting back in....

No you cant, its not that easy. You must apply for and obtain an exemption to travel. Exemptions are generally only granted on compassionate grounds. I doubt a holiday in Phuket would qualify.  Getting back is probably easier than getting out.

“143 or 144”  prisons and overcrowding at 143 of them? Did I read that right?

so in other words, every prison in Thailand is overcrowded, give or take 1 prison that may or may not exist!

According to Wikipedia the prison system was built to accommodate 211k inmates but houses 374k inmates so approximately 75% over capacity
