True.
The bottom line is a retirement visa cannot be converted to a certificate of Residency / Permanent Residency.
How many total years the foreigner held a retirement visa is not relevant in any way.
That's what we keep saying. 55555555

Ubonjoe, thanks for clarifying it was the RED police book.
I agree 'extend' is not the correct work, 5 year address update is more appropriate.
During Covid 19, at the big Chiang Mai police centre they have been quite flexible. My 5 year address update ws due mid August just gone but I was still in Australia.
My Thai son went in with a photocopy of every page and asked it they would take the copies and the fee (800Baht) and mark the update on the appropriate photocopy page.
Answer 'No, but get your father to send the book from Australia and a new photo and bring it in and they would process the update'. All very polite and friendly, cop who handles this at CM always very friendly and courteous.
I sent the RED book by EMS to my son, lucky it get there within about 7 days, son took it in, they rejected the quality of the photo but did the update entry and took the money, gave receipt and said 'bring your father in and a new photo whenever he can get back. During Covid we must be flexible and if there's anything more we can help with please come back and well see if we can help'. As son was leaving the cop said 'tell your father to take care of himself, I want to see him again'.
Great reply; It is the true the officers taking care of my ' blue book ' are very friendly , even funny, too. I just don't recall I had to pay for it.... Maybe getting old??????? I'll know again next August.

Letting somebody pเรร on you does not cause pregnancy. I think he's safe.
As far as telling stories he's been telling whoppers most of his life. Nothing new there
Are you SURE??? 55555

Unfortunately a burning ban announced today untill tomorrow will have absolute 0 effect
it's just hot air (No pun intented)
Thailand needs desperatly a permanent ban on outdoor burning with a REAL enforcement
and fines REALLY paid. Untill then people will continue to die in this unbreathable air
Does that also mean we cannot BBQ anymore, obviously in full respect of distancing, etc....

I have been informed this is true, with conditions. 3 years retirement in a row, zero overstay and in October of year 4 you can apply for Temporary residency paper/permit. It might take up to 1 year for feedback. Only 100 persons from chosen countries will be given residency each year.
Completely IMPOSSIBLE.. As far as I know there are never 100 applicants from each country. The year I applied (1998) there were 3 of my Nationality.

I've got an application currently under review. Do I still have to be at my job before it's finally awarded (assuming that it will be), as is the just on the day that I applied, and they accepted my application? I'm looking to possibly retire prior to notification of the final outcome, should I wait?
From the day I applied to ' In theory acceptance' 1week; Then from then on 4 1/2 years until final approval. During that " under investigation" period the stamp has to be renewed every 6 months... This being said : free and no hassle. Each time CWIO about 10 mins. There is a specific office for PR and hardly ever anyone there....

No
Only a small fine is charged for doing it late. I don't think extend is the correct word for it.
Very good important info for the concerned people...

Yeah, good point. Singapore is miles ahead of Bangkok in land reclamation projects! Bangkok really should build out more in to the sea that surrounds it.
No need, in a few years it will be flood....

When you make a comment like this it says more about you and which segment of society you belong than it does about Thai society in general.
I'll ad an additional comment to the one you commented.. I know ' many 'Th ladies working in bars and 'going' with farangs to go spend the money they make to go to MALE gogo bars......

Most of the ones in Pattaya got the 'Health Massage' signs a long time ago. The blatant sex ones are the Body Massage shops, the rest likely will open.... there are a few in The Middle Ground up Sukhumvit 22 and 24 Bangkok but I expect they would open too.
Indeed, a Sign says it all ..5555

That... would indeed be a good question???? For PR's in that case.
Will they deport you if you don't extend this book?

The red book which you get from the police station in your area has an expiration date which must be extended. First time you get 1 year which you can immediately extend for 5 more years to a total of 6 years, then 5 years every time. It's not the same process as extending a permit to stay at immigration, and no documents needed, but you still have to go to the police station and get the stamp in the red book.
That... would indeed be a good question???? For PR's in that case.

Somebody on a non-immigrant visa/extension is considered a temporary visitor, not a resident.
If immigration talks about "permitted to take up residency" it refers to people with permanent resident status.
Indeed, in your Passport it doesn't say NON-Immigr..... Stamped IMMIGRANT as in PR...

no one is implying its her child. why is it so hard for people to understand the zist.
so i will explain again, some man had sex with some thai woman multiples times and for some reason stopped seeing her. after over 2 decades he finds there is a girl child born after 8months of his last meeting.
this man is not so happy at home, his western wife is surely loving but his kids are rude and dont listen to him, dont respect him.
he gets to know there may be an extra child in thailand and that makes him happy and sad at the same time , atleast he feels the girl child can fill the empty space and if there was no covid she wud probably be studying now. the man in question is rich.
So she can fill an empty space in his heart.... and why not his wallet????? Remorse is expensive. 5555555
