Hence my question what his train of thought was.
Maybe to avoid the type of petty mindedness you've brought to this thread?

I think we have already seen what has actually happened with the embassy opening earlier this week.

Good security move and I've seen it in hotels elsewhere.

You're not answering the question, but whatever.
I can't answer for him as to why he thought it, but he was proved correct. Maybe allegedly being "the worst hit country in Europe - second in the world" isn't such a drawback as you perceive.

I did mark the reason for transfer as being "funds for long term stay in Thailand". I wonder if this changes how they send the funds so that it is coded differently in the account. Normally i state "general living expenses".
From the UK, so different process, but for me this does give the same as you've just experienced with a longer transfer time.

So we're back to square one and my original question; (thanks for the input)
Why did you think you had a better chance of an active embassy in the worst hit country in Europe - second in the world?
Because they announced they were opening - and did.

OK to show insurance/get the fit to fly/permission to enter or whatever, which is what I read it as being for.

Many have running visa services already.
And in many they closed, but acknowledging that you wouldn't have got your unsubtle dig in.

Well it worked, as the Thai Embassy in London opened earlier this week.

correct...hence NOT 99bt 370.71 and how many of us travel with no luggage, as i always do carry on
You'd get 7kg carry on for no extra charge on that flight. A 15kg hold bag would be an extra 355 baht.

To their rehabilitation: they are not the only ones doing such decoy.
Other LCCs (Europe, Germany) also do super promos with one seat per plane or the like.
At least in Europe, they have to use the price including taxes and unavoidable charges in their ads. In the case shown in post 13, the advertised price would be 370.71 baht, not 99 baht.

You should get the cost of the flight back, but don't see that the airline is due you compensation.

That certificate is already mandatory for the next wave of returnees, those being special case foreigners and essential foreigners on Work Permit and those people wont be repatriation flight personnel. As stated on the 28TH May by governmemt media release, the current requirements also will be extended in future.
WP and similar can currently apply for travel on repatriation flights with the required paperwork.

The app has been down for a couple of days now. Website looks to be OK though, but I can't get past the first page which seems a regular occurence, so not sure if linked to the app problems.

Economy class is fully booked, Glasgow-Dubai-Bangkok from July 2 til 17.
It looks like availability is changing as things get updated. I saw something similar to you earlier but availability is now appearing and flights on some days disappearing. Flex tickets only available for now.

Well, it doesn't seem to charge for the utilities when you are using it as a hotel. Am I reading it wrong?
No, but every room is metered which you appeared to doubt.

They must be using the cheapest of ingredients to be selling a sandwich at that price, I will be passing on that!
They're not. The correct prices are in post #1186 (the top of this page for now).

They are welcomed, as tourists.
Yes, to spend money and contribute to the government coffers. That is why they would be encouraged to stay, which is what you asked.

There was an order a few days ago for people with PR or WP, but no date on when this will apply.
BTW, if people with family in Thailand were able to enter soon,
you could be sure that there would be a huge thread about that on this forum !
Sadly those with family are not in the priority list... No date for them yet.
Only Work Permit, not PR, and it applied immediately. However it also mentioned it should be applied for 10 days in advance of planned travel so there's probably no-one taken advantage of it yet.
When it starts, they'll be on repatriation flights, not scheduled services, so the IATA rules will not apply (although most of them still do) and will not be used to deny boarding if the Embassy paperwork is in place.

Thailand has had 3000 odd infections and 53 deaths
How is the UK getting on in that respect ?
Extremely badly, and I'm with you in as much as I wouldn't want to be there (are you British?) but when it comes to potentially breaking the law in a country not known for the hospitality of its prisons or reluctantly making the decision to head home, the former seems much more adviseable.
That appears to be the options going by your OP.
QuoteIf Thailand doesn't open its land borders or relax entry requirement at airports/land borders and if most other Countries in the World keep refusing entry to foreigners , looks like I will have to fly home before July 31st .
Is anyone else in a similar situation , (there must be 1000's of us) and what are your exit plans ?

Wasn't that advice issued in February /March when airlines were stopping their flights and World borders closing and the Gov were concerned about citizens getting stranded abroad?
Isnt the UK currently under lock-down and Brits being told/asked/forced to stay at home and only essential travelling permitted ?
23rd March and still in place now.
Pretty much, some slight relaxation of rules happening now.

The whole World is effected by the pandemic , the message from all Governments is asking/telling/forcing people to stay where they are , stay where you are and not to travel unnecessarily , should I ignore all that "advice" , putting myself and others at risk , and continue travelling around ?
I may have missed where you're from, but the UK government is telling its citizens:
QuoteIf you live in the UK and are currently travelling abroad, you are strongly advised to return now, where and while there are still commercial routes available.

Also Qatar to Doha then on to USA and one of the Japanese airlines (JAL or ANA) through Tokyo.
Look at BKK airport live departures board online and you'll see them, and bear in mind not all are daily flights.

They of course do this (as I did, once upon a time) to avoid tax in their home country, and do not pay income tax on earnings while de-facto living in Thailand on 30-day stamps.
Why would a government encourage or incentivise tax avoiders to stay in their country?
When they're here they spend like crazy as they've been locked up, unable to spend for 2, 3, 4 weeks or whatever. Every baht they spend contributes in VAT, and often other Government duty or import taxes or something similar that ends up in the government's pocket. Contributors like these should be welcomed by the government IMO.

I did get a text one night to say that my local bar was opening to "invited guests". Luckily I didn't accept the offer as it was raided, everyone arrested and fined 2k baht.
They were lucky - I've heard of large bail payments made and court cases awaited. Still not difficult to find somewhere open if you look around.
Impossible to apply for a tourist visa online
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

He may be referring to Step 2 where it is an option. From your other post, I think you are referring to Step 3. Does your passport scan appear to import correctly?
