Another unrealistic Thai person in a place of authority that has tunnel vision and no idea what the attraction Thailand is to foreigners. The mixture of upmarket & budget hotels, restaurants and bars sort of caters to a wide cross section of tourists so take out the bars and nightlife and you will loose the vibe that people often come here for. Tourists generally don't come to Thailand for high end shopping sprees, they come for fun and whilst I rarely partake in the bar scene I see these venues as critical for Thai tourism now and in the future. This sector also employs many Thai staff and yes often supports working girls etc etc. Virtually every tourist orientated country I have visited has a bar scene but few as fun as Thailand.

What is this guy smoking, unbelievable. Sure no country wants foreign criminals but given the state of Thai offenders not prosecuted for whatever reasons I strongly suggest cleaning up the backyard first starting with corrupt officials. Foreigners see what's going on in Thailand with officials so try their luck, they would never do this in Singapore!!!

Immigration Want 20k. Again
paul1804 replied to Grayo46's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Why does the PM allow these corrupt practices to be common place with Immigration officials??? Don't they see that this leads to Thailand being globally known as another corrupt south East Asian nation!! -
Well I hope the Swiss guy has a good legal team as he will need it. It seems like there maybe was some connection between the wife and the deceased as we are hearing conflicting stories. But we need to remember we are in the LOS. Amazing that the Police are charging the deceased, how can they as he is DEAD or have they overlooked this factor! Like some other comments, I feel maybe the plan back fired and the wrong person ended up dead but we probably will never know!

Samui Plus attracts 38.7 million baht in two months
paul1804 replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
You seem to forget that lots of people work in tourism on Koh Samui and that's what puts food on their table for them and their children!! , yes there may be more rubbish on the beach when tourists come but thats for 2 reasons, firstly there are no rubbish bins in public places and the authorities do a poor job of collection which doesnt help. The dirtiest parts of the beaches are those where the local fisherman hang out, it is dismal that the local authorities do not police these ares or educate the people to be more mindful of keeping the place clean & rubbish free. Impose fines for those that litter by making them do community work as punishment, also I don't believe the tourists are the biggest offenders!!!! -

All these posts making predictions & assumptions, pretty silly unless you know the facts isn't it??? -
Does anyone know where my Thai wife can get a Pfizer or Moderna shot in Samui, I know Moderna is coming but she missed out on registering at Bangkok Hospital here due to over subscription!!! They have Pfizer at Samui Hospital but will only vaccinate Farangs!

The problem is that the authorities including TAT do not see or understand the bigger picture, yes we need to control Covid which may mean lock downs & bans etc etc when applicable. I have a restaurant in Koh Samui and we have had an alcohol ban in restaurants for the last few months, we have very little Covid here and the majority of the population are double vaccinated. Yet the authorities still impose an alcohol ban in restaurants which is a senseless exercise, all it does is further erode the few sales we have and means we still have staff laid off. It is small things like this that compound on a bad situation yet the people in decision making positions either don't care, have no foresight or lack intelligence therefore should not hold the positions they do. What is the difference between Samui and Phuket except we have lower covid infections by % and are much smaller in terms of population therefore easier to control & police! This is a typical reason why confidence is at an all time low yet will be completely overlooked because I believe they just don't care! It really is not rocket science!!!

Restaurant kitchen and waste disposal standards are bad enough here without issuing restaurant licensess to premisses that don't have the basic infrastructure needed in a restaurant. Just walk along Bophut beach after a big tide and see all the blue waste pipes running straight into the sea. Its a bloody disgrace!!!

Thailand’s new tourism promotional slogan for next year unveiled
paul1804 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Thats unbelievable, what are they thinking? Noooo they are not thinking!!! Obviously they need a new marketing person because that picture is nothing different from a thousand other beaches around the planet and portrays nothing of the fun things that Thailand has to offer. Shame about all the current red tape and silly visa requirements that turn lots of people away but hopefully one day they will get someone in a position of power who has an open mind, common sense and shows some foresight!!! -
And what about Koh Samui, we have far less covid cases here, we are supposed to be adopting the Phuket Sand Box scenario after a poorly thought through Samui plus was completely ineffective and therefore a disaster! Why are the current administrators so backward in seeing the bigger picture, alcohol in restaurants is not a covid liability and never was! All the outbreaks are in construction camps, enclosed clubs etc etc don't they see this??? It just a few more nails in The Coffin for us business owners, the employees, market sellers and all those related to the tourism & supporting industries.
