Finance Ministry Moves to Introduce 7% VAT on Inexpensive Imported Items
Dan O replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yep but you have to start somewhere and all the corruption has been decades in tge making and will not be stopped a just a few years. Things started to change in some areas during covid and sign of change are all around, much to tge dismay of the older expat community that's wants the freedom of the past without the cost but constantly complain about infrastructure or changes to lifestyle. Can't have both unfortunately. -

Well you do need money to run a country on dont you? Im betting your home countries charges taxes of various tyoes to support infrastructure?? This area (lack of financial collection) is one of the bigger problems the country has outside of all the corruption. Departments don't talk to each other and departmemtal budgeting gets no post use scrutiny and are run as feifdoms. The dependence on tourism alone doesnt work as covid proved as will any future global crisis and inflation. As much as everyone likes to bash the current PM at least he has been out initiating business agreements and promoting the country for industries outside the country, unlike most of the past PM's and certainly the last govt. China provides so much of the low cost products and skates away without paying tax on it. They get the preferentially treatment on mail going to the USA who subsidizes their transportation creating unfair advantage against local industry using postal delivery systems. Its a more complicated world we live in and to continue as a desired destination they need to improve infrastructure as other destination countries are and have. Hopefully the money goes to where its suppose to go in the end. -

Tourist Visa to USA for Thai GF
Dan O replied to trav2021's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
Very solid advice here and accurate. If you mention anything about you being her boyfriend there that is the death toll on most all denials in similar circumstances. -
You should never try to use an agent to get a US visa as it is not possible regardless of what you may read or here, but you know that now. They best an agent can do is help fille out the paperwork and double check it to make sure you have all the correct document but all that is available on line for free but that is all. They can not submit or apply for a visa for you.

My life style is excellent and I have no issues with my lifestyle. You seem to be the lost soul in search of a purpose but news flash, your opinion is yours to own and live with and others may have a different and more accurate one they live by. You have a good day and don't forget your nap, hopefully you'll feel better after you wake up, maybe not -

So you think he would be a good PM? I guess you don't know much about his past or his views of foreigners in general. -
90 year women gets hit a killed crossing the road
Dan O replied to NorthernRyland's topic in General Topics
Not sure what you talking nonsense about trying to deflect from facts, but you seem to do that when people don't agree. then you try to play the Thai bashing card. Plenty of foreigners do stupid <deleted> here too. I never said anything about never crossing the street. I said it doesn't seem to matter when or where you cross at, thais are terrible drivers that don't follow rules of the road , signs or traffic lights or honor crosswalks on a regular basis, fact not bashing. I live here and see it everyday and its in the news regularly. Come out to the real world and see it and read the news. In the mean time stick you head back in the sand or anywhere else you like. -

How many news articles have there been every month where a motorist mows down a pedestrian at a cross walk where they have the right of way and traffic has a red light? It just doesn't work here. Should she have been at a corner or in a valid crosswalk yeah but when drivers have no spatial awareness of the consequences of their actions it doeant matter. -

I never said anything about being aliens or from another star. People migrated everywhere in the world so they all came from another place on the planet at some point. -
Family Demands 10m Baht Following Fatal Fall in Bangkok

Thats the real problem they dont think ahead on almost any issue thats a problem. When there's little to no accountability or acceptance of fault there's no reason to change anything -

Its certainly a very lame excuse as usual about situation like this. But I agree that MEA having stated that the steel cover(s) were stolen so they replaced them with wood is a clear admission they knew the problem existed and were aware of the situation, not that it means much in the long run. They will try to find a culprit to blame the theft and then shift the financial blame and responsibility to them. My money is you wont hear about this story in the news again -
Shinawatra Family Lawyer Appointed as Cabinet Minister Amid Controversy
Dan O replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"Pichit maintains that his sentence was due to court order and not a conviction, hence it's not an actual criminal offence. He was among the 13 new cabinet ministers sworn in before King Vajiralongkorn, led by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin. In 2008, Pichit and two other lawyers were charged with attempting to bribe court officials while representing ex-prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra in a corruption case. Upon completing their sentences" Gotta love the word play here in this country. a conviction with a sentence from the courts and loss of law license doesnt count because it was a not a real criminal offense????? Dont all convictions or acquittals result in a court order of some type? -
