Has Thailand Caught Up with the 21st Century?
fredwiggy replied to SoCal1990's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Of course the USA. I lived there 62 years and only moved here because of my daughter, and my ex didn't want to leave from here, although she hates where she's living now, and always has. Takes time to re establish back home again. Again, I know some like living in SE Asia, because it has what they like. If you have children, there are much better places to live, especially regarding females. -

If you haven't noticed how women here are treated yet, you may never . This is a Buddhist country, and Buddhism already looks at women as inferior, at least still now. Change may come but when? I always treat my woman well, although it hasn't always been reciprocated. I tell things exactly how they are. That photo was in response to another . The way children are treated here is one reason I posted that photo. It shows a complete lack of concern for their safety, and the 10 road deaths daily of children bolsters that statement. It doesn't have anything to do with how I feel about this country. Some have a good time here but many are just tolerating what goes on because they rarely leave their villages and are content with what they have. I know for certain many pick up or increase their alcohol consumption here, just as they do in the Midwest in the US, along with drug use. You can drink anywhere and be content, especially if you have a younger partner that's attractive. If it wasn't for that, I'm sure most wouldn't stay here besides the ones who stay single for just that reason. I knew about this country long before I moved here, and the only reason I did was because at that time my ex didn't want to move to the US, and I wasn't about to leave my daughter here with them. -

That's all they have near where I live, and she's only 8 so the learning here isn't that important yet, but will be soon. She has to be in the US before she's 10 to keep up with the curriculum there without being behind. -

The same as I can say I never saw any crime with guns or knives living in the US for 62 years. It's a big country and if you stay in the village most of the time, you won't see much of anything, and going by news here only shows a fraction of what goes on here daily. It does show a lot though. You can get a bidet or bum gun anywhere, but we get along fine without them in the west. My power is definitely a problem here, PEA, and some have little to none in other areas, so it's the local place where I live that needs work. Some roads around here have always had problems. They fix them when it's not necessary and don't when they need to. Potholes spring up a month after they work on the road, so that's poor maintenance and ability. I've talked to a few other foreigners here who also have trouble with their power source, so it's definitely random. -
Banged up: Thai prison nightmare exposed by British tourist

The problem there is that some who have minor offenses are put in with monsters. Being locked up and not enjoying freedom is a hard thing. It doesn't have to be inhumane. -

Have you ever stayed in prison in the US? I've had friends stay there, sleeping in rooms with no air, stifling, cheap blankets. Not what you'd think. Of course more hospitable than here, but not a bed of roses. -
Before you drive for the first time in LOS

Daily, all day long, especially with the scooter habits. They never look behind them or seem to use mirrors.Trust no one is what I tell my girlfriend, because they will do things you wouldn't think a person would. Looking right at you they'll pull out in front of you while you have the right of way, and coming towards you, passing someone, they expect you to pull to your left and slow down, thinking going into your lane gives them the right of way. -
Has Thailand Caught Up with the 21st Century?

Of course, because many live in country areas like I do. I saw it this week, and almost every time I leave during student transfer times I see it, along with buses that are extremely overcrowded. I've been here over 6 years and have seen it many times where they're riding on the top. Just a couple months ago there was an accident shown here where the bus toppled because the driver took a turn too fast and the kids went flying. Thankfully no deaths but many injuries. That's only one incident as all the news countrywide doesn't make the locals. -

I'm talking about normal night life and not prostitution, which you can get in all major cities worldwide. Prostitution is illegal in most western areas with some exceptions because morality is higher and more stringent. Thai music is okay, but when they try to copy western, the lyrics do not flow like they do with western music, if you know what I mean by that. They copy, but it doesn't match. Thai original music sounds good. You can't compare Thai music with western, as western, meaning from the US and Europe, is and will always be the best. -

Like I said, I see it weekly here. This isn't the big cities we're talking about but country areas, which is most of the land mass and population. -

Everything you see here originated somewhere else besides Thai food, and you can get just as good Thai food in many places in the west, with better sanitary conditions. Bar scenes came out of all large cities, and what you see here is copied from the west, meaning pop music, instrumentation and song styles. -

Look up stats on Wikipedia about crime here. Most of it you'll never hear about on local news. -

You have to live in the west longer to observe what goes on there, and not just go by videos. -

I am leaving and largely because of want for a better life for my daughter. Women here are considered inferior, and that isn't what a woman deserves. This I see weekly and have in many areas............ -

I've never had sex with anyone that wasn't attractive and slim, and neither has anyone I know in the US. No charges either. -

The higher level corruption here you will never see, as well as in other countries. Police forces in the west do have problems but they have internal affairs which catch most of them, and the police are prosecuted if they step over the line. -

Everything that is fun originated in the west, from movies, beachlife, modern travel, food choices, night life, and music, which is the best worldwide and always will be. -
Has Thailand Caught Up with the 21st Century?

Every convenience used here has it's origin in the west. That means it's still far more advanced there. What is lacking is the obvious, and some mentioned. Corruption is always going to be higher in poorer countries. Money means a lot more and many more will do whatever it takes to get it. How they treat their children and animals here pales by comparing it to the west. Look at the buses children have to ride on daily here. Nowhere would that happen in the west, especially seeing 12 sitting on the top of the buses. Deaths and injuries waiting to happen. The road deaths here are among the worse worldwide, and it will be a long time before that ever changes. Animals are considered cute as puppies and kittens but largely forgotten after they get older, and allowed to roam free, multiplying and making many problems countrywide. Wifi is not good all over and neither is the power supplies. Look at the wiring above ground, where people get electrocuted monthly here. Power goes out all the time in many places, something that usually only happens during storms in the west happens all the time in some places where competence and maintenance are weak. Human trafficking is a huge problem that isn't being punished as it should be. There are nice places to visit here but tourists are targets on the islands and elsewhere. Road maintenance is terrible on secondary roads and holes in city areas where people fall in weekly. Dirty water abounds and you need to drink the water from the jugs if you don't want to take a chance on water borne diseases like H Pylori, which is more common here than in the west. Crime is as widespread as anywhere on earth, especially with knives and machetes, and punishment is lacking, which means crime will keep increasing. Intentional homicides are higher than most places in the west. There is illegal immigration and working here as well as in the west, and many here are slaves, trafficked on fishing boats and in prostitution. So, it hasn't caught up with the west and will be many decades before it ever would be. If it wasn't for adopting western practices and ideals, this would still be cave man living. -
PVC is used to protect wires outside, mostly from the weather but it works, as I had dogs chew my incoming and cut the power off twice until I had PVC put around wires outside.

What did you have for breakfast today?(2025)

I know, but it does taste good on burgers. I prefer real cheese also, like Emmenthaler or Vermont Cheddar on burgers, but if it's not available...... -

Bangkok Urges Work from Home Amid Severe Air Pollution Threat
fredwiggy replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Rice is what Thailand and most of Asia is all about, a staple the people need to survive. Importing it to a poor country is impossible for them. Much of Thailand is rice fields and growing your own is a lot cheaper than buying from others, especially importing. What needs to be done is doing with the chaff what others have done instead of burning it., composting and using it to fertilize.- 40 replies

Study Rings Alarm: Thai Children Face Rising Obesity Crisis
fredwiggy replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Generations of parents have failed at teaching their children healthy eating, and the result is the obesity and overweight percentages now. Kids mirror what their parents do until peers show them another side, but habits learned from birth to teen age are ingrained and don't go away. -
Study Rings Alarm: Thai Children Face Rising Obesity Crisis
fredwiggy replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Children should be taught at home first, about everything necessary for life. Schools should follow up on this because many parents don't know, or don't care about nutrition for themselves or their families. With many single parent families worldwide, the situation is harder because one parent might be into healthy living while the other eats whatever they want without concerns, and the kids like sugar so you know what wins out. Stores and companies know sugar sells more food, and since they are only into it for profit, they put more into the food than is necessary, because people get addicted to sweets. The problem with all of this is the obesity level has been increasing everywhere, along with SE Asia. In my own life, I eat healthy almost 100% of the time, with only an occasional cheat. This I've shown to all my children, including the 8 year old here. The other side, where my daughter also lives, gives her snacks a lot, because they also eat them and don't understand, nor care, what that does to a child's thinking.
