Now thats something i am not familiar with !

    I will look into this.

    Thanks

Before you actually port the number, simply ask for your MNP code, stating that your reason is that you want an unlimited data deal, such as 4 Mbps/10 Mbps with calls for 150/200 baht and the only way you can do it, is by porting the number and applying one of the new SIM promos. This often spurs them into offering you such a pack...soon enough.

Requesting an MNP code does not change your number. You have to actually give it to the other network for it to be any use. It expires after thirty days.

Does this one include unlimited 15 minute max  phone calls to all carriers?

Bear in mind that the code is for existing Truemove H. The 10 Mbps variation should also work. There is also an option to add unlimited calls to the package for 50 baht per month, though I haven't checked if the code still works.

Though there is another option to apply a similar pack with unlimited any network calls, to Truemove H SIM more than a year old; 165 baht for 4 Mbps with free calls and 220 baht for 10 Mbps with free calls.

    New SIM have more options.

It's my policy to not share codes and links with certain characters on the board, so you'll need to talk to vendors direct to get the Truemove H deal.

OK so I have a Ais sim card and have been paying 450 baht a month for unlimited 2gb

    It's absolute dog <deleted>

I have a lazada special dtac 20gb unlimited sim cost about 1700 baht for the year and is so much better which I use in an old phone as a hotspot in the house.

My question is how can I get a cheap package like a Lazada special without having to change my phone number each time.?

Port your number to another network and apply a promo pack to the newly ported SIM.

some are outperforming whites, ie Chinese and Asians, blacks are underperforming. The usual excuses are poverty and racism of course, but if that were true the other minorities who do better would be affected. Citing the real reason for this can barely be mentioned of course, people do not want to admit the cause. Nobody hates or is afraid of immigrants doing well, it's the low life's, underachievers, criminals and feckless fathers that are the cause for concern.

Blacks?! Do you even have a brain in your head? When I see the way that you guys express yourselves, I feel only pity.

Nobody hates immigrants doing well? Really? I beg to differ. Try being a black person and driving around in an expensive car.

Ignorant racist nonsense, as is usual.

You do know that Chinese are Asians too don't you? You do know that Black people aren't all the same, don't you? All of the black people I know have a standard of education that would put you to shame.

I agree, but I can't change the past. I will open an account with Wise and try transferring some smaller amounts first, just to see how it works.

It's worth knowing that the WISE web interface limits you to 2,000,000 baht per transfer.

You can enquire as to whether it's something you can bypass or whether you'll have to make multiple transfers.

As an aside, ANZ might also use a correspondent bank which can add to the charges when you do ANZ - SCB.

You may be right, it was quite some time ago I looked at WISE's fees. Perhaps they dropped them in the interim.

No...you just didn't understand at the time. I remember explaining it all before. But to older heads who were used to certain ways of doing things, it's sometimes difficult to grasp.

The bank offers you a lower rate and says "look, no commission". Not transparent, as their commission is hidden in the poorer rate.

Whereas the new services give you the full mid-market rate and take a transparent commission.

I have always done my transfers online with ANZ, limited to $10K at a time, which is all I needed to top up living expenses. That was the most convenient way for me as I only had to do it a few times a year. The exchange rate I got was whatever SCB gave me on the day, I didn't worry too much about it. This time I'm transferring a lot more than $10K, so the rate became a lot more important.

That's still AU$450+ you chucked in the bin each time.

When I checked out WISE, from memory it was the fees charged up front that killed the deal for me.

IIRC, it's a commission, the more that is transferred, the bigger the commission.

"After all fees" is the critical phrase.

Not much point to getting a better exchange rate if the fees are in excess of that.

No. That's you being terrible at maths.

That is why I quoted both after all fees. The actual exchange rate for WISE is something like 24.64.

Whereas SCB rate is around 24.19.

So transfer AU$1000 and that's 450 baht(AU$18.27) more than going via the bank.....But wait. The bank(ANZ) charges you another AU$32 to send the money, so that now a AU$50.27 loss. WISE fee is AU$7.47.

So you would get AU$42.80 more via WISE. But wait.... SCB has another fee; 0.25% up to 500 baht. So that's another AU$2.50.

So with WISE, you are AU$45.30 better off on a AU$1000 transfer today.

I don't know if this helps.

I transfer AUD by telegraphic transfer, get charged $30 by ANZ irrespective of amount.

Bangkok Bank gives me the baht equivalent about 0.5 baht below the cross rate shown on sites such as xe.com, i.e if the cross rate is 24.8 baht for one AUD, I'll get 24.3.

Do not transfer with what is called dynamic currency conversion, it's highway robbery.

I would suggest transferring a smaller amount first, to see what conversion rate you get.

Wise seems a better fit, unless it's for retirement funds that need a certain routing.

For example AU$10,000 transferred with WISE today with net you a rate of 24.479183 after all fees.

AU$10,000 via ANZ - SCB will net you a rate of less than 24.11867625 today.

    More than 3600 baht lost.

As other have mentioned, under a month stay, airbnb is technically illegal. Also who is going to run it ? you need someone to check guests in/out, someone to clean it, wash linen etc, do TM30s ? By the time you pay airbnb, wages, electricity, utilities, moobaan fees, company fees etc, you probably need to charge 1,000 a night just to break even, (presuming 100% occupancy). People can get a pretty nice hotel for that price, with all the trimmings, with daily room clean etc.

You can grab your dream retirement villa, and put a long term tenant in (6 month plus), help cover the outgoings on the property, keep it maintained, maybe even realize a small profit. But 5 years from now, you can probably buy the same property, for the same price, without the rental hassle.

Villas/houses (affordable ones) dont really exist west of Sukhumvit road in the tourist area, so any villa/house is only going to attract long term rental

There are lots of 'villas/houses' west of Sukhumvit. I don't know why you imagine otherwise. They perhaps aren't sitting on Beach road or Soi Bua Khao.

Though I agree with you in exercising caution. High expectations can lead to disappointment.

I know someone who was doing the same, in Jomtien. They weren't achieving the figures they imagined.

Yes.  But I'm just now learning about esims now too and how to get my next data package via esim instead of Sim card (because my iphone only has one port and I lose my number then).

It doesn't affect how you apply a data pack. It just means that you cannot buy the annual prepaid packs via Lazada et al; though you can buy them direct from the network.

    https://www.dtac.co.th/en/new-number/esim

But you can still apply the promo monthly packs in one way or another.

The trouble is I have no idea how to do what you're writing about. I just want something I can plug into the phone line and then forget about.

A SIM card. 50 baht from your local 7-11/Family Mart. Top up with a couple of hundred baht, tap in a code on the phone keyboard to apply an Internet pack and there you are; an alternative to your failing 3BB package.

If you don't currently own a Smartphone, you can place the SIM card into one of these specially designed routers; https://www.lazada.co.th/products/dwr-m920-d-link-wireless-n300-4g-lte-router-by-vnix-group-i794564720-s1593010653.html

You slide the SIM card into a special slot on the router. It uses the data pack on the SIM to create a WIFi signal that you can connect to with any and all of your devices; up to 32 of them. You can also plug an Ethernet cable in for a wired connection if you choose.

The data pack on the SIM supplies unlimited data, so no worries about the cost. 200 baht will get you unlimited usage for a month. You can prepay for a whole 12 months of usage from as little as 1200 baht(100 baht per month).

This way you have a back up system should your land based connection fail.
