Got a DTAC happy sim at the 7-11 and managed 2mbit in Jomtien beach. Unless theres something restricting the speed, it very slow.

Is the 20mbit AIS for 300thb the next best option? Available instore i hope, or another Lazada order?

    thanks

Please read the written answers already given. No point in just repeating the same thing. ????

Go back and read every post. The answers are all there.

As an aside, when I resided in Jomtien, near the beach, I got the full 20 Mbps with DTAC; even better than AIS.

What phone do you use for testing?

Let's see a screenshot of the speedtest.

It would be available at DTAC outlets, most phone shops and 7/11s carry various sim cards.

There is usually nothing special about the actual Sim, its the package you activate.

A sim from mail or lazada etc will probably require a visit to a shop to show ID and register

    Wrong on every count.

The 12 month SIM is a specific SIM with the package already applied and it's not available at 7-11.

    https://www.dtac.co.th/prepaid/products/ready-sim.html

No need to visit a shop to register as it can be done online.

The dtac 1390 thb sim, is it available in the shop? And likewise with the dtac/ais/true 10mbit unlimited for 300, do i need to mail order them?

You can order from DTAC; but it's 1600 to 1890 baht(which is the price on the pack). You can call beforehand to see if they have any in stock. .But you are strongly advised to buy a 50 baht SIM to run a speed-test before committing to a 12 month SIM. You've left it a bit late. If the 50 baht SIM can reach 20 Mbps at your place, then spring for the 12 month and then uprate the speed from 10 to 20 Mbps. Service centre can do it for you; but you have just three days. You had this info ten days ago.

For the monthly options, it's just a matter of going to a service centre, buying a new SIM, topping up and applying the package. Service or call centre should be able to apply it for you. But hurry up, promo is due to end this month.

The code for uprating and more details of the offer can be seen on their official sites: https://www.lazada.co.th/shop/dtac-office

You can use a Roku device in Thailand to access home country content like that from the U.S.   But it requires having a Roku account based in that home country, and then, having a VPN-capable router like many made by ASUS where it can provide a VPN IP via wifi to the Roku device.

Android TV boxes and Amazon Fire Tv devices are nice because both pretty much have available a full array of apps for most of the major paid VPN providers that you can install and use on those devices. But Roku doesn't allow for on-device VPN apps, so you have to go the VPN router route or a DNS redirect service.

You should have quoted giddyup rather than myself, as he is the one who needs the info.

The DNS service would still need you to configure the router to block Google DNS

Forget Roku in Thailand. I bought a Roku from Amazon and it is useless here, the few channels like Youtube that it provides I can get on my Smart TV anyway, and the rest are rubbish.

I could have told you that it would not work for you...

But there is still a lot of stuff that you can do for free and that includes IPTV.

Though I don't intend to go into that with you.

Monthly there is Truemove H and DTAC at 300 baht & 299 baht respectively.

AIS too at 300 baht; but only in these provinces: 1.Bangkok 2.Chiang Mai 3. Chiang Rai 4. Chanthaburi 5. Tak 6. Phuket 7. Chonburi 8. Pathum Thani 9. Rayong 10. Chumphon 11. Nakhon Si Thammarat 12. Lopburi 13. Nakhon Ratchasima 14. Nonthaburi 15. Samut Prakan.

Buy a 50 baht SIM first  and run a speed test to see if you can achieve 20 Mbps or anything close, at your location. If can, then apply the 20 Mbps package. If you can only receive 10 Mbps, then apply the 10 Mbps package or try the other network SIM and repeat.

Cheapest method is to buy a 12 month DTAC 10 Mbps SIM for around 1390 baht. and if you can achieve 20 Mbps with them, uprate to 20 Mbps for another 120 baht. 125 baht per month as compared to 299 baht.

The monthly option renews itself until six months is up; then you can request to renew if available. This again makes the 12 month package more attractive to long stayers.

Just a correction in that the AIS offer is for 15 Mbps.

It's just struck me that the reason the 2br units cost more than 2 x 1 br units is because they're at the front of the building so you get a full 180 degree sea view from your balcony rather than being able to see the sea from the side of your balcony (if you know what I mean)...

Wongamat is a nice place, figure we'll do a couple of years here & then check out living somewhere else (Maybe Surat Thani, don't quite fancy living on an Island but do enjoy being close to the sea)

I did the island thing; but got bored of seeing the same things every day. So settled for city and beach, as one can more easily travel around.

The two bedroom unit that I described is at the front of the building and is still only 25% more in price than the studio.

Though different building. 2 bedroom/ 2 bathroom is in a low rise building; though still more than double the square metre size of the studio, at around 120 to 140 square metres. Price was stated at 30k. I offered 20k and it was accepted.

Perhaps you are referring to a specific building, rather than generally.

Wongamat has generally avoided the homeless camp feel that you have with the main resort areas.

Sorry, I was including the Condo driveway which accounts for at least 1/2 of that ????

Yeah, the Tops Daily doesn't offer much variety (looks like the 2nd Family Mart opposite Wongamat Towers might turn into 1) but I have to confess that 1 of my secret vices is a couple of the 7/11 cheese toasties for breakfast & a few 330ml bottles of Budweiser (but not for breakfast) every now & again...

    I know... I know, how can I call myself a Brit ????

Condo driveway?? You must be on the wrong side of the road ????

You are a Brit? In that case I'll take it easy on you ????

    It's a good area.

Sure Studios are cheaper but having spent decades living in hotels when working away on projects I need at least 1 wall between the bedroom & living room...

My experience was 1BR were going for 15K (IIRC Studios were about 9K) & 2br for 35K (though I got 20% knocked off this price).

Depends where you are looking/living. It clearly wasn't 9k for the studio in question. When I write about beachfront, I mean absolute beachfront. Not back of building or partial sea-view, but front and centre.

I didn't refer to studios being cheaper, but the difference in the cost between the studio and the 2 bedroom. Definitely not more than double.

I have no idea as to how you got from that to "studios are cheaper".

I am comparing apples with apples. Beachfront large studio, Beachfront large 2 bedroom. Definitely not double the price; even at the advertised prices.

As with anything YMMV. I have quite specific criteria.

I was joking but yes I would have preferred it if we had 1 Family Mart & 1 7-11 instead of the 2 Family Marts.... Good news is I went past the bigger of the 2 7/11s yesterday & it looks like there's some activity going on so hopefully will re-open soon.

Actually we discussed at length the fact that there were no supermarkets around but the alternative would be to live in Central Pattaya so we felt the trade off of taking a taxi a couple of times a week to do grocery shopping (most stuff you can order online but I don't like to buy meat, fruit or veggies without choosing it myself) was worth it.

Have to admit that we were spoiled living in On Nut as we had a Tops next door, a big Tesco Lotus across the road & a large Big C a 5 minute walk away.... But didn't have a beach 100m away

100 metres??!! Are you living in the jungle? ????

I guess the TOPS Daily nearby doesn't offer anything much different.

Reasonably sure I know where you mean & if I'm right it's a very nice area so 9.5K for a 1br is a very good price there.

I always go for 2br units as (pre-covid) my parents come out to stay with me for at least 1 month every year so I need a br for them sleep in (more accurartely I'm shunted into the spare room).

As an aside, one of the strange things I've noticed about condos in Thailand is that a 2br unit costs more than twice what a 1br unit costs so I told the GF to try to find us 2 x 1br units (ideally on different floors ????) when we were looking for a new place.

If/When you do move out of Bangkok, can highly recommend the Wongamat area, it's very quiet (don't live here if you want/need a lot of bars) but 60THB/15 mins in a Bolt Taxi & you're at Central Festival in the middle of Pattaya.

I didn't find that. I narrowed my choices down to a 2 bedroom beachfront apartment and a beachfront studio. The prices were just 5k apart. Though the advertised prices were 10k apart.

Whilst I agree with you interms of rarely needing to use the BTS,  the fact that you're near a BTS station means that you're close to restaurants/bars/shopping centers etc... as these tend to spring up  around the stations so you don't need it (I could go months where the only times I went up the BTS steps were to get to the Tesco Lotus superstore on the other side of the road).

I did have a conversation with the GF about the fact that we were probably paying a 5K premium pm to be so close to the BTS & we hardly ever used it but when we looked at new condos around Bangkok we decided we still needed to be within 500m of a BTS or MRT station to have everything we needed on our doorstep.

Now I've moved to Wongamat I take Bolt Taxis everywhere (Central Pattaya is approx 60THB away) but I need to as I no longer have 3 large shopping centers & 2 fresh markets on my doorstep (in fact we only have 2 Family Marts & 1 Lotus minimart since the 2 7/11 shutdown)... Where's the bloody BTS when you need it ????

So the two 7-11 made all the difference from when you moved in?

Of course if you really cared about those things, you could have moved closer to the malls and fresh markets, since you already knew there were none within a few hundred metres when you first moved in.

I was there yesterday, and was asked for my appointment. I had some friends who were not Thai, and who had no appointment, they were not allowed to be vaccinated.

There was only one queue, for people with appointments.

Not true.. So where did the 500 walk-ins go? Some assume that the Asians there were Thais.

I'm saying that if ALL of them would use the SAME hardware (not gonna write down the whole list of components, I thought you would understand what I was trying to say as there is NO need to focus on a specific brand) then there is NO difference in terms of BRAND. Brand would just be a name + different look

    Geesh relax dude ????

    Nice try...but what you actually wrote was;

    Quote

There is no difference inside any windows laptop or desktop computer. I mean no matter whether you buy HP, Dell, Asus, Acer, or whatever unknown brand, they all use the same components when looking at the same specifications.

But now you write IF they would use exactly the same components; but they don't. So it's a totally pointless and misleading statement IMHO.

Your initial premise is a fallacy.

Even if the headline components looked the same on the outside; there could be many variables inside.

Then of course build quality comes into it. Also design. Your post does not ring true on any level. Sorry.

The only difference is the software they use, which I don’t like, I prefer zero installed software when I buy a laptop or desktop pc, just a clean Windows.

The other difference would be your own taste, each brand has their own design and looks.

Simply put; an INTEL CORE I5-1135G7 / 8 GB DDR4 / 512 GB NVMe M.2 SSD / NVIDIA GEFORCE MX 450 by ASUS is as fast as a INTEL CORE I5-1135G7 / 8 GB DDR4 / 512 GB NVMe M.2 SSD / NVIDIA GEFORCE MX 450 by HP

It’s always better to look at what you need it for, especially if you are looking for something in a specific price range ????

You know that this is not correct...don't you?

It's like you were looking for a problem to fit the solution and decided to write something...anything.

The you write the ONLY difference is......and later write about ANOTHER difference that is different from the ONLY difference.

In other words, there are differences in build quality, software, warranty offered...and even in the components. Just because they use the same CPU, doesn't mean they use the same Motherboard or SSD or RAM or screen or...

i do not doubt you bought some cheap CPU

no way was you paying 270 baht for any CPU that was as you said
"in the top of range laptop at that time"

That CPU was released in 2007
    Win10 in 2015
that CPU certainly was NOT in high end laptops at that time

You will look back at this post one day, in embarrassment; never being able to delete it.

  17. Bear in mind that the 20 Mbps promos might only be available up until to the end of this month. So get the SIMs asap.

They may continue to offer 20 Mbps; but there is no guarantee. Up until recently 10 Mbps has been the norm.

Get it done; no procrastinating ????

Did not do those speed checks today. As mentioned none of this is urgent. Thanks to your advice I think I'm aware of next steps.

This is unrelated but with regards to the tv, now that's it's English language I have been able to look at few things.

Everytime you turn tv on it shows green strip and is wanting to agree to terms and conditions etc. Seems weird but wants wifi/internet. See attached pics.

I realize this is separate from all the selection of wifi package and which company to use. In reality that most likely be True unless speed tests show significant difference.

I'm also considering option of having router or whatever is needed and have someone install.

    IMG_20210921_181704_874.jpg

    IMG_20210921_181832_059.jpg

It's urgent in the sense that you cannot do anything else without it. You would still need a get a new Truemove H SIM anyway. So on what basis have you decided for Truemove H? That you are happy to pay the highest possible amount in order to receive 15 Mbps?? I suggest AIS for possibly higher speeds or DTAC on price. Makes no sense to get another new Truemove H SIM without knowing the possible performance of the others, regardless of cost.

Router does not need installing. Get the SIMs and tests done. It's holding everything else up and you are losing sight of the goal. DTAC and AIS SIM asap. Focus!

I  registered quite a while ago and 4 days ago received an sms to turn up today..................i/m guessing this sms is not an appointment as such but rather an invitation to join the queue at the walk-in?

Last walk in i tried a week or so ago i was number 300 in a queue for 200 doses...............so thanks but no thanks............unless someone can tell me those who have sms's are in a separate queue?

I/ll wait and pay for the jab at some point.

Yes, those with SMS went into a separate queue. You missed your appointment.

  20. Oh my...super technical advice.

Simple answer; Yes and yes. I have a similarly old Toshiba. It will benefit greatly from a clean install to SSD. 4 GB of RAM is fine. SSD will make the biggest difference. Windows 10 Pro will run smoothly. Device will start up a lot more quickly than it does now and the device will work optimally, better and faster than when new. 500 baht can cover it.

But who will be doing the work?

You should use the Genuine Ticket method to take a record of the activation; that you'll need to transfer to the clean install of Windows 10 to the SSD.
