Purpose of trip to Phuket was not to buy sim. Just something I did.
This is the sim I bought:
https://www.ais.th/theonesim/en/
I have a written receipt for the purchase 100baht.
That SIM is 50 baht. They just sold you a 50 baht topup.

There is another infographic located here:
https://help.truecorp.co.th/mobile_devices/3766/content/6/26?ln=en
but same problem it is a jpeg image so cannot use google translate.
Press 1 to cancel the press release. Press 2 to cancel the sms that is charged, whether it is a news service, horoscope Press 3 to cancel, both are public relations sms and paid sms
or
Dial *137 and call, then select Press 1 to cancel the SMS promotion free of charge. Press 2 to cancel SMS that has been charged. Press 3 to cancel all SMS.

Only sims available were 100baht with 50 baht prepaid credit. Not pulling my chain that was the price labelled on the packet.
Your trip there was absolutely unnecessary. You can obtain the MNP code remotely, as I wrote before you took off to Phuket.
There may also be the possibility of ordering the new SIM online once you have the code.
Never heard of a SIM that comes with 50 baht of credit. Seems like a shop thing as opposed to a direct from AIS thing. TeleWiz?
https://www.ais.th/one-2-call/en/index.html I don't see one there.
Anyway, it's not an issue; but you should know what you are buying, rather than them just selling you what they want to sell to you.

Hi nobra thanks for you info.
I note that you PMed me with this:
----------------------------------------------------
Try this before you make major changes.
Dial *137 then press 1
This will set SMS to receive ALL messages, hopefully including the banks.
If this works you can then disl *137 press 2 to turn off spam messages as required
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My current sim is with TRUE H (Not AIS). Is this the correct code to use with True?
I already did that with the settings on my android phone. That is deleted all the blocked number i previously had. But still not work.
I understand fully that this code is for True service not my phone. So maybe it will work.
Has anyone else tried this fix for true:
dial *137 then press 1
Can you confirm that the code is correct and that it works.
If it is a valid code (and possible fix) why did the 5 different customer service guys at True I spoke with last week not mention it?
That is the code for blocking SPAM SMS.
If you have a Thai wife, she can decipher what is stated:

Please not that skype call credits and subscription do not work the the 1800 and 13 number that all banks and government use. Some now have proper hardline numbers to call for people outside the country. Last week I was put through to the Commonwealth bank overseas number and was on hold for 75 minutes.
Often after and hour or more hold time someone will pick up and the connection will then drop out.
So it is back to the end of the hold line with more time and money wasted.
Have you gotten started on the Porting process? Get started. Even if you obtain a Porting code, there is no obligation for you to use it, so move to get a code in the first instance. Then at least you can move to the step of how you will actually use it.
If you registered using your passport, then this is how you obtain your code: 1.2 ส่งขอผ่าน SMS ไปที่หมายเลข 4444151
Instructions for your wife to follow.
Your translation:
Send a request via SMS to number 4444151. ➡ Foreign customers, type Passport number (print both numbers uppercase letters, lowercase letters correctly) press Send
So obviously, the staff haven't a clue, as is usual. How did you end up paying 100 baht for a 50 baht SIM??
Seems people are yanking your chain.

No problems with what you say so I must have been lied to by both the CBA and Telstra call centers. I really went off at the Telstra fellow but he was adamant that there would be no global roaming for pre-paid and that included OTPs from banks.
I get the SMS from both Citibank and ING but it is to my Thai number, not Telstra. Looks like there will be some arguments with them when I finally get to visit Oz again.
You are both right:
Why is Telstra no longer offering International Roaming on Pre-Paid?
We’ll soon be moving to a new Pre-Paid platform and while we move all our Pre-Paid products and services, we need to stop offering International Roaming. This stop is required so that we can successfully move to the new platform and will allow us to re-design International Roaming for Pre-Paid to bring a simpler and more valuable plan to Pre-Paid. -
I had to check the date; I thought that I might have fallen asleep and woke up decades earlier.
Time for you to educate yourself on the myriad ways of obtaining the media you crave. There are Torrents and also websites that use File Hosters for their releases.
I'm not sure what you not having nor wanting a TV has to do with anything.

As I have stated above I am not receiving SMS messages from my two bank Commonwealth and The Greater (former building society turned bank).
The Greater does not have token available.
Commonwealth bank does have one but will not send it to my post box. I have a post box because the road I live in is unnamed and the postal service is poor and unreliable.
I am trying to find sustainable long term solutions to these issues. Tokens are not really a solution because they have a battery shelf life. Apps are definitely not a solution because so many problems regarding failure, lost or stolen phones etc.
In such situations the banks response is" Oh when you come back into our branch we will fix that for you". How is that going to happen.
Everyone just assumes that the growth of crypto currency is fueled by speculation. I would argue that a significant part of the demand is from people looking for an alternative way to manage their finances without having to deal with the institution nonsense the bank now subject them to.
Five year battery life. Order another in advance of the five year expiry.
There is an online service option, but: https://become-ais-family.ais.co.th/move-to-ais-online/# & https://become-ais-family.ais.co.th/en

Ps: Safest Bet is to go to a 12Call / AIS shop
Totally out of date. Can be done via USSD now.
If it doesn't accept your passport number then let Truemove H know and they will send you the code manually. The contact AIS call centre, give them the code and get them to send you a new SIM(you'll likely need to send them your passport details and a live photo of yourself for registration).

Just noticed your post, Bruno.
Interesting. And useful. Have seen Google TV and Android TV on advertising boards and was wondering what all that meant. I shall have to google these options to know more precisely what they are, the differences & what they offer, etc....but I shall bear in mind what you say.
To be honest, Bruno, it is because I see these words & terms on display boards, without knowing what it all means that I posted this in the first place! My head spins at it all.
Then, I read a response to your post by lopburi3 - which to me sounds like it might apply in my case a bit (but I'm not sure!) - and am now sitting here smiling at how one can get more confused the more one seeks to become less confused!
I remember with early desk top computers, it seemed to me the only considerations were ensuring you had the latest 'Pentium' thingy and so much 'ram'!
Having said all that.....I'm still getting - from detailed posts like yours & lopburi3's etc, - a better general idea, and so I do appreciate your post, thanks. ????

Ah interesting. I started with 30 days / 40GB data for something like 100 baht. I think the first 10GB was full speed and the rest limited to 4Mb/sec.
I've got thru 30 GB in 13 days so 75% done already. Will have to find something to top with soon. Best I've seen so far is
75 GB, 30 day, 150baht. That should last until I can get Fibre installed.
Those are speed capped AND data capped packages. Capped to a maximum of 4 Mbps.
As suggested, go for an unlimited data pack with a higher capped speed; as opposed to limited data and a low capped speed.

I would say to focus on two main areas; picture quality and content availability.
OLED is considered desirable; but then that will leave less money for the other parts of the TV. So you need to prioritise.
Consider a TV with Google TV or Android TV if you aren't the type to have extra boxes connected to the TV for added functionality.
Google TV OS is the latest rebrand of the Android TV OS. That way there may be the option to install Apps that would normally be utilised on mobile phones; therefore widening choice.
Chances are the wife doesn't care much about the nth degree of quality; but price up OLED together with Google TV(or at least the latest Android TV OS version) and use that as a base. Then you can dig into the finer details; opting for things that you will definitely use and discarding things of no interest.

Just get a new SIM and add an unlimited 10 Mbps pack for 200 baht... If you want higher speed then a new AIS SIM and an unlimited 20 Mbps pack for 300 baht.

Thanks, generally whenever I've heard people mention 3BB it's always been positive, but then I checked the FB reviews and was lots of complaints about outages. But I guess people usually only leave reviews when they've had a problem.
Right now I'm having to use my DTAC sim for an iphone hotspot. Seems to manage around 10Mb down but only about 2 up. Fine temporarily but I'm eating through huge amounts of data despite being careful ????
Thanks, this has put my mind at rest about choosing 3BB I think.
You wouldn't have to be careful if you were utilising an unlimited 10 Mbps pack with DTAC in the first instance. A mere 200 baht per 30 days with any new SIM.
If you want symmetrical; go with AIS at the same price.

There is no sarcasm. I live in Pattaya. The streets are empty by the start of curfew. People are scared of the police and scared of being arrested and taken to the Covid police station. If you can prove different go out and take videos of Walking St, Pratumnak, Soi Buakhao, Beach Rd, 2nd Road etc after curfew time. But be careful You will be the only one out in the street.
What you wrote was this;
QuoteNo we don't read anything of the sort which is why this incident makes the news. Curfew is easily enforced and rigorously enforced here in Pattaya
Maybe you live in a different Pattaya. I know different. There is no one on Walking Street even in the daytime; so that is just a nonsensical suggestion.
I'm not sure that you are in Pattaya at all.
Let's do it this way; if you promise to donate 1000 baht to a charity of my choice I will produce video evidence to demonstrate to you very clearly that you are wrong. Ready to back up your statement with substance?

I would like to think of myself as a loving and kind person.
I tried as a young man to open my heart again to my father and get to know him better. Despite as a kid having watched him bash my mother to the ground with an ash tray. Or having an irate husband showing up at our door to inform my mother that my father was sleeping with his wife.....or....my god the list is endless....and better not shared here.
My father is off my Christmas card list for eternity. Nothing will ever change that...and it is best for me to avoid that emotional black hole entirely moving forward.
As I stated, it's not about him; it's about you. Avoiding it isn't the same as forgiving it. He may have been a product of his upbringing.
Happily you have broken the chain; but perhaps it still has a profound effect.
You sound a bit overwhelmed.
Who knows what is really 'normal'? You just don't feel good within yourself right now. It's something on which you need to work. Remedies; natural or otherwise, need to work in conjunction with you working on yourself.
Learning to be more relaxed in certain situation if not every situation. Dealing with your fears in so they don't affect your life in a negative way.
So if you take something to help you relax; then explore the relaxation. Example: Dislocated shoulder; perhaps too painful to move without a painkiller; though once a painkiller is administered you can explore comfortable positions and more easily manipulate the arm into place. Something you could not do beforehand. Once fixed, no need for more painkillers and you have better knowledge of how to manipulate your body to fix things.
Depression is like a perception. I talk to friends who were depressed and realise that their reasons for depression can be solved easily; but they just cannot see it because they are bogged down with their negative thinking; failing to see that someone else standing in their exact same shoes would think they are in paradise.
That negative thinking affects your health and well being.
The water is good for you as it takes the weight off. Fitness isn't just about swimming long distances. When was the last time you did some mad spins and twists in the water; rather than controlled and repetitive movement?
Reprogram your brain for fun, laughter and happiness until most of your time is spent in feeling good or just relaxed with minimal stress and worry.
The 'no income' thing may be a stress; but how can you minimise that stress? This is your life; you need to be enjoying it.

Yeah. That is how it happens in the Hollywood version.
In my early 30's I spent hours reading over child of violent alcohol father, and father hunger literature. I bought a house for my father to stay in near to me and tried to get to know him. He started showing up to my work office each day drunk and carrying a small cooler bag full of beers. Abusing my clients and my staff. He moved out the house and back to a town where his favorite bar and slot machines where located.
Sorry, but no tearful hug and all is forgiven in this scenario.
Forgiving is for yourself; not him. Forgiving makes you a better person. That's the point. He had a chance to be better; but couldn't do it. Don't make the same mistake. Don't allow someone's behaviour to make you into a more unpleasant person. Stay kind, stay loving and if you cannot; work on it. You'll feel better for it....and that's the point. Feeling better.

My mother died of cancer when I was 14. My worthless alcoholic father ran off with the next door neighbour's wife about six months before mum died and left me to fend for myself.
I have read extensively on the topic of "father hunger" to properly understand my own condition.
My father is about to die in the next few weeks. Good riddance to him. But that is another issue feeding into my current mental state.
As Funkadelic once wrote: "Free your mind and your a*s will follow". ????
Your mind is creating your world. Change your mind. Clear your mind. Twenty nine things? Really?
I decided long ago, that I would not allow life to change me into a 'worse' person.
Forgive your father; don't allow such negative thoughts to appear in your mind. That negativity is affecting you. I do not allow such things in my life.
The ocean is a good place to help you to relax. Learning how to relax and fix your problems is key. Your foot issue is one such thing. You can likely fix it yourself; but you have to allow yourself to fix it. You cannot do that if your brain is cluttered with unnecessary nonsense.
The more you clear your mind and relax mind and body, the more able you will be to look inside yourself figure out and fix minor health issues. Our bodies are amazing. It's only our limited thinking that holds it back. We think things should be a certain way; so we force it to be that way. You have to unlearn that behaviour and allow yourself to traverse a different path.
I fixed a shoulder issue and a leg/foot/ankle issue just this way. By allowing my mind and body to relax and move in the ways necessary to free the twists and blockages.
Whereas in your mind things some things appear set. Life isn't like that. Start allowing yourself to feel better.

Banking Authorisation Code Nightmare
in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Posted
The code you can obtain now, remotely. It lasts for 30 days and then expires. Then take that code to an AIS service centre along with your passport for registering the new SIM. Yes, the SIM is just 50 baht.It is clearly stated in the link supplied to you and I have obtained many of them from AIS service centres. The credit is obviously a money making path for them. Not a problem if you actually need some credit; but annoying if you don't. Airport booths have a similar ploy, wherein they try to force you to buy 300 baht worth of credit.
