No I try to take a balanced approach and accept that not everything is perfect here.

However I don’t criticize for the sake of criticizing.

If I was as dissatisfied as some of these posters seem to be I would return to Australia.

Fortunately I am in a financial position where I could do this, but suspect most of those who continually complain, cannot return to their utopian homeland.

To be fair, it appears to be you doing all of the moaning here; continually attacking imaginary members.

You covered yourself by making the topic title about you; rather than the bank refund. So we cannot accuse you of being off-topic, because this topic is really all about you.

Definitely not the same Pattaya this Vegetarian visited a few years ago.

Even the Mae Sai Thong mango & sticky rice place has gone. Established in 1992. Perhaps they will be back if they redevelop the former food centre there(Mae Wilai Market).

For now, there is still the one on the other side of the road(J.Noy).

Will hit tukcom for a new phone and sim. need to get a camera for mu new ute as well. wonder if tukcom is open.

Have you jumped here directly from the nineties?

Decide on the phone and package you want beforehand. What's your budget and requirements?

If you don't, you'll be dependent on the knowledge, honesty and competency of the vendor that you choose. I wouldn't.

Yes slightly confusing, more for me as I couldn't remember clearly, but see amended post above. It wasn't Kasikorn but the AIS app

Not a problem; everyone makes mistakes.

Checking My AIS online. It shows 10 baht. Haven't seen a 5 baht option. Wild goose chase? ????

Yes i see it's 20 baht min for Kasikorn. Using the AIS app it's definitely 10 baht, I'm pretty sure it was 5 baht which the AIS customer service told me about, maybe a year ago or so

    Excuse me, but...??

I have no idea as to where your advice leads.

    Quote

you can top up 5 baht for a month on your thai banking app, i used Kasikorn, i topped up several months

You stated Thai banking App and Kasikorn. So I checked online account. Now you suggest that Kasikorn is not 5 baht. So which Thai banking App?

Then you state the AIS app is minimum 10 baht, but some customer service person suggested that it is 5 baht...somewhere...but you don't know where.

    Not at all confusing ????

Sorted, thanks all. I just went to 7/11 and put 12 Baht as suggested, I can live with 12 Baht a month plus there will be some credit when I can't use Line.

I will also look into the Kasikorn 5 Baht deal later as I have the Kasikorn app on my phone.

    Thanks again.

12 baht? One month? Don't be a cheapskate, as you will only kick yourself if you forget and then lose access to your number. Unlikely, but it can happen.

    As for Kasikorn:

Face value AIS 3G Prepaid :20,50,100,150,200,250,300,350,400,450,500,800,1500

Maybe the 5 baht option shows only on the mobile banking application.

  7. Cheapest way is Boontherm machine outside 7-11 and Family Mart. Press the screen and choose the option for English, choose Mobile Topup, tap in your number and choose the 10 baht option. It will ask you for 12 baht. Place 100 baht in to the slot. It will take the 12 baht and leave you with 88 baht of credit registered on the Boontherm device. Repeat the process to add another 10 baht. This time there will be no need to put money in the device as it has 88 baht stored against you particular number. Repeat until there is just 4 baht in credit left on the Boontherm and you have eight months of validity. Add another 50 baht note and repeat another four times until you have the max 12 months of validity in advance.

12 months of validity extension for 144 baht with 120 baht baht in credit left on the phone.

Can it work in an oven? I have that but no stove top or hot plate (and don't like having to watch them)

Can if you have a suitable oven dish with lid. But then you'll be limited by the timer if you want to slow cook something.

You can also use a slow cooker. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/otto-sc-207-35-i160517341.html  Then you can leave it on low for hours. Really simple. Sauce, water, veggies. I prefer a slow cook to allow the dish to develop.

With a little bit of experimenting, you'll be putting together batches of clean and tasty meals.

I used to used the oven for casserole and stews(including curries); though now I use a slow cooker. I'll typically leave a beef ragu in for up to four to six hours. Vegetable curry, perhaps two hours or less, dependent of the amounts involved.

Well it is still only Oct 15th, and most of the crowd were likely Thai people.

If this happens with a restaurant full of tourists, the high season will be very short this

year and for the first half of 2022.  I hope this story makes some international news

papers etc.  Just what Thailand needs just before they plan their big November 1st

    opening announcement.

    Geezer

Didn't stop the RTP from placing the foreigners in the front positions for their promo pic.

Sorry, looks  like that must have hurt a nerve for one to be (ahem) that agitated ... ha

Go read the Wikipedia part on Thai Chinese ..
They own most of the commercial real estate in the happening areas in Thailand too (besides controlling 70- 90% of the economy).
So that means one will end up contributing to their wealth by going to a pub or restaurant  operated by true bred westerner too as these guys need  pay rent to them ...

And by the way ... all the Thai phone companies are own by them too, so you have to be using a western carrier while in Thailand .. but that's nice as it gives one a chance to be patriotic  ...

    Over egging the pudding?

Tell us which Thai-Chinese own DTAC.

Whilst you are at it, do the same for AIS.

    Restaurant or private meal prepper?

I love an Indian dish called Aloo Gobi (Cauliflower and Potatos). An Indian restaurant serves a dish for 150 baht, I have not been able to find cheaper. Alternatively I have thought of hiring a thai lady to make it, which of course would require a trial and error phase at my house.

Just curious if anyone else has looked into some meal prep outsourcing and what your thoughts were. I lean towards the restaurant on the hope that buying a week's worth will cut the price from $30 to maybe $30 or so (1,000 baht)

Shocking. You are in Pattaya. Pop along to Siamburi or the like and get yourself some Patak's paste or cooking sauce. 99 baht.

Buy some potato and cauliflower and cut up into the size of piece that you like.

Heat the sauce in a pan, add the potatoes and cauliflower and whatever else you like and then add some water and leave to simmer until the potatoes are cooked.

That alone should cover a few meals.  Absolutely no need for any help unless you are handicapped in a way that stops you from opening a jar and dicing vegetables. Plus you can customise it to your taste. Likely even better than the restaurant.

Dependent on your taste; Balti, Dopiaza, Jalfrezi, Madras can all work; though Patak's suggest the use of their Korma paste. Tesco sold off their own brand Korma paste stock at a mere 17 baht per jar. That could have kept you going for months; until you tired of Aloo Gobi. I like a bit og Aloo Saag too.

You can make it yourself with ease: https://www.pataks.ca/recipes/aloo-gobi

    interesting subject...

it is difficult to change from being a lifelong saver/investor to spender...

I can splash down on a nice car [then keep it until it does 10 years later] or home but then be cheap w/myself on other things... I am not into material things/clothes etc... so, I can have trouble finding things to spend on... I give it away in small denominations to lots of unsuspecting people.

Has anybody tried the 4% approach?

There are a few of us out there. Been doing the same ever since I had my first job as a teenager.

If I don't use it that day; I start giving it away to people who may need it more than I. It fills the heart to see someone get up and immediately begin to eat the meal that you brought for them.
