I think most of the "illegals" are economic migrants. As long as they can obtain work, they will come. Want to stop migrants from coming to the US to work without proper permission? Mandate the use of E-Verify for all employers, both public and private, and impose meaningful penalties on employers, including potential jail time, for hiring those without permission to work in the US. Without this, the rest, building walls, mass deportations, is just political theater.

Thailand's Expats Urged to Register with TRD for Tax, Says Expert

Yeah, I had no illusions about the DTA over-riding the saving clause. I find it hard to believe anyone would take this approach seriously. -
Why Kamala Harris Lost: The Challenges of a Complex Campaign
Etaoin Shrdlu replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Harris was a very weak candidate and the Democrats made many mis-steps on their way to this outcome. There is lots of blame go around. -
In 2020 we had sore losers. In 2024 it seems we have sore winners.

I upgraded from an Intel mini to the M2 not long ago, so I'll sit this one out. Good that the microphone jack and a couple of USB-C ports have been moved to the front. No SD card reader, though.

Trump Declares Victory and Promises a "Golden Age" for America
Etaoin Shrdlu replied to Social Media's topic in World News
"Speaking to supporters in Iowa, the former president said that if he returns to the Oval Office, he will immediately begin “ideological screening” for all immigrants and bar those who sympathize with Hamas and Muslim extremists." So the thought police, then. And Trump did indeed call for a total ban on Muslims entering the US. He was not able to accomplish this and the result was Executive Order 1379 and subsequent ones. -

Is this the same tax adviser who was telling Americans that their IRA/401k withdrawals were not subject to US Federal income tax due to the operation of the Thai-US DTA and also were not subject to Thai taxation due to the prior-year remittance rule? -

Yes, I heard that, too. Then Trump can be the savior of squirrels in Pine City, NY in addition to Springfield's dogs and cats. I think he'll need a separate animal control officer's uniform for Pine City, however. -

No, I don't own a goat. Muslims eat goats, but I don't think many Haitians are Muslim. But Trump hates Muslims, too, as evidenced by his ban on Muslim travelers. But anyway, Trump was on about dogs and cats. -

With a sense of great relief and expectation, as a dog lover, I await the inauguration of Donald J Trump with much hope. I'm sure that as soon as he's sworn in, he'll don his animal control officer uniform and make his way without delay to Springfield, Ohio to rescue all the dogs from the dinner table. After all, this was one of his great campaign issues and his concern was for the animals, wasn't it? -
You must have no sense of humor.

Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that the this election is rigged. I now expect him and his team to diligently work to overturn these results.

Flyin to Australia With 18 Year old Son
Etaoin Shrdlu replied to Coota's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
It is interesting to note how Thailand's child protection laws seem to define a minor as one who has not yet attained 18 years of age. https://www.icmec.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/ICMEC-Thailand-National-Legislation-updated.pdf Yet both parents have to sign for a passport until the applicant is 20. If you're still concerned, I don't think it would be too difficult to draft a letter for your spouse to sign. There are templates available on various websites and they could be translated into Thai easily enough. Since in Australia the age of majority is 18, the letter would probably only be of interest to Thai immigration. But I doubt you would have any issues with an 18-year-old in any event. -
I was working here when tax clearance certificates were required for exit. This requirement was dropped roughly thirty years ago. I recall that there was pushback from the various foreign chambers of commerce against the tax clearance requirement and given the much larger size of the foreign business community, perhaps this would keep it from being re-activated. Now that government databases are linked up to a greater degree than in the past, there may be easier ways for the RD to prevent tax delinquents from leaving the country without making suitable arrangements.

So far, the DoJ hasn't charged any of the Proud Boys or Oath Keepers of any of the other January 6th rioters with insurrection under Section 2383 of Title 18. Instead, several of the participants have been charged and convicted under Section 2384 of Title 18 for seditious conspiracy. Seditious conspiracy carries a prison sentence of up to 20 years, while insurrection only carries a term of up to ten years plus disqualification from holding Federal office. The events of January 6th 2021 were a seditious conspiracy on the part of at least some of the participants as has been proven by the courts and this is a more serious offense than insurrection as evidenced by the longer potential prison sentence. .

Flyin to Australia With 18 Year old Son
Etaoin Shrdlu replied to Coota's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
I believe an applicant for a Thai passport needs to be 20 years old before one will be issued without evidence of parental consent. My wife and I both had to sign for our daughter's renewal passport when she was 18. Same daughter traveled to the US by herself at age 17 without parental consent documents without issue. I traveled to the US via Europe with another daughter who was 16 at the time and was never asked for paperwork. -
April International - 30% Premium increase
Etaoin Shrdlu replied to topt's topic in Insurance in Thailand
Here's another explanation of "sinistrality": Sinistrality is merely the state of being sinistral. This means, quite simply being left-handed (adj.). Regrettably, left-handedness was once regarded as something evil, of the devil - hence ‘the left hand path’ indicating followers of the black arts or the occult. The word ‘sinister’ (Latin for left) as opposed to ‘dexter’ (right) means threatening or portending evil, harm, or trouble; ominous: a sinister remark. bad, evil, base, or wicked; fell: his sinisterpurposes. unfortunate; disastrous; unfavourable: a sinister accident. What, then, is April saying about its policyholders in Thailand? -
