  1. We prefer to arrive a little over three hours early as a matter of course for international flights. Notwithstanding, check-in desks at BKK invariably open three hours prior to departure. The JAL business lounge is perfectly acceptable to kill a few hours. Anyway, you're in for a six hour treat with JAL business class (and over seven hours coming back). Narita is a pleasant airport.
  2. I can log into the bet365 app using ExpressVPN East London server, but unable to log into the William Hill app (but I can open it). Although, I've not bet with WH for quite a few years so could be that my account is somewhat inhibited. I don't receive any data centre warning.
  3. As an occasional visitor to Thailand, is there any KYC to undertake when signing up to the TrueMoney Wallet app?
  4. It's kind of easy for the BiB to spot to wrong 'uns.
  5. All I'm saying is that we're glad that we didn't accept the vaccine. What benefit did it provide us? Are we worse off for not accepting it? If I posed the same question two or three years ago, I would have probably been denounced and my post censored. What a life!
  6. I've a certain amount of respect for the majority of ladyboys, because by and large they live their lives peacefully and respectfully. Just don't mess with them and they'll leave you alone. Imagine the eternal shame of being filmed getting smacked up in Phuket. Blimey.
  7. I dunno. Probably goes towards the works Christmas party or something. It's best not to get overly concerned. Not sure you're cut out for Pattaya.
  8. It all depends on what side of the fence one sits. A quick press of the side button on the iPhone versus fiddling with notes and change. Apple Pay every time.
  9. We just watched this on the 6pm news and a very sad and preventable death. Still, nothing surprises me. I recall a huge unprotected hole that would swallow a car in the middle of a main road near Thong Lor back in 2009.
  10. I'm not young, but joined the computer revolution with my ZX Spectrum as a young teen and my interest in technology has never diminished. Life in the UK is now largely cashless and can be months on end before I draw cash from an ATM (Apple Pay et al rules the roost now). I always keep ten or twenty quid in my wallet for emergencies and a few pound coins on the side to tip the occasional fast food delivery driver, but that's about it. Thailand is catching up on the electronic payments front, albeit slowly. QR codes do the job for me linked to my Bangkok Bank account, although still not as smooth as an Apple Pay purchase. There's hope yet.
  11. Undercover cops are backed up by reinforcements. Communication failed and an officer brutally attacked. Let's hope they perform more admirably next time.
  12. No mention of the officer pulling his handgun. He should have drawn as soon as the atmosphere changed. Either way, I hope he recovers from his injuries.
  13. That's all by the by now. It's going to prove a very expensive journey for the falang.
  14. Nothing wrong with Rick's altruistic approach. I suppose if he saves one life, then it will have been worth it. Conversely, the absolute majority of beneficiaries will be extremely selective as to when they wear their new skid lid, if ever.
  15. Probably a stock photo. The suspect restaurant probably uses free-range eggs and organic rice. Once the chillies, fish sauce, aircon and gas are factored in, then I suppose you're looking at 70 baht. Notwithstanding, they can charge what the hell they like. Jeez.
  16. I opened a Bangkok Bank account within my first couple of visits to Thailand and maintain a balance for the various annual fees and registered for online banking so can control my account from the UK. Also comes in handy transferring funds to Thailand for holidays, i.e. no fees to draw cash from ATM and useful for domestic online/offline payments (I'm using the QR route regularly for larger payments when we're here). I'm in no need of a driving licence, particularly as my Thai wife has one (we live in UK majority of year and she renews her licence just prior to the five year expiration when we're over here along with her motorbike licence), but good advice by previous poster to get one if you're a driver.
  17. Sometimes we're reduced to reading between the lines.
  18. Someone went to a lot of trouble. It would have been easier to jump/push in the khlong for just as quick expiry.
  19. Don't worry about that. Any mention of DCC should be ignored and let the card do the f/x transaction. It's very easy but also easy to get ripped off if you press the wrong button.
