  1. Please cite "the medical reports," explain what you mean by "the opposite," and what you are referring to as "1 in 800." My question about the meaning of "1 in 800" was in the context of BritScot's challenge that medical reports and that figure showed the opposite of what I said on a previous post to the effect that the shots were meant to reduce serious illness and death, not minor infections. (I guess the "opposite" would be to reduce infections but not deaths?}
  2. OK. But what does that have to do with the effectiveness of vaccine?
  3. I don't see 1 in 820 anywhere on that post. In any case, what does that mean? What is the claim?

  5. The shots and boosters are not supposed to give you immunity. They are supposed to prevent serious and lethal illness. You need to keep getting them because they wane in effectiveness after a while.
  6. I don't understand why so many posters are trying to get by with the least protection. I had my 5th Moderna in September before my Oct visit and am planning on getting a 6th before my next visit at end of this month. Shots are said to be full strenth effective for 2-5 months. Why not take advantage of what is available? I'm 81, but I would do it if I were 20 years younger.
  7. 1. good friends: 4 for 60+ years; 3 for 40+ years; 3 for 10 years. 2. relationship, intimate: TGF 40 yrs younger for 8 yrs. 3. structure in your day: Care for ailing wife, gym, reading & writing, no alarm clock in 50 yrs. 4. job you like: Retired in August from almost 60 yrs college teaching. 5. passion for anything: GF, periodic writing projects, music, life.
  8. Looks like Air Force One in the photo.
  9. What dating profile did you copy that from? Certainly some 80s are in better condition than some 50s. That's indisputable. More important is the capacity we have of improving ourselves to that degree.
  10. 40 years. Actually 40 1/2 at 81 and 40. We met at 73 and 32.
  11. Does "ordinary people" include falang, hi so, and w/$$ ?
  12. Is Paxlovid available? If so, where?
  13. So your argument is that the oldermale/youngerfemale combo is built into the biology while the opposite is not?
  14. No. When he was 38, life expectancy for women was 63 I can answer for myself. No, I was never attracted to older women. When I was 38 I was still in love with the girl I fell for when I was 28 and she was 16. It had nothing to do with life expectancy and everything to do with patriarchal double standard. I'm not sure how that makes Mac's point, if it is any different from mine.
  15. How about places that have: -An air quality index average below 50; -Access to clean sea water and beaches (like the Andaman vs. the Gulf); -Access to restaurants, good hospitals, and markets?
  16. I can't base my choice of a home on the price of taxi rides.
  17. Not sure where in Thailand I want to be when I'm 91 but I don't think it's Pattaya. Maybe Phuket.
  18. Thanks for the Nadsat primer. I loved the film but I missed the lingo.
  19. Welcome you are younger than me Welcome, of course! I think when I was 64 I was also nearing 80. Now at 81 I feel like I'm nearing 64. I look forward to 64, not backward to 80.
  20. I think this is the core of the feeling that bothers me. Why should sex demean you? Why should old/young sex be funny, inauthentic, ugly, or improper? Something about the old in and out? There are so many ways of enjoying contact with another.
  21. Same here, but let me parse this a bit: My GF isn't oblivious to looks or unconcerned. She will respond to a haircut or particular piece of clothing with a complement "you look good." She'll approvingly say I look thin or "skinny." She says she likes my white hair. She thanks me for sex, but keeps to her own schedule (not everyday). She has a vested interest in keeping me alive, but she knows I'll care for her alive or dead. And I'm sure (as you must be) that her interest in my health is emotional, not financial. Further, when she mentions age, it is her age not mine. As she enters her 40s, she says she is getting old. When I asked if a particular person was older than me, she said, "I don't now. How old are you?
  22. No, but when I was about 38, I had a date with a woman also about 38 who stood me up in favor of an 80 year old man. And no one laughed. Even when she married him. His name was Cary Grant. Unfair perhaps, but we live in a patriarchal culture which makes some elder men more desirable than elder women. I am no Cary Grant, not even an Archie Leach, but none of my friends or family have been anything but entirely supportive of my relationship with my beautiful GF 41 years my junior. So why the laughter? Why do we assume that a 38 and 80 yr old can't be real? Thais don't assume that. My GF's parents, siblings, and friends don't assume that. My point was that we also live in an ageist culture: one which puts undue pressure on age as identity.
  23. Your wife is 38? Must be true love. Cue laugh response. This has to be funny because we all know that a 38 yr old cannot possibly love an 80 yr. old.
  24. If Jerry Mahoney will forgive me for saying so, I have blood tests every 6 months. The last eGFR was 75. I'm 81.
  25. Point taken. But your bar is too high to ever take advantage if he's got something. Meanwhile I submit my own happy experience without negative side effects as lab rat.
