  1. Of course if you want to have access to Google maps on a portable advice, you'll have to pay a premium for that. 5000 baht for the tablet to which you linked and as a new product we have no clue as to it's efficiency and reliability.

No need to pay extra for mapping if you have a Nokia you have free offline mapping as standard on most new handsets plus you can tether the handset to your laptop through joikuSpot so you already have a mobile hotspot as well

  2. I am a working paramedic and have been for the past 8 years after 12 years as a military medic, I agree they are better than nothing but I have seen them do things that have made me cringe. It was not done through malice but ignorance and lack of training but that can be lethal, I also had a chat with a Fallang volunteer one night in Pattaya who was stood by his modern reasonably well appointed ambulance. I explained what I did and asked him what training was required by someone to respond to the major accidents you see on the roads round there his response was that if you had done a first aid course that would be useful...scary really to know someone with no training can potentially kill you or leave you crippled by the roadside through lack of basic training it seems a lot of it is a bit of a toss up, to be honest the last bloke I handed over to them would have been better off in a taxi at least there he would not have been forced onto a backboard and been forced into an unsized cervical collar even after I had told them he had a fractured skull. Better than nothing but still scary as hell...

  3. The universal blood donor group is O Neg, you can give this type to any donor with no need for specific cross matching so really what you need to ask for is O neg if you cannot get enough of the specific cross match

This topic is about the little girl needing blood. Yes O is universal. I watch CSI too. We are waiting with bells on for your next post.

  4. Please explain why you think so.coffee1.gif

    http://www.ancap.com.au/faqs

there you go, you never know you might learn something personally 5 stars seem to be a no -brainer...

How well does ANCAP testing compare to real world crashes?

Analysis undertaken by the Monash University Accident Research Centre

has shown that there is a good correlation between the ANCAP crash test

results and the vehicle's actual real world performance as measured in

the Used Car Safety Ratings. International studies have shown cars that

perform better in crash tests provide better occupant protection than

vehicles that perform poorly in crash tests; A US study found a driver

is 74% less likely to die in cars rated good than cars rated poor in car

to car head on crash of two cars of similar mass. A Swedish study also

found cars with three or four stars are approximately 30% safer than

    cars with two stars.

Can a compact or sub compact car protect you in a side crash with a much larger car like a 4WD?

The main risk to the occupants of a small car struck in the side by a high, heavy vehicle like an 4WD is

severe head injury. It has been found in real-world crashes that

head-protecting side airbags, such as inflatable curtains, do a

remarkably good job in these circumstances (see for example, the

research by the US Insurance Highway).

That is one reason that ANCAP insists on a good result in its side pole test for a 5-star occupant protection rating.

If a large, heavy sedan and a small, light

sedan both receive five stars and the same ANCAP scores, is the large

sedan safer for the occupants than the small sedan?

It is not appropriate to compareANCAP ratings across vehicle categories, particularly if there is a

large weight difference. The reason is that in car-to-car crashes, the

heavier vehicle has a theoretical advantage (due to the physics of the

crash). Similarly, a higher ride height might be an advantage in a

car-to-car crash. However in single vehicle crashes, such as with solid

fixed objects, the weight might no longer be an advantage. So it depends

on the type of crash. Also some small cars do remarkably well in

crashes with larger vehicles as they have very strong passenger

compartments and advanced occupant restraint systems and these features

make up for the mass disadvantage.

  5. A couple of months ago we were crew changing by Helecopter in Tanzania, it had all been going well until they stopped to refuel the chopper. It seemed to be taking a long time so I went to have a look and was confronted by the ground crew trying to siphon an 85 gallon drum of avgas into the chopper. Turned out someone had forgotten to bring the pump for the fuel cans hence the siphoning which was apparantly taking too long to do so they had decided to speed up the process by using a watering can!!! alls well that ends well and I am here to tell the tale but it was a classic 'only in africa.....

  6. Bangkok is quite bad for it now, I have been asked quite a few times now with different airlines, check-in have asked for the Letter of Guarantee as well as the Seamans book and they have said in the past that if I didnt have it I wouldnt be flying, I have not asked recently as I always travel with them now but I reckon it could catch some people out....edit I was asked last time with Qatar but I have also been asked for the stuff by Thai and Kenyan as well

  7. Hey Mark, been cruising about in my Wildtrak for nearly a year now mate, tell em to get their skates on haha.

I seem to remember that Buddy was'nt you just about the first person to get one on here?....how much money changed hands to expediate things? we are going to have to have a get together mate I have not had a proper blow out for ages and Pia keeps asking about crazy Lukey....

    PM inbound

I ordered it in Nov/Dec 2011 mate, it turned up last April. Their customer service is utter Dogs eggs though, and didn't have a particular smooth transfer with Ford.

I know what you mean about the dealers being dog toffee mate but we have a 2010 Wildtrak and it has been bombproof really, never had any problems with it or Ford's servicing here in Pattaya, dealing with them trying to get the new one though has been a masterclass in being pissed about by idiots......

  9. Im interested in the courses just purely for interests sake. Are you a Paramedic? And are these like refresher courses or do you do these courses and then become an offshore medic?

I am an Ex military UK Registered Paramedic, these courses are basically just refreshers that need to be done every couple of years in order to stay current and are not training to be a Medic, you are already expected to be qualified before you start them

Different areas of the world require different qualifications for instance to work in the N Sea or off the UKCS many companies require the Medic to complete a 4 week UK HSE Offshore Medics course whose prerequisites are that you are already a Registered Nurse or former Class 1 Military Medic prior to starting so for this course being a civilian Paramedic would not even necesarily get you onto the course

Areas such as Norway only accept Nurses on their rigs and vessels plus the differing quality of Medics due to their training is also sometimes an issue and it is not unknown for companies to choose the cheapest rather than best option so where you trained makes a big difference

  10. Any medics out there struggling to find medical courses to keep you in date or add CPD in the region I used the Penang Adventist Hospital in Georgetown Malaysia to keep my ACLS in date, reasonably well run and cheap and fully AHA accredited:

    http://www.pah.com.my/services/life_support_edu/

I also have it on good authority that this PHTLS course in the Phillipines is also well taught and good value:

    http://www.eruf161.com/services-a-equipments

Unfortunatly it doesnt appear there is any decent Internationally recognized courses inside Thailand unless you know something I dont.......

  12. Thanks.

If you're that desperate for one, accept the offer irrespective of colour and have it resprayed for about 40K with the colour of your choice.

I am not that desperate if I was I might have taken the 2.2 4x4 a few weeks ago or the Black 3.2 the other week or the White later this month, I can wait till I get back from work in April so it makes zero difference to me but thanks for the advice.....

  13. I think you will struggle with this Wayne as all the rest of us are in the same position as you but first things first I would email Ford HQ in Bangkok stating you are not happy with the wait and lack of information from the dealer....I have personally been offered a 2.2 WT instead of of the 3.2 we ordered several times now and if I was desperate I would have taken that but since kicking off with my local Ford and going to see another dealer we have been offered 3.2's but in the wrong colour so we are hanging on for the one we really want.

If you have been waiting for a year like we have you should be able to get some idea of where you are on the waiting list from the dealer and once you find that go around other dealers and get them playing off each other all you really need is your deposit paperwork as it seems Ford dont care where you ordered from so long as you are on the waiting list, that is what we did and it finally got some movement from our local dealer who also gave us a date of delivery by the end of April or free tax and insurance paid if not

Going to see the other dealer was really beneficial as they are the ones that first offered us a black 3.2 WT a few days ago and both them and the original dealer have also said they will have white delivered later this month so it gets them working, from my point of view I would much rather pay the new dealer than the Pattaya one but they now know we will pay the first to deliver....

Will e-mailing Ford HQ in BKK really achieve anything - i doubt it!

It did for us as they rang up the Pattaya branch after my rant and all of a sudden after nothing at all we started getting phone calls and some explanations so you would be wrong in your assumption..... that is the beauty of actually doing stuff rather than listening to all the nay sayers on here

    Wonders will never cease.

    But still no vehicle??

You dont read so well do you...I turned down a black 3.2 WT last week as I dont want to compromise at this stage, you are correct we are still waiting for the colour we ordered but dont worry I will let you know when we get It

  16. My Ranger also feels rock solid, first time I sat in one and closed the door, I thought, man this ting is build like a tank.

The new Ranger got 4 or 5 star safety rating, I think a Vigo is 2 or 3, think about that Transy next time you ride your beloved Vigo.wink.png

My now sold Honda City 06 really felt like a tin can in comparison to my Ranger but it was a good ride for what it is.

Guzzie it was maximum 5 stars mate and it is also the only Pickup ever to get 5 stars... I think you may find the only other vehicles on the roads in Thailand with 5 star Euro Encap awards are your BMW's and Merc's and a few other vehicles that are all in a way higher price range than the Ranger

  17. A Thai friend of mine just bought one. Had a look around it and did the shut the door test, Rattle, tinny, eeeer hmmmmm. Not impressed. sad.png

8 months 17,000km of 4x4 fun, no rattles, squeaks or complaints. Just like day one!

Transam, why dont you try it yourself rather than listening to a third party that way when you speak you can do it from a position of knowledge rather than a position of ignorance......

2012 FORD RANGER TRUCK NCAP EURO CRASH TESTS

The only truck to receive 5 stars.

Google Beluga Whale Smile on Google Images. I thougt the new white in the Market was going to grab my bag of Fish..Jeez their bloody Ugly, never noticed em before. Stick 2 Headlights on Old Moby and theres a Ranger.cheesy.gif

Are you on drugs or some other medication as you make very little sense....

  19. Let us know if you get hit up for under the table "fees"

Why? Did you or someone you know get asked for such? Did they pay?

thats the way it works in the better schools, thailand's dirty little ( not so secret)

Really....that is not the impression I got when we visited and spoke with the Head and other teachers in fact they had a booklet they gave us with all the prices for registration, uniform, meals and semesters etc so I would take that with a pinch of salt as they where very upfront about all the prices
