Taxation of Ex-Pats pensions etc.
LittleBear57 replied to LittleBear57's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I missed this article somehow. However it seems very clear it will not affect people from countries with a double taxation agreement. Thank you for posting. -

Thanks I must have missed the original article, and I knew the UK has a double tax agreement with Thailand. Wouldn't put it past the Thais to tax you and then make it difficult for you to claim back. No offence taken. -

Thanks that's interesting. -
There doesn't seem any real info around, but apparently this will come into effect on January 1st 2024, not far away at all. Does anyone actually know what the Taxation rate is in Thailand and is there a personal allowance free of Tax like in the UK.? It's possible Ex Pats will be able to claim their pensions tax free if you can prove tax has already been paid at country of origin. Some things are difficult to prove. I rely on income from a rented property and a small private pension and to be honest paying another 10% tax here would probably be the final straw even though I have a wife and child here. I was going to buy a car here soon to replace my old truck however I may have to put that on hold until there is some clarification on the issue. I could bring some money over before January to avoid the potential issue of the truck purchase. Another case of Thailand killing the Golden Goose not satisfied with us spending our pensions here they want more. What are your thoughts?

I went to both a couple of years ago. Kamphaeng Phet has nice ruins well worth a walk around. We drove on to Mae Sot and spent a night there then drove south to Umphang to visit Thi lor su waterfall which is quite impressive. That's quite a long winding drive and apart from a lazy raft ride down the river and waterfall not much else to do. Had to return to Mae Sot which doesn't seem to have much going for it except for the Burma border which was closed due to Covid. We drove up to Mae Hong Son and not much at all along the boring windy road until close to Mae Hong Son itself.

Srettha: 1st Cabinet Meeting to Discuss Oil Prices

They may market it it as a subsidy but in reality it is just a reduction of tax, for the diesel. -
Doing this for my daughter after her birthday. Read somewhere that all passport applications from overseas have to be done on line. I thought it had to be done at the Trendy building in Bangkok? Perhaps it was just an agency or someone trying to drum up trade. Anyone just done it???

Health ministry considers dentistry courses at state hospitals
LittleBear57 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Interesting topic as my 16 year old daughter has shown interest in becoming a dentist, here in Thailand. Starting off on your own business has to be very expensive, and locally seem to be everywhere. I didn't even realize that government hospitals do dentistry. Good news about being a dentist is she could go to the UK and get well paid even being an NHS dentist as she has a UK passport. -
I buy only long life now and have plenty so haven't looked. The reason I buy long life is in April I threw away one 2 litre bottle of full fat milk with 4 days left on best before date, and a bag of milk not dated which was off when I opened it.

There are private hospices around that will do end of life care. Unfortunately it comes at a cost, however it is much cheaper than Europe or the US.

Pictures of school lunches spark social media outrage
LittleBear57 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Where I taught the teachers ate the same. I couldn't eat everything (me being fussy) but the food wasn't bad. Had a little soup usually then rice and meat etc. with a piece or slice of fruit. If no fruit a small desert. I guess it's all down to the school and how well the school polices it's food contractors. The school was at Ban Chang and the kids did OK. -

World History in Thailand - lack of or Arrogance?
LittleBear57 replied to KhaoYai's topic in Primary & Secondary Education
When teaching it was amazing how many times the kids didn't show for a lesson. Asking why reasons were, Gone to Temple. Not finished scouting lesson. Have to visit nurse. Not back from swimming lesson. This was the whole class. -

Warning of water shortage from effects of El Niño from July

Mine's the same hot showers on hot days lasting up to 15 mins. Fans and lights on all over the house when no one in the room. TV on all day but rarely watches it as she's on the phone. -
Here in Bang Saray I have found it awful. First I got a letter from my pension provider giving me 3 months to decide if I wanted to take my pension as a lump sum, great deal too! It arrived a month after the deadline date. A tax info letter took 6 months to arrive. Yesterday I found in my bank statement (internet) that my other pension had increased in April but had no letter advising future payments which is normally sent around December. I also have had no tax forms sent so it looks like I will have to download the forms locally and print them off. But of course the worst thing is you never know if something has gone missing and it's unexpected, but important. No wonder UK banks will not send bank or credit cards to Thailand.

There is nothing to be done for the boy. Assuming the man is guilty of the murder HE KNOWS what has happened to the girl. She is missing, she needs to be found alive or unfortunately dead. Lets hope the justice system works well and gives the man what he deserves. Never to be free again. Better to be searching than re-enacting.

Navy Releases Artificial Reefs to Help Protect Marine Wildlife
LittleBear57 replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
Just a few kilometres away at Nang Ram/Nang Rong beaches the reefs have been totally destroyed by dredging and silt from it. Curtesy of the oil refinery they have built at the port of Sattahip. So they have created a few square metres of reef possibly and destroyed 100's more. Unfortunately this reef creating has a very low success rate.
