Officials at the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) are investigating two plots of land inside the Thap Kwang-Muak Lek national forest reserve in Saraburi province, allegedly occupied by well-known song writer and singer Yuenyong Opakul, aka “Aed Carabao”. Director of the PACC’s Region 1 Office, Thanawat Sanitsakdee, accompanied by political activist Veera Somkwamkid, led PACC officials to the forest reserve to probe Yuenyong’s ownership claim of two land plots, covering a total area of 5.6 hectares, to determine whether they encroach on the forest reserves. Veera told the media that he received a complaint from villagers last month, claiming that they could not get into the forest reserves, to search for forest produce, because it was blocked by steel fencing, indicating that the land is privately owned. There were 1.48 million foreign tourist arrivals in October but the majority of these were short-haul visitors from Asia. The Economic Intelligence Centre (EIC), the research arm of Siam Commercial Bank has forecast growth of 3.4% in 2023 compared to similar projections for 2022. There were 1.48 million foreign tourist arrivals in October but the majority of these were short-haul visitors from Asia. by Joseph O' Connor The Economic Intelligence Centre (EIC), the research arm of Siam Commercial Bank has forecast growth of 3.4% in 2023 compared to similar projections for 2022. This is dependent on the kingdom receiving 28 million visitors next year, 4 million of whom are expected to come from China, a country whose economy is currently in a state of crisis and where street protests have broken out this week across the mainland. Thailand’s economy is still facing a growing list of challenges as the year 2023 comes into sight. In the past week, as well as what health officials have termed as a smaller wave of the COVID-19 virus, the country’s exports for October are reported to be down by 4.4% from last year while incoming tourists, although rising to 1.48 million for the month, are now predominantly originating in Asia and spending less. With 2023 predicted to be a year of falling GDP in many countries including Europe and China, the kingdom is very much dependent on its critical foreign tourism industry to boost its economic performance and drive another year of similar growth to his year. SPONSORED BY by Rooster | ASEAN NOW Pundits were saying "dismiss the chance of the Germans winning at your peril" as Hansi Flick's side rescued a point in the late match against Spain last night. Spain took the lead though Alvaro Morata's brilliant flicked finish but Niclas Fullkrug from Werder Bremen equalized with 7 minutes of regulation time to go with a powerful finish. At 29 he became the oldest debutant for the German national team in 20 years in a pre-World Cup match. Earlier the Germans had enjoyed a psychological boost after Costa Rica broke Japanese hearts with a 1-0 win; this was very deflating after the Japanese had stunned the Germans 2-1 in the first game. The Germans' last game is against Costa Rica. They will likely still be eliminated if Japan beat Spain, a big ask. In other action yesterday Canada bowed out of the tournament following a 4-1 loss to Croatia while Morocco stunned the aging stars of Belgium to leave Group F in the balance. Today features the last of the second round of group games, the final time games will be played in Thailand according to the 5pm-8pm-11pm-2am schedule: Group G: Cameroon vs Serbia 5pm Group H: South Korea vs Ghana 8pm Group G: Brazil vs Switzerland 11pm Group H: Portugal vs Uruguay 2am Highlight of tonight's games for neutrals is undoubtedly the second game for Brazil following their win versus Serbia. They will be without Neymar who is injured, however. Brazil head coach Tite said the wanton fouling of Neymar has to stop. Since his first World Cup in 2014 the PSG star has been fouled 53 times - 11 more than any other player. He was fouled nine times against Serbia. From tomorrow the schedule for the last group games will mean kick-offs of two matches at 10 pm and two games at 2 am Thai times. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-28

Smiling Russians greeted at U-Tapao as first charter flight since Covid brings 230 tourists to Pattaya Picture: INN Deputy chief of the Thai tourist police Pol Maj-Gen Aphichart Suribunya said that officials at U-Tapao airport near Pattaya, the Pattaya TAT and Chonburi tourist board were on hand to welcome the first charter flight since the pandemic from Russia. On board AZUL AIR from Novosibirsk - Utapao were 230 Russians who smiled as they were presented with garlands and sweets in a ceremony replete with dancers with long drums. Flights on B757s and B767s carrying 238 and 336 passengers respectively will be arriving from eleven destinations in Russia from now until March. Aphichart said this was a great thing for Thai tourism and the economy - Russians were most welcome being tourists who have always made up the numbers in Thailand. And it showed that Thailand was still at the "top of mind" for tourists - this seemed to mean that the country is a popular destination. INN said that everyone was welcome to come to Thailand. They didn't mention the war in Ukraine at all. The tourist police would employ the latest tech to make sure the visitors were safe and sound. "If they have difficulties they can call 1155 anytime", said the top cop. "We can speak Russian". The media further reported that in 2022 so far more than 9.1 million tourist visits had been made to Chonburi. Most were Thais, 375,653 were foreigners. Coffers had been swelled to the tune of 55 billion baht as a result. The charter flights showed that Russians were still coming to Pattaya. And they were most welcome. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-28 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
