SPONSORED BY by Rooster | ASEAN NOW Last night's highlight - especially for audiences in Asia - was the remarkable success of Japan who beat Germany 2-1 coming behind in the process. Germany like Argentina the night before could have been several goals ahead but Japan restricted them to a well taken Gundogan penalty. In the second half however Japan grew in confidence and with some wily changes from a calm and collected manager got two goals. The second was a particularly opportunistic effort that created pandemonium in the stands where Japanese supporters outnumbered Europeans. The result really puts the Katze amongst the Tauben with Germany's next match against Spain, 7-0 winners over hapless Costa Rica in last night's 11 pm (Thai time) match. If the Japanese can beat Costa Rica, too, it will leave the Germans having to beat Spain. This will enable the Japanese to really clean up. This is something that their spectators at the tournament have been reported as doing. At the opening ceremony match Japanese supporters were tidying up after themselves before going home and last night the BBC reported they were doing the same after the Germany match, putting celebrations on hold. They said that in Japan cleanliness is a part of the culture and is drilled into its people from early childhood. They quoted a professor at the Osaka University as saying that Japanese people tidy up to "demonstrate pride in their way of life". Might be something we could all learn in Thailand. Having worked with the Japanese I have known about this for years, but it's still great to see good cultural examples being exhibited on such a massive stage like the World Cup - and not just for the cameras. Gambate Ne! to all my Japanese friends. If England don't win I hope you do! In last night's other games Croatia and Morocco played out another 0-0 draw. Fair play to Morocco for keeping Modric under wraps. In the late game this morning Belgium - still ranked by FIFA as the second best team in the world - squeezed past Canada 1-0 with the Canucks missing a penalty and several other decent chances. Not to worry, I always miss seeing the puck at ice-hockey. Spain's win was compared by pundits to England's demolishing of Iran. Though most were cautioning that first match results and later tournament games against better teams were two entirely different matters. Tonight the action in Thailand continues in the familiar (by now) 5pm/8pm/11pm and 2am time slots: Group G: Switzerland vs Cameroon 5pm Group H: Uruguay vs South Korea 8pm Portugal vs Ghana 11pm Group G: Brazil vs Serbia 2 am Highlights for me tonight are the appearances of so many star players in the game. Son should be on the field for South Korea in a face mask after hurting his cheek playing for my beloved Spurs. He's a hero in my family and I hope he can inspire his team to win. Ronaldo is never out of the news and the last week has been wall to wall Ronaldo what with the Piers Morgan interview and severing of ties at Utd. But he is still a great player (for me number 4 GOAT) and capable of magical moments, especially in front of goal when it's really needed. I'll be rooting for Ghana though who often field promising teams. Finally the wait at 2 am is over for the first appearance of tournament favorites Brazil and their plethora of talent..... Neymar, Vinicius Junior , Rodrygo, Lucas Paqueta and Richarlison perhaps the most drool-worthy. Enough to keep anyone awake in Thailand's wee hours. Rooster -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-24

Sanook Thai Captiom (colloquial!): A loss of face...or what? Sanook reported on an accident that occurred on Pahonyothin Road yesterday. Police had been told that a luxury car had hit a tree. At the scene they found damage to the right door and front right wheel of a red Ferrari F8 Tributo 3.9 (Rosso Magma) with the license plate of ฉบ 6666 (Bangkok). A tree was snapped in half on top of the 25 million baht vehicle. It was being driven by 45 year old Nawin Yasri who was taken to Paulo Kaset Hospital with a spinal injury. Picture: Sanook It emerged that he had driven the vehicle inbound along Pahonyothin Road and intended to make a U-turn to fill up with gas at the station opposite in the area of soi 73. He lost control of the vehicle and hit the tree. It appeared that the wheels may have locked. Nawin is better known by the name Kaka and has raced for the Puma Inforlife Team PTT winning countless races, said the media. By Veena Thoopkrajae With Covid-era travel restrictions now relaxed, Thailand is once again underlining its reputation in the medical field by drawing in visitors wanting to benefit from the country’s natural attractions while also taking care of their medical problems. But while visitors are returning, analysts predict the industry will not rebound significantly until 2023 when touristnumbers really pick up. Moving in the right direction An analysis report from Krungthai Compass, a research house under Krungthai Bank, said Thailand’s medical tourism sectoris recovering from setbacks caused by the impacts of Covid-19 and especially from the now-cancelled Thailand Pass scheme. A surge in foreign tourists flooding into Thailand over the past few months has improved footfalls at private hospitals and given a promising outlook to the country’s medical tourism industry. According to news reports, more than 3.1 million foreign tourists arrived the country in October, a rise of more than43% over September. Daily News Thai Caption: Trustworthiness? Daily News reported that comments online by Thais went ballistic after a post by a hospital in the North East about dress codes. Many netizens felt the authorities were treating front line medical staff like children at school not responsible, free adults. The hospital at the center of the drama was not named, a common feature in defamation fearing Thailand. The new rules were contained in a post on a fan page that translates as "not doctors complaining - aggressivenotdoctor". Female nurses were told not to have skirts shorter than one inch above the knee. And they mustn't be too tight either. Slacks were advised but these mustn't show off the legs. Hair must be a natural tone - no fancy dyes. And no clips. Black, navy blue and dark grey clothing colors were important to create trust among patients and visitors, the edict continued. Too much lipstick, mascara and false eyelashes were all banned. Men were told to have hair that wasn't dyed and did not reach further than the collar in length. Most netizens thought it was all well OTT - and just like being back at school again. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-24 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Daily News Thai Caption: Angry when there was no money in his account We've all been there. We expect money to be in our accounts from a job but the ATM says no! This happened to Sam, a painter, who went to an ATM outside a shopping center in Trang, southern Thailand, on Tuesday to withdraw his payment from a job. But there was no money in his account and in addition his card was taking an age to be spewed out. This set Sam off - he was already very drunk after a session with friends. He kicked the Krung Thai machine then used a lump of concrete two times to smash it up. It was all coaught on CCTV before the peeved painter fled with a friend on a motorcycle. Muang Trang police found him at home yesterday and he was taken to the scene of the crime where he did the requisite pointing and offered apologies to society for his actions, reported Daily News. He was found to have no drugs in his system and was charged with causing damage, something he readily admitted. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-24 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Daily News Thai Caption: Loud screams! Daily News reported that a crocodile trainer was bitten on the right hand in full view of startled tourists at a show in Beung Boraphet, Muang district of Nakhon Sawan, northern Thailand yesterday afternoon. It was the last show of the day and two crocs called Fak Thong and Cola were the stars. Picture: Daily News Experienced trainer Sumeth, 51, was just concluding the show with a "superman" move when Cola decided enough was enough. The trainer was bitten on the right hand drawing blood and shrieks from the many tourists and children in attendance. The trainer's experience meant he was able to get away without further injury but he still required ten stitches in a wound that will cost 30,000 baht to put right. It was not Sumeth's first brush with croc trouble - six years ago one broke his arm. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-24 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Cannabis flowers become controlled herb - smoking rooms hit but little else changes Picture: Thai Rath An official announcement was, as expected, made yesterday in the Government Gazette effective immediately in the ongoing marijuana debate. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1278715-cannabis-flowers-become-controlled-herb-smoking-rooms-hit-but-little-else-changes/ -
Picture: Thai Rath An official announcement was, as expected, made yesterday in the Government Gazette effective immediately in the ongoing marijuana debate. Cannabis flowers have now been declared the controlled herb part of the plant, reported Thai Rath. Previously on June 16th it was the whole plant but following a free for all a compromise has been reached until the Cannabis Act comes into law next year. Now the flowers that contain the most THC and are responsible for the pungent aroma on Thai streets in many areas are the controlled herb part. And a few extra control measures have been thrown into the mix; mostly measures that will change nothing. Flowers or buds cannot be sold to people under 20, students and undergraduates, as well as pregnant women. They also cannot be sold in vending machines, according to the order. Also advertising curbs are in place. Picture: Thai Rath This was all expected and represents little change in how weed is sold and distributed in Thailand. One change that may make a difference to how recreational users are behaving is that the gazette order now restricts the consumption of cannabis products on the premises unless it is for medical purposes. This means that cafes connected to shops selling weed will have to stop allowing people to smoke or vape it on the premises. But for advocates of the legalization of marijuana - and many protested at government house yesterday against making the drug illegal again - there really is little change in this announcement. Flowers will continue to be sold to consumers aged over 20 to be consumed responsibly elsewhere not causing annoyance to others. De facto recreational use of marijuana continues in Thailand as before. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-24 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
