"On a thieving rampage" Tourists to Krabi were warned about offering food to monkeys at Wat Seua in Krabi's Muang district. This only attracts the pests who turn to the shops in the temple grounds when the monkeys don't get fed. The temple staff and trader Kannika, 48, are taking some frontline action to stop the monkeys. Picture: 77kaoded They are putting up the very spiky bark of the Rakam tree. It was explained in the 77kaoded story that the monkeys would be deterred as they "don't like it up 'em". -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-23 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Picture: Thai Rath A court has freed a well known Thai man and CEO of a company that organizes K-Pop events. Aphidit "Em" Intulaksana denied charges of rape at a resort in the Nakniwat Road in downtown Bangkok back in August. Bail was denied earlier. But yesterday the court said he could be released after a bank book with one million baht was deposited at the court by the family lawyer. The suspect was released on bail on the condition that he does not tamper with witnesses or potential evidence. If he goes abroad he has to obtain the permission of the court first. At 9.15 pm last night the suspect walked out of jail to a change in clothes from waiting relatives. He gave no press interview to Thai Rath reporters before hurrying away. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-23 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Sanook Thai Caption: OTT bro! A video on Facebook under the name of Sirajarat Pongsiri attracted the attention of Thai media Sanook as Thai netizenry shared aplenty. It involved a man on the Muang Loei to Dan Sai Road who had parked his Mitsubishi pick-up and got out to prepare and smoke a bong. Ban Siaw kamnan (a local official) said it happened at KM marker 11 on Monday. The man, aged about 48 and apparently from Suphanburi, had parked and sat down with a plastic chopping board, some weed, a knife and a bong to enjoy himself. But it was annoying to passersby so reports came in. Picture: Sanook Muang Loei police told the man that he could not smoke there. They took him to the local booth where he loosened his pants and urinated outside in an area where he shouldn't. Then while seated at an interrogation table the clearly very drunk or high individual put his week on the table in a mock "wai" gesture to officers. He was charged with causing a public disturbance and the relatives were asked to come and pick him up. Nowhere in the Sanook story was police action for DUI via alcohol or drugs mentioned, notes ASEAN NOW. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-23 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Daily News suggested that a 2 m 46 second TikTok video doing the rounds was like scenes from the movies. The video that is accompanied by hypnotic music is worth viewing from start to finish without knowing what happened. Spoiler alert warning: The chase was by two RTP patrolmen on bikes and a drug suspect fleeing. They all pull off some dangerous motorcycle moves. The suspect's final mistake was after a risky move around a bend. He came off into an approaching vehicle and was lucky not to be killed. In the final frame of the video one of the cops is taking the suspect into custody some distance from the collision. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-23 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. SPONSORED BY by Rooster | ASEAN NOW Gotcha! Shocks are great but Messi is unlikely to be tossed in the gulag! Highlight of Tuesday's play in the 2022 FIFA World Cup was the sensational victory of Saudi Arabia over pre-tournament second favorites Argentina. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1278614-gotcha-shocks-are-great-but-messi-is-unlikely-to-be-tossed-in-the-gulag/ -
SPONSORED BY by Rooster | ASEAN NOW Highlight of Tuesday's play in the 2022 FIFA World Cup was the sensational victory of Saudi Arabia over pre-tournament second favorites Argentina. I recalled some disgraceful Sun headline from my past in the Falklands Conflict - "Gothcha!" But the Saudis did get them on this occasion. Based on the number of chances they created, their difficulty and the likelihood of their scoring they should have got one or no goals in this contest. By contrast Argentina's battering of the Saudi goal - albeit a lot in strange over the top play while trying to stay onside - meant that on another day they would have scored six. Argentina were very unlucky but most traditional punditry - that Rooster decries - suggests that the Saudis deserved their win. They didn't. But never mind they got it so fair play to them. Shocks are great for any sporting event and I was recalling at Italia '90 when the Argentinians were humbled by Cameroon 1-0. As World Cup shocks go England losing by the same scoreline to the USA in 1950 has always been right up there. But perhaps the finest story of a shock - followed by an amazing mystery - is one from the appearances of North Korea at the 1966 finals in England. The Koreans were based in Middlesbrough where the local folk took the Asian team under their wings despite a first game loss to the USSR. In the third group game they had to beat tournament heavyweights Italy to progress and stunned the world with a 1-0 win. Incredibly in the next knockout match against Eusebio's Portugal they led 3-0 at Everton's Goodison ground. Before Eusebio netted 4 times and the Koreans were out 3-5. Kim Il-sung had promised much when the team left especially if they got a win or two. But rumors circulated about the comrades having a little too much England based hanky-panky after the Italy win. Though details are hard to come by it is thought the great majority of the team ended up with twenty year stretches in the gulag for such bourgeois shenanigans. (I'd recommending Googling about this story if you don't know it). It is unlikely that Messi will end up in an Argentinian gulag any time soon. He slotted the opening penalty away brilliantly and was a threat thoughout. Argentina will most likely win against Mexico and Poland but the pressure is on. A draw in either match could make things interesting. Mexico and Poland played out a 0-0 draw with Lewandowski missing a penalty. I'd gone to sleep after the Denmark and Tunisia 0-0 draw that was quite entertaining. The alarm woke me at 1.55 am for Australia againgst the French but just before bed I'd read about how one sided that encounter was likely to be so went back to the Land of Nod despite feeling like a footy lightweight. So it proved as the Aussies were put firmly in their place as they often are when it really matters. A thumping 4-1 win was the final score with Giroud equalling the French national scoring record with a brace. Today in Thailand the 5-8-11-2am schedule continues. This will carry on until the final games of the group stage when double headers at 10pm and 2 am will become the norm. This 10pm/2am lark continues until the end of the tournament. Today's schedule for fans in Thailand is as follows: Group F: Morocco vs Croatia at 5pm. Group E: Germany vs Japan at 8pm. Group E: Spain vs Costa Rica at 11pm. Group F: Belgium vs Canada at 2am. Highlight is the meeting of Germany and Japan at a great time for Thai viewers. Germany often go into tournaments with people saying this is not the team of old, then they win 4-1 and everyone says they are going to be crowned winners again. Despite being English and indoctrinated in anti-German propaganda since birth I actually like them a lot, even if they don't have a word for "fluffy" However, I have an even softer spot for the Japanese having taught them Englsih for eight years in Bangkok. It'll still be 4-1 though.... Belgium should also easily see off Canada in the late game. Unless we are due yet another World Cup shock. Meanwhile in other World Cup snippets gleaned by Rooster in the last few hours it was reported that Saudi's King Salman had declared today a public holiday. All beheadings are believed to have been put "on hold". In the UK official viewing figures suggested that 9.4 million watched the Wales game on regular TVs while 7.4 million watched England. Much of this discrepancy can be put down to timings with Wales at evening primetime and England in the workday afternoon. But there comes the lie. The official figures were for TV and didn't include people watching at work on phones via iPlayer. Good to see the Brits still skiving off work with the best of them. Then came news that Harry Kane is having a scan today. Cue Rooster to ask Mrs R for some garlands to place on the shrine over the bed. You can't be too careful. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-23

Chinese woman held after compatriot who stole her Russian husband is brutally murdered Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath reported on a love triangle including blackmail that played out on We Chat and in real life in downtown Bangkok. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1278605-chinese-woman-held-after-compatriot-who-stole-her-russian-husband-is-brutally-murdered/ -
Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath reported on a love triangle including blackmail that played out on We Chat and in real life in downtown Bangkok. The result was a 24 year old Chinese woman being found murdered in a shopping center toilets and a compatriot on a murder charge. Thung Song Hong police went to Urban Square shopping center in Prachacheun Soi 12, Laksi district, where they found Ms Xiong Ziyi dead from 29 stab wounds. She was an international business student at Dhurakij Bhandit university and was on overstay in Thailand. The assailant was there at the scene to surrender. She is Ms Tang Jan, 36, an online trader who is also on overstay after arriving in Thailand on a tourist visa. She gave evidence that a while back she employed Ms Xiong as an interpreter between herself and her Russian husband. They had all met on the app popular with Chinese, We Chat. After some time it became apparent that the interpreter had formed a relationship with the Russian. Pictures of the pair together circulated. Tang ordered her rival to stop seeing her husband and telling the world about it. Picture: Thai Rath The reply was not what she wanted to hear. She would not only continue but would put clips and stills of Tang naked on We Chat unless she paid her blackmail demands. Tang assumed she had got such material from her husband. (The Thai Rath story was short on details about this man's involvement in the story, notes ASEAN NOW). Ultimately the pair decided to meet in a restaurant at Urban Square but it only made matters worse. When the younger woman stormed off Tang went after her with a knife she'd brought and stabbed her once. The victim staggered into the toilets where Tang frenziedly attacked her multiple times until she was dead. She was charged with premeditated murder, weapons offences and overstay and detained by the Thung Song Hong police. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-23 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Cannabis flower trade to be reined in - but no chance for marijuana to go back on narcotics list Picture: INN Deputy prime minister Wissanu Krea-ngam spoke to the press yesterday after presiding over a meeting with heads of the Narcotics Control Board. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1278597-cannabis-flower-trade-to-be-reined-in-but-no-chance-for-marijuana-to-go-back-on-narcotics-list/ -
Picture: INN Deputy prime minister Wissanu Krea-ngam spoke to the press yesterday after presiding over a meeting with heads of the Narcotics Control Board. Wissanu said that the issue of marijuana being put back on the Class 5 narcotics list wasn't even discussed. Such a matter is not their brief and it was clear this is not going to happen. What is going to happen is that after an official announcement today in the Government Gazette the issue of what to do about marijuana flowers is being addressed, reported INN. New rules will mean that this part of the plant that contains by far the major amount of THF will be considered a controlled herb. From Thursday buds will be controlled herbs. What this means for the recreational marijuana industry in Thailand remains to be seen. Such an industry undoubtedly already exists. Wissanu was swift to point out that the trade in the flowers was something of a loophole that the Cannabis Act next year would address but needs to be tackled now. He stresses that other parts of the marijuana plant like roots, leaves and stems are all 0.2% THC or less so can be grown freely. File photo: Wikipedia He said that the meeting with the NCB was held after new rules were proposed by the MoPH in relation to the flowers being declared a controlled herb. The meeting lasted 3 hours. ASEAN NOW notes that the latest moves can be seen as making life more awkward for people wishing to trade in marijuana flowers. Some have seen this as overt acceptance on the streets of recreational use of marijuana, something politicians were keen to keep under wraps. Until the genie came out of the bottle on June 9th. The rampant sale of flowers on the streets that has grown ever more prevalent since decriminalization in June has forced the hand of politicians. However it is unlikely to change much and might be seen more as a typical Thai process of compromise on a thorny issue. A kind of washing of dirty laundry in public until you come up with a nice clean pair of Thai made socks. Critics have said that Thailand's marijuana policy was ill thought through which has resulted in these interim teething issues. A lot is at stake. Big players whose interests will be protected have invested fortunes while many have invested in smaller scale start-ups such as shops and will want to continue trading in flowers to maximise profits. Further clarity will come with the Cannabis Act due next year though that is unlikely to have many surprises. Cannabis is set to stay legal and available in Thailand - though watch this space as to what you can and can't do with weed. And watch out for how the RTP interpret the law. The two have been shown to be divergent in the past. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-23 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. By Erich Parpart Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha still believes that he can win the next general election despite the ongoing turmoil within the ruling coalition and that he wants to be in the premier seat until 2025, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said. “He does not care if the people are suffering and he does not care if the economy is staggering, he does not care, he wants to stay,” the self-exiled Thaksin said in his bi-weekly talk on Clubhouse. “He already arranged the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) summit like me, so he want to stay for the full term like me as well,” he said. “The only case where he will not stay for the full term is the case where he can see that he will be able to come back for another 2 years,” he added.
