On Monday, the secretary to the Minister of Justice, Somsak Thepsutin, Lieutenant Thanakrit Jitareerat, received the former politician and underworld figure Mr Chuvit Kamolvisit at the Ministry of Justice in Bangkok. by Carla Boonkong & Pranee O' Connor The former candidate for Governor of Bangkok, underworld figure and massage parlour boss has emerged as an unlikely campaigner against huge flows of corrupt money flowing into Thailand. It is understood that Chuvit Kamolvisit has already supplied the Royal Thai Police with valuable and useful information which has led to a high-profile task force launching a huge crackdown and widening probe which is now pursuing Thai nationals who acted as nominees and facilitators for the drug trafficking gangs. Former massage parlour and underworld boss Chuvit Kamolvisit has ramped up his campaign to draw attention to disturbing and rampant activity linked to wealthy Chinese drug trafficking billionaires who have been channelling illicit funds into assets and illegal business activities in Thailand. This week, Mr Chuvit is due in parliament to pass on information to a key committee investigating the matter while, on Monday, he petitioned the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and the Minister of Justice, Mr Somsak Thepsutin, at a meeting with officials at the ministry in Bangkok. Over the weekend, Mr Chuvit, a former Bangkok-based politician, claimed that an executive jet owned by the biggest Chinese drug traffic kingpin was currently being maintained at a Thai aviation centre in the South while he also claimed the powerful and wealthy mafia figure, according to his information, may still be in Thailand and hidden by associates. COVID infections expected to increase during cold season, but reduce in February COVID-19 infections are expected to rise with the arrival of cold season, as more group activities are held and more people travel, but the infection rate will drop in February as the dry season begins, according to Dr. Yong Poovorawan, chief of the Centre of Excellence in Clinical Virology at the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University. He said, however, that the infection rate will not be as high as during the rainy season, adding that most cases will not be serious either, as the majority of the people have developed a level of immunity, except for people suffering from chronic kidney disease and the so-called “608” group, which includes those over 60, and those suffering from underlying diseases. In his Facebook post today (Monday), Dr. Yong said there is no evidence to indicate that the latest mutations of the COVID-19 virus have increased the severity of symptoms, but they can cause reinfection. 16. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. Photo: Sanook.com By Thai Newsroom Reporters PRIME MINISTER PRAYUT Chan-o-cha may opt to run for head of government under the banners of the brand-new Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party in lieu of the ruling Palang Pracharath Party for the next general election, according to a noted academic. Burapa University political scientist Olarn Thinbangteo forecast today (Nov.21) Prayut would finally choose the Ruam Thai Sang Chart rather than the Palang Pracharath in spite of “fraternal” relationships which he has continually fostered with Palang Pracharath boss-cum-Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan. Prayut who has literally kept his distance from the rank and file of Prawit’s party could possibly secure sizeable votes of support from among constituents nationwide only if he joined the Ruam Thai Sang Chart headed by former Democrat MP Pirapan Salirathawipak, the Burapa academic commented. The coup leader-turned-premier who has earlier made it public that he had intended to prolong his rule for two more years provided by law after the next general election has so far declined to make comments about his own political future, saying it would be decided upon after the Apec meetings hosted by Thailand have ended.
