  2. Naew Na Thai Caption: Hunt for croc - after two meter long beast seen on road Naew Na reported from Uthai Thani province in the north of Thailand where a large crocodile is freaking out the locals. Late on Saturday night people travelling about on the Uthai to Krokphra Road at 11 pm had seen a two meter long crocodile wandering about. Picture: Naew Na It appeared to have gone to ground in a klong but many people were mobilized by the Muang district chief yesterday to find the crocodile. Picture: Naew Na Some had high powered weapons. Exactly what species of crocodile this was and where it comes from is unsure, but it is scaring the locals in a housing estate. Picture: Naew Na Loudspeaker messages were going out to residents who were also told on an estate Line group to report any sightings as the hunt gained intensity yesterday. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-21 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 8. Daily News Thai Caption: The Japanese are perplexed! Daily News reported that comment was rife online between Japanese and Thai Twitter users after a teacher tweeted about Thai kids not eating much veg. It was suggested that parents in Thailand don't educate their children about the goodness in vegetables. In fact they let them do as they please, unlike the rearing of Japanese children. The Japanese wondered why Thais weren't constipated all the time. Though it was noted that most Thais have great figures and some of the loveliest fruit on the planet. Maybe they get their veggies in smoothies, some netizens posted. Thais meanwhile responded mostly that the way veg is cooked in Thailand is not as delicious as the way it's done in Japan. Others said their get their five a day from eating SomTam (Papaya Salad a ubiquitous food in Thailand). It all seemed like good natured viral ribaldry, notes ASEAN NOW. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-21 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 10. Daily News Thai Caption: Waiting for confirmation! A father and his son are under interrogation after an old lady was found in an old freezer for storing chicken. She had her mouth duct taped. But apart from this there were no other suspicious circumstances, reported Daily News. It is now up to investigators to ascertain whether it was murder or not. The body was found by Akharaphon, 33. She is 58 year old Janthira Kaewpongpok, his mother. She had been suffering from mental illness. The freezer was no longer in use for storing chicken and the plug was not in. It was in a house in Moo 3 of Wat Bot sub-district of Wat Bot district of Phitsanulok, northern Thailand. She had been missing for four days before she was found on Saturday. The son said his mum was beset with financial worries from regular loans and loan sharks. She had left a note in her own handwriting saying she wanted to end it all. Though relatives are in two minds as to what happened to her. Yesterday the Wat Bot police said they invited Akharaphon and Theerayuth, 57, the deceased's husband in for questioning. There seemed nothing irregular in their stories. Police were also interviewing neighbors. It happened in an area of high population density, where everyone knows each other's business. The victim often went missing in the past leading to missing persons reports to police though none were made this time. She often left on her bicycle. Police said they had been pro-active taking DNA from family members. But for now they are waiting on autopsy results to see what injuries there were on the body, if any. These were initially hard to determine due to the level of decomposition that had already occurred. Autopsy results are due today. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-21 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 18. INN Thai Rath published pixelated footage of a Thai gangster in Nakhon Sri Thammarat, southern Thailand, shooting his wife dead outside a friend's house. Anon or "Mack Thung Jeen" Suthikan, 30, had taken three women to his friend's house where he had been staying for a month since arguing with his wife. Jaranya "Fah" Yothakun, his wife, found about this and started swearing at him after arriving on a motorcycle early yesterday morning in Soi Pepe. Anon fired a warning shot from a 9mm gun after Fah started doing live filming. Then according to Tang, 30, the friend, he pistol whipped his wife and the gun went off. Muang district police found the victim shot in the head and evidence of two shots having been fired. Anon fled with the women in a Vios and a warrant is now out for his arrest. Thai Rath noted that he is a local gangster who is the younger brother of Santi Suthikan, 36, a drug dealer, who was shot dead by police on July 6th this year. INN had still photography apparently taken from the video of the incident. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-21 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 19. Qataris go home at half time as hosts made to look like amateurs by Ecuador journeymen Welcome to ASEAN NOW's daily World Cup blog presented by our columnist Rooster. 20. SPONSORED BY by Rooster Welcome to ASEAN NOW's daily World Cup blog presented by our columnist Rooster. The blog will contain all the latest news from Qatar 2022 in Rooster's inimitable fashion, all with a Thai perspective. So the hype was finally over last last night with the kick-off of the Qatar 2022 World Cup that will see 64 games over the next four weeks. Thai and expatriate fans in the kingdom were predictably left waiting to the last minute until several large corporations stepped in to show the matches for free on Thai TV. True also put the matches on their channels for the first time after coughing up 200 million baht in a cut price deal. Dual language options are available by pressing buttons on your remote. The opening ceremony at the Al- Bayt stadium - fabulously lit in a Bedouin style tent style in the middle of a lonely desert - featured Hollywood star Morgan Freeman narrating about football's ability to unite as local singing stars and BTS's Jung Kook sang Dreamers, the tournament song. Qatari singer Dana al-Fardan performed, though she was swathed in Arab clothing and masks from head to foot. She was next to YouTuber Ghanim Al-Muftah who has a rare disease called Caudal Regression Syndrome meaning he only came up to the lady's knees. There was a big cheer when the Emir arrived and took his seat next to FIFA boss Gianni Infantino who appeared to understand Tamin bin Hamad Al Thani's Arabic. He was flanked by Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud. That's MBS who the CIA say murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi. No one mentioned LGBTQ+ rights, migrant workers or the fact that supporters are having to pay 8,000 baht a night to stay in shipping containers in the desert. That's the "budget" option. Applause for the Emir and the rogues' gallery surrounding him had barely subsided when hosts Qatar and Ecuador took to the turf for the opening match in Group A. Within seconds they were seemingly behind from Enner Valencia's header but a teammate's toe was offside leading to the goal being disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee much to the bemusement of most people watching on TV. But the relief for the hosts was shortlived as Valencia scored a penalty - with the Qatar keeper very lucky to stay on the pitch - and added a superb header to make it 0-2 at half-time. Ecuador - filled with journeymen who are or were on the peripheries of English Premier league teams at best - barely needed to get out of second gear. That was the cue for thousands of Qataris to quit the desert and head back to town. They didn't miss much in the second half - Ecuador played out the game for an extremely easy win. Despite Qatar being Asian champions and having several players with 100 games under their belts the hosts looked like a team out of the third or fourth tiers of English football. And that's being a bit disrespectful to Leagues 1 and 2! Ecuador ran rings around Qatar with the hosts committing foul after needless foul like park footballers. They'd been preparing for six months but the hosts were completely hapless. When the referee brought the torture to an end it was the Ecuador supporters cheering and the rest of the world wondering why such a poor game of football should kick off such a major event. Qatar didn't have a single shot on target. Now with games against Senegal on Friday and the Netherlands on November 29th coming up, it will be a miracle if Qatar are not eliminated in the group stage becoming only the second hosts after South Africa to suffer that ignominy. Today's action in Group A features Senegal vs Netherlands at 11 pm Thai time. Before that England take on Iran at 8pm and later tonight (2 am Tuesday) the USA meet Wales in the other Group B clash. England will be hoping that talisman and Russia 2018 Golden Boot winner Harry Kane can "fill his boots" but manager Gareth Southgate still has great holes in his defence after a dismal run of form. For the first time in several international tournaments England's supporters are toning down the "It's coming home" rhetoric for a more balanced "semi finals maybe" or "quarters at best" stance. Wales will be hoping that Gareth Bale - now looking past his sell-by date - can muster up some magic to match his country's last run in the tournament in Sweden in 1958 when they made the last eight losing to eventual winners Brazil. Predictably in Thailand the first World Cup story was about crackdowns on gambling by the RTP - Thais will be wagering 50 billion baht according to some reports. As a guide to the likely chances of teams here are the latest odds from Betfair (an exchange where weight of money decides odds) with a caveat that betting on football in Thailand is illegal. Brazil are currently 100-30 favorites with Argentina at about 6-1, France 9-1, Spain and England at a little over 10-1. Germany and the Netherlands are 12-1 and 13-1 respectively. Rooster is going for the Netherlands to finally come good at a World Cup after many failures in the past - most notably Argentina in 1978 - when they should have won. They have good recent form and may be able to gain in confidence and surprise Neymar and Messi and lift the famous trophy come the World Cup final on Sunday December 18th (early hours of the morning next day Thai time). -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-21

Long jail terms promised as RTP chief does PM's bidding going after World Cup gamblers in Thailand The World Cup - that kicked off last night at 11 pm Thai time - followed predictable two-faced territory yesterday when it came to gambling. 22. The World Cup - that kicked off last night at 11 pm Thai time - followed predictable two-faced territory yesterday when it came to gambling. As Thais prepared to wager billions of baht on the 64 matches the RTP chief warned them of long jail terms for adding to the fun with a flutter. General Damrongsak Kittipraphat - the Royal Thai Police commander - said a tech cop command center had been set up to deal with the problem of gambling. This is at the behest of Thai PM Prayuth Chan-ocha who is particularly concerned for young people who might be lured into betting, reported Thai Rath. So he had instructed his tech cop deputy chief Pol Gen Torsak Sukhwimon to take action. Three numbers were announced so that Thais could report each other - call 1441, 191, or 1599 24/7 if you spot gambling. Damrongsak - Big Den in the media - mentioned 1-10 year jail terms and fines of up to 100,000 baht for people with online operations exceeding 5 million baht in turnover. But individual gamblers will not be immune from prosecution - everyone is fair game in gambling mad Thailand where such activity is illegal. Meanwhile ASEAN NOW checked out the official FIFA app for Qatar 2022 for phones. In the "where to watch in...." section Thailand had been left out completely. But at least people in Thailand will be able to watch the 29 day extravaganza on free to air and subscription TV (True) after several corporations stepped in to get a last minute cut-price deal. After all, a flutter on the matches is so much more fun when you can get to watch the game...... -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-21 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 24. Opinion – by Ken Mathis Lohatepanont When Chinese President Xi Jinping stepped down from the plane that carried him from Bali to Bangkok for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, he was greeted by 2014 coup leader and current Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, and while Xi was mounting his aircraft back home, he was also sent off by Prayut. In between, Xi had a busy schedule. He had a plenty of facetime with Prayut, with the prime minister on several occasions visibly bowing to the president. The pair had a bilateral meeting, where Xi hailed ties between China and Thailand as being “as close as one family.” Later, at a banquet hosted in their honor, Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan were serenaded by Chinese music liked by Peng, while the Thai hosts presented her with a birthday cake. For a pair whose private life is almost unknown, this was a rare personal moment in the public eye. It was red carpet treatment, befitting the most important guest at APEC. Xi was in command of the show. Yes, some other leaders were also lavished with attention. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s guest appearance at APEC was particularly important to Prayut, for whom the restoration of ties with Saudi Arabia represents a key foreign policy achievement.
