Picture: Siam Rath An inquiry was instigated after a clip on Line was shared. It featured a senior officer from the number 43 force of the border patrol police in Songkhla, southern Thailand, holding a junior officer's head to the ground in a restaurant. The junior officer had his hands pinned behind his back, reported Siam Rath. Social media users thought this was police brutality, albeit against one of their own. Border Patrol #43 chief Pol Col Yongsak Ratandilok na Phuket responded by saying that his officer was drunk and boasted about it on Line. Later it emerged from the wider inquiry that the incident occurred during a dinner in a private room out of view of the public. There were senior and junior drugs suppression police present. One junior officer had talked about his ambitions for promotion and was giving it the large one about his physical prowess. The older members of the gathering who had been through it all before suggested this and that but the younger officer persisted with his wrongful claims about how to do things like detain suspects. He was then shown how. It was all a misunderstanding on behalf of the public. Though the officer concerned has been warned about his behavior and social media activity. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-14 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. City officials used expandable, water-filled flood barriers, instead of sand bags, in an attempt to prevent overflows from the Chao Phraya River from flooding Rama III Road in Yan Nawa District yesterday (Thursday). Apart from overflows during high tides, water has been leaking out of a sink hole and through many fissures at a condominium construction site on Rama III Road, said officials. Deputy Bangkok Governor Wisanu Subsompon and officials of the Department of Drainage and Sewerage of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration inspected the scene yesterday and ordered more sand bags to prevent water from flowing from these fissures and the sink hole. Picture: Thai Rath Thailand's rescue services who work in tandem with the police and other medical services are a ubiquitous sight in the kingdom. Though sometimes maligned for rushing to the scene of accidents to beat other organisations, there is no doubt that these organizations provide a valuable service to the public. Yesterday a distraught mother in Pluak Daeng, Rayong, had rescue services to thank for helping her son who had got his foot stuck in a broken drain cover, reported Thai Rath. The family had been out last night at the annual "Buffalo Races" (wing khwai) and were walking in front of Orawin School. It was dark and there were lots of motorbikes parked and 5 year old Tharit got stuck. Picture: Thai Rath When Pluak Daeng rescue arrived Tharit was bawling his eyes out and his mum was cuddling the little soul to comfort him. Taking the matter in hand the rescue team first tried cooking oil as lubrication pouring it down teary Tharit's leg. This was unsuccessful however as he was well and truly wedged in. So the rescue team resorted to cutting equipment after the plate was removed and slowly but surely they managed to pry it open so that Tharit could be released. He was given first aid and taken to hospital for a checkup. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-14 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. by Tanakorn Sangiam BANGKOK (NNT) - The Prime Minister told the Board of Investment (BOI) in a meeting that his administration had plans to upgrade small businesses. The plans call for the continuous development of the grassroots economy. At the BOI meeting, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha acknowledged suggestions made by the board and admired its effort to help strengthen smaller businesses. One particular example of the effort is the sandbox model. This model provides a level playing field for SMEs, community enterprises, and startups to compete, while the government acts as a supporter. The Prime Minister asked the BOI to come up with an approach to attract capable businesses to Thailand, and look for ways to enhance the country’s competitiveness. Also, Gen Prayut said the BOI should focus on investments in the East-West Economic Corridor, in addition to the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), because the former caters more to small and medium-sized firms and the grassroots economy. He urged the board to roll out promotion packages to boost the Southern Economic Corridor in a way that uplifts local communities. Woman rescued from southern "sex maniac" - one is dead, but are there more victims? Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath reported on the continuing developments in an alarming murder/torture case that may reach further than two victims. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1274729-woman-rescued-from-southern-sex-maniac-one-is-dead-but-are-there-more-victims/ -
Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath reported on the continuing developments in an alarming murder/torture case that may reach further than two victims. Yesterday police in Phatthalung went to an apartment in Muang district where they arrested Thanadech "Rut" Kaewchuang, 27, on a murder/torture charge. Police managed to rescue a 31 year old woman at the scene who was given the name "Noei". She was horrifically beaten with multiple broken bones and bruising. Dr Jarung Bunyakan at Phatthalung Hospital said that these were injuries consistent with kicking, punching and crushing. Noei had nine broken ribs, a broken nose and three broken bones in the small of the back. Had the ribs pierced her lungs she would have died. Relatives have been contacted but Noei, who hails from Lamphun, will require in-patient treatment for at least a month. Doctors have advised her not to attempt to walk. She was lucid and awake and able to tell reporters how she met her tormentor on Facebook. "I liked to collect friends, and it led to this," she lamented. She told how her boyfriend would go out to get food for her. He would work in the day selling himself to other men. He was the dominant partner. Then he would send sexually explicit pictures he made to his customers who would pay an extra 100-200 baht a time. He did drugs and liked playing "slots" when he was high. The apartment owner said there was never any perceptible noise coming from the flat. Though she admitted it was the end one on the third floor away from other rooms. She expressed her shock at the arrest and the pitiful sight of the victim who she had met when she came to stay earlier. A restaurant owner where Thanadech would always go to order food for Noei and stop and eat himself said that he liked to eat pork. But she related that while he was in the restaurant he would talk on his phone to other girlfriends arranging to meet them or flirting. She called him a funny, normal guy but in the light of his arrest and her perception of his behavior he appeared to be a sex maniac and she was in no doubt there must be more victims. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-14 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. German Airline Lufthansa Bans Apple AirTags On Flights German airline Lufthansa has asked passengers to turn off their Apple AirTag tracking devices before boarding flights. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1274727-german-airline-lufthansa-bans-apple-airtags-on-flights/ -
German airline Lufthansa has asked passengers to turn off their Apple AirTag tracking devices before boarding flights. The airline clarified the move was due to the AirTags being 'active devices' which makes them 'dangerous goods' under the carrier's rules. They considered the devices to be similar to laptops and phones, however, unlike other devices, the AirTags cannot be 'switched off'. "Baggage trackers belong to the category of portable electronic devices and are therefore subject to the dangerous goods regulations for carriage in airplanes issued by the International Civil Aviation Organisation," a spokesperson said. "Accordingly, due to their transmission function, the trackers must be used similarly to cell phones, laptops, tablets, etc., during the flight if they are in checked baggage."
