video screenshot Thailand's tourism chief says the coronavirus pandemic there is over. The country fully reopened to foreign visitors this month. The Southeast Asian nation especially wants to boost arrivals from India. Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Yuthasak Supasorn told NHK that he would go to New Delhi to organize events aimed at bringing more Indian travelers to Thailand. He said Indian tourists are now one of the largest inbound groups, and he hopes a million of them will visit Thailand this year. Chinese tourists used to account for more than one in four arrivals. But they haven't yet returned while Beijing continues its zero-COVID restrictions. The governor expects to see them back in Thailand during the Lunar New Year holidays starting from late January. For now, he is eyeing another demographic with similar travel habits: young Japanese women into wellbeing, golf, and diving. By Online Reporter With the FIFA World Cup 2022 set to kick off in Qatar in a little over one month, football fans in Thailand may be beginning to wonder how they will be able to watch the games. To date, no company in Thailand has secured the rights to broadcast matches from the tournament, which will be held from November 21 to December 18. However, in a move that will reassure fans, the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) has said that it will purchase the licensing rights if private broadcasters fail to do so in order to ensure that football fans in Thailand can watch the games. “Thais must be able to watch the World Club live for free under the ‘must-have’ rule. If no private operators are interested in purchasing the licence, the SAT will buy it,” SAT governor Kongsak Yodmanee has said. Prayut was advised by his entourage to skip a spot on his scheduled trip to visit villagers affected by flooding in the province’s capital district on the banks of Chao Phraya River where the anti-Prayut demonstrators had reportedly prepared bags of fermented fish sauce, red dye and other stenching liquids to hurl at him. The premier proceeded to an inundated community in Pakkred district and cancelled his planned visit to the flooded spot where the anti-Prayut protesters, led by political activist Shinawat Chankrachang, had reportedly waited for him. Thailand abstained during the UN vote to condemn Russia’s annexation of four regions of Ukraine because it believes that such condemnation, when the situation in Ukraine is escalating, will reduce the chances of resolving the conflict through diplomatic means, according to an explanation issued by Thailand’s Foreign Ministry (Thursday). Thailand is, however, strongly opposed to intimidation or the use of force by one state against the territorial sovereignty of another and to the use of force to annex territory of another state without provocation, said the Thai Foreign Ministry. The United Nations General Assembly voted overwhelmingly yesterday to condemn Russia’s attempts to annex regions in Ukraine. The resolution was supported by 143 countries, while 35 states, including Thailand, China and India, abstained. In addition to Russia, four countries rejected the vote, namely Belarus, North Korea, Syria and Nicaragua. Picture: Thai Rath Park and military authorities in the Pong Nam Ron area of Chanthaburi on Thailand's eastern seaboard responded to reports of a dead wild elephant. They found the about 40 year old creature decaying, reported Thai Rath. It had fallen on wires that had held a live current. Electrocution was assumed. The lines were traced to the house of the owner of an orchard, a man named Chokechai Buathara. He admitted electrifying the wire but said the current used was only that used by farms. He will face charges that amount to hunting wild restricted animals without permission. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-13 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
