Paul Henstock, 54, was hoping for the holiday of his dreams (Image: Paul Henstock) He saved hard for this holiday - but now he struggled to get back home A Nottingham man has been left "trapped" in Thailand after his return ticket was cancelled two weeks before the flight. Paul Henstock, a taxi driver from Mapperley Park, was hoping to have the holiday of his dreams in Bangkok. But his dream holiday was ruined by a message he received on Wednesday (August 31), telling him that his flight back home was cancelled. The 54 year old, said he "woke up" to the news, and has immediately called the lastminute.com agency to arrange to get on another flight. He flew from the Gatwick Airport to Thailand on July 5, and was due to return home on September 11 on a flight provided by the Singaporean low-cost airline Scoot. He has spent £524.19 on his tickets purchased on lastminute.com. "I booked a ten week holiday to travel Thailand", Mr Henstock said. "I should fly home on September 11, which is just in a few days - but on Wednesday morning I woke up to a text from lastminute.com saying that my flight was cancelled." The Thai sign: 1 The start of the test - Odd numbers A Driving straight forwards and backwards Sanook reported that people wishing to renew their driving licences can continue to do so at many Department of Land Transport Centers outside normal opening hours throughout September. You can renew your licence from 8.30 - 6 pm Monday to Friday and 8.30 - 4.30 pm on Saturdays (excluding public holidays). You must register a time using the DLT Smart Queue appointment system. It was not made clear if the extended service would continue beyond this month, notes ASEAN NOW. An infographic gave details of where the public could renew headed by DLT offices 1-5 in Bangkok, provincial centers, surrounding areas of Bangkok and tourism areas. The list is: Central Region: Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Ayutthaya, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, Suphanburi, Chachoengsao, Lopburi and Saraburi. The North: Nakhon Sawan, Phitsanulok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Kamphaengphet. North East: Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Ubon, Buriram, Surin, Udon, Mahasarakham and Chaiyaphum. East: Chonburi, Rayong and Prachinburi. West (and towards south): Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Phetchaburi South: Surat Thani, Phuket, Songkhla and Nakhon Sri Thammarat. DLT chief Jirut Wisanjit announced that between 11th July and 20th August 17, 632 people in Bangkok had extended licences out of hours and 54,146 in the provinces for a grand total of 71,778. ASEAN NOW notes that much of the backlog has been caused by people not renewing their licences during the pandemic. Covid protocols remain in force at DLT offices, cautioned Sanook. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-07 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Is Gen Prawit maneuvering to become Thailand’s next PM? By Thai PBS World’s Political Desk Since his very first day as acting prime minister, Gen Prawit Wongsuwan has aroused suspicion that he intends to take the post from the current holder. By Thai PBS World’s Political Desk Since his very first day as acting prime minister, Gen Prawit Wongsuwan has aroused suspicion that he intends to take the post from the current holder. General Prayut Chan-o-cha was suspended as PM by the Constitutional Court on August 24 pending its ruling on whether his eight-year tenure has ended. For many political analysts, Prawit has proved to be a more mature and astute politician than Prayut. Prawit, they say, has done better than his junior Army ex-classmate in concealing his emotions and political ambitions. Setting sights on premiership Analysts say that the moves Prawit has made as acting prime minister indicate his sights are set on more than just a temporary role. But they see almost zero chance of him fulfilling a desire to cement his premiership in the current parliamentary term. “I think Prawit deeply wants to become prime minister but this is unlikely to happen in the current term. It may be possible after the next general election,” said Yuthaporn Issarachai, a political scientist from Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU). By Erich Parpart The big question in regard to the 8-year term limit of the currently suspended Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha seems to have at least found some solution according to an unauthenticated document that reportedly was submitted by the chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee – Meechai Ruchuphan. The documents that were circulated on social media show that Meechai, who has been the constitution drafter for many coup lead governments, thinks that the term of the 2014 coup leader started in April 2017. The 3-page document was addressed to the court and it indicated that the term should be counted from April 6, 2017, when the current junta-drafted charter came into effect.
